i like my 7.8" setup and i like and 8" and i like my 9.4" mutant egg which i shortened to 14" different boards for different things. i like playing around for flat ground with my 7.8" but when i go to the park or any quarterpipe fun ill use something 8" or my 8.25" i have all 3 sizes setup exactly the same with tensor maglights and 54mm wheels. if they made mag lights in a 6.0 or a 9" axle would be amazing for all my wide boi slappy setups that are just plain fun to try to flip, grind and to slide. biggest problem when moving up to 8" or 8.25" its hard to find in a 14" wb so they flip and spin the same as my 7.8". WB is the first thing i look for in a deck. i have a chem skate wheelbase jig tool that helps me shorten the bigger boards if they need it.

I'm still trying to figure out what bushings work best with these trucks, as I don't like stock Venture bushings and all the aftermarket ones I've bought so far are too thick for the kingpin on these trucks, so if I want to screw the kingpin nut down close to flush I'm going to have to skate super tight trucks. I hate skating trucks when the kingpin nut isn't flush with the kingpin, I think I care more about that than the actual tightness level of my trucks but I'm having a hard time with how tight these Ventures are. I think my options right now are shave down some bushings with sandpaper to get them to turn better or just buy a different set of trucks (I've been thinking about trying those magnesium Tensors recently)
[close]

For venture I've had good luck with bones medium bushings no bottom washer plus the thin top washer that comes with it or the OEM venture top washer if you want it tighter and still be flush. If you have wheel bite problems try hard bottom and soft top.

I don't know how you can ride those lol. I tried some Bones mediums no washer except for the small one that comes with the Bones bushings and if I had them screwed flush they would be really ridiculously tight. I was thinking about using the Bones mediums bottom and then sanding down the stock Venture top bushing until it's less of a tight fit

Op, you ok man? Being real here, you doin alright?

6’2” 230 lbs size 12 shoe

I’m a 37 year old big boy who spent my early ‘00s glory days on 7.75 boards.

For the past several years I’ve set up numerous 8.0-8.5 boards assuming I just needed to nut up and get used to it.

Inspired by this thread, I ordered a 7.75 r7 Enjoi Samarria deck and some tensor mag lites in the narrowest low flavor.

Just seshed at the school around the corner with the wife/dogs/kids and HOLY SHIT what a joy this thing is to kick around.

I assumed a lot of my flippy trickery was behind me, but it all feels back within reach now.

So much easier to flip and light as hell.  I’m in love.

Thanks for the safe space and inspiration my dudes

broke my 7.7 chapman (= clutch?) blank within 4 sessions :(. Are smaller boards just weaker?

had a very good time skating with indy 139 hollows and ~45mm OJ's while it lasted tho. Sucked up to my feet so good compared to my regular board 8.25 14.25wb w/thunder149. I might just make this my new main setup, except swapping out the wheels for some f4s

Heard clutch isn’t this best quality these days, but I have not ridden one so dunno.
Smaller boards do break easier.

Here's the Gino 101 deck they're reissuing.  7.5/31.7/14 WB, mellow concave.  Screen printed.  I was hoping for the gravedigger graphic but for those interested, here's a preorder link.

I 100 percent know id just end up skating this.

7.5s are kinda hard for me to skate. There I said it. I HAD to have 7.5s, just cuz. I’m not sure why. Seemed like the way, at that time. I mean shit, Lavar’s part in trilogy was the goal.

I always thought of Gino’s setup as being wide as shit, back then: he looked like he was skating 5.2 los, and like a 7.9 ish board.

Blah. Blah, just trying not to buy this.

I tinker with this Baker 7.5, but it is not as a I remember. I DID mostly use 7.625/ 7.63 though. It's weird how such a tiny size can change stuff (mostly mental? maybe?) ... but I WANT to be a 7.5 person. I feel like I'm 7.625-7.81

I'm currently procrastinating so I've got some questions about 7.75's.

Has anyone skated the DGK one? Is it really a 14.5wb? How is that?

Does anyone know of any with 14.3-14.4 wb? (Preferably 31.6-31.8 length)

I skated a DGK 7.75" (the Stevie one with the yellow Acura NSX on it), not sure of the wheelbase measurement but it skated great from my perspective. I got a good long life out of it, I think I skated it for a month and a half before it snapped (I weigh in the 180-200 lb range)

Skated last night on the g009. 5.0 lo’s. Old old 52 classics (probably 50 ish).
I pretty much only skate flatground. Slowly. If I was endowed with magical powers I’d choose to skate like Lavar in trilogy. Anyways.
Had a great time. Setup felt good, wasn’t fighting anything.

I watched Lavar's Trilogy part for some sub-8" inspiration at the park yesterday lol. Love those Jimmy Cliff songs.

I've been enjoying my 7.75" but I'm looking to try out a 7.6"-7.625" so it can fit my trucks a little better, anyone have any recommendations?

I just ordered some venture 5.0 bobby lows and I m stoked. I will probably not be able to skate them before next spring but I´m really curious on how the (not super drastic) change from 8 to 7.75 will feel like. Who knows, maybe even some fliptricks will come back ;)

As Ive been scrolling through this thread Ive come to the conclusion that the most popular choice for skinny decks according to Slap are the Venture 5.0 lows. Can someone please explain why exactly that is? What makes these better than anything else on the market?

Nostalgia.
5.0 lo’s are dope, for sure, but I don’t think they are that much better than say, thunder 145s. The venture lo, and in particular, 5.0s, were THE truck of the era. I’d guess that indy 149s over the last 10 years would be the equivalent. I mean the greatest moment in skateboard history, unequivocally, Keenan’s switch flip over the table….5.0 lo’s.
And that’s all you need to know.

I'm younger(20) so I don't have the actual nostalgia, but I definitely wanted to skate them for this reason.
I tell people I like the pop though.

The term "quick pop response" I think is good to describe Venture Lows.

I am old enough to have nostalgia for ventures but I never rode them. I looked in this thread, Googled, found some 5.0s on sale and ordered them, that’s all. I ride ace 44 at the moment but want my future 7.75 board on something smaller.
