Welcome ad in the latest thrasher. Pretty out of left field . But change is welcome on that team. Now let’s ditch neen and lizard

Color me surprised. He had a clip in Dickson's Green part right? I assume that's the connection?
-
I looooove Julian Davidson! I definitely back this! So sick!

Any way we can get a scan for proof, bud? Not callin' you a liar, but I ain't callin' you for dinner neither.

I will forget him in about 30 seconds like usual after any news or clips with him in it drops
-
This is interesting cause I never saw Julian as a Deathwish dude. Eager to see what they do with him, I always thought he was just marketed wrong or something.

Nice. Thanks for the quick response. Dinner's at 7.

I heard he's getting on Emerica as well. Always been a big fan of his.
-
who?
-
From element to deathwish? That's an NBD!
-
hell yes :o
-
What an incredibly weird addition. Why's he look so old and haggard in that ad? Dude looks like a 35 year old who spent his 20s as an addict.
-
Didn't see that coming
-
he's good, just very... california
-
dude's perfect for the healthwish turn over there. congrats to him, excited to see a little deathwish promo probably coming out later in the year.
-
Who spent more time in school, Julian or Antwuan?
-
Deathwish is the underrated riders team anyway

Since when is he of cons?
-
I like it. Nice to see people of element not be stuck in sponsorship purgatory now.
-
Glad to see him find a good landing spot. Maybe Emerica can fully put him on too.
Color me surprised. He had a clip in Dickson's Green part right? I assume that's the connection?
I'd assume he knows a bunch of people in that circle such as Neen due to living in Long Beach and being Pro for like 7 years. Plus, I'd assume he's gone on some RVCA tours with Spanky and Reynolds.
-
damn. definitely out of left field, but then again not at the same time. if deathwish could finally shed the fourlokos, vapes, and ear plugs crowd then thats a step in the right direction
semi-related, but whats the cover of the new issue? havent been able to see it yet.

what even is Deathwish anymore? Dickson, Foy, Delfino, this guy
at least Julian isn’t fat
-
Could do wonders for his career. Like Dakota Servold - had solid parts on Foundation WTF and also the Bones vid, but slid past with little attention. Now he’s on Emerica with a style change and sweet tash and he’s pretty much an A-Lister. Which I think he deserved... love his stuff.
-
From element to deathwish? That's an NBD!
Interestingly enough, Neen was on Element when he was a kid in Chicago (before going to Affiliate), so Neen also went Element to Deathwish. Just had a stop in between.
-
Will we get a deathwish version of this gem?

I agree. I still think Dakota is underrated. He or emerica posted a kick flip and it’s was beautiful. Back on topic. Deathwish has some legit rippers. Just got a couple dorks too by that I mean neen and lizard king kinda tarnish their stacked team
-
fuck yes
-
Good on him personally for finding a landing spot in todays climate. Very random for Death Wish. I wonder if we'll see more changes since Erik and Jim have left.

Very hyped on this. Big fan of his skating and he seems like a really nice guy. Can’t wait to see some footy. If it’s anything like his RVCA part, it’ll be spicy

Yeah, they don't have pro models and have mostly been skating those artsy, die-cut boards that Greco started doing a while ago. They're probably winding down to take more behind-the-scenes roles.

Neen may not be dropping hammers but he has a ton of social media followers. Which means his boards are probably selling well.

They've been pretty full on behind the scenes for years now. Jim Greco seems to have removed himself completely, while Erik recently dropped the Death Wish from his bio, and just put Baker Boys, instead. They have a new company launching soon with a team, that has been pushed back due to covid. Looking forward to it.

it would've been too confusing to have a furby and a kirby

Excited for this! His announcement for Emerica should be coming soon, too! I was just doing our Spring Pre-books for 2021 and there’s a Julian Davidson welcome ad in the middle of it. I think a part should be dropping this month for both.

Last company I would've guessed but good for him. Looking forward to a new part from him and hopefully the rest of the Deathwish dudes

Julian is a beautiful boy. Looking forward to more chances to check him out in the near future!
-
This is a huge surprise. But I'm really glad that Deathwish worked out for him. Julian is really good and deserves to be pro still.
I know he struggled really hard filming his "War and Peace" part due to injuries. But the dude has a good trick selection and style to boot. A welcomed surprise!!

Theres nothing cringeworthy about liking Lizard King or Ragdoll, if your under the age of 28-29 just know that you purely do not understand, both of them set the bar for what is gnarly in skateboarding and Ragdoll inspired an entire generation of skateboarders skate style and clothing.

28 year old here, was 13 when I first saw Slaughterhouse, qualifying all of this because it's important to say that Ragdoll and Lizard King were never anything more than subpar novelties who will be written out of skateboarding history sooner rather than later.

I mean we're still talking about them 15 years later and Lizard King is still skateboarding and still a professional. Sure, they're both kooky but they were both doing lots of original things that no one else could do or thought to do. Ragdoll was definitely gimmicky with his stuff but Lizard was actually really talented on a board.

Don't care for both, but I think they both have their place, novelty or not.
-
Setting aside the dubious claim that Lizard "started the concept of kinda dork tricks", I get why someone would not like either, but I don't understand disliking Ragdoll's skating, while still thinking LK is cool? And gap to firecrackers and board bashes specifically were tricks Ragdoll was doing in video parts, years before Lizard was known.
Ragdoll walked (or firecrackered), so Lizard King could run (or switch wallie japan or whatever).
-
Weird move for EE an JG to of themselves of Deathwish when they own and started the company, it also makes the team considerably worse. Both legends.
-
What's nice about lizard is that he usually does these dork tricks fast and on cool or big spots. And you can see it's kinda honest, it isn't like he has a huge bag of tricks and do this just for kooking, it really seems like he's doing the best he can with what he can do.

Hopefully Deathwish can market Julian better than Element.
While he obviously has talent, he just seems to be stuck as the "middle of the video" guy whose part is good but you can't recall a single trick.
Again, no knock to Julian's ability, but if the couldn't sell Furby or Moose boards, Davidson will need some really heavy tricks to stand out as his personality alone isn't gonna cut it.
I wonder how lonely Nick Garcia is these days.

The guy is now on a team with Foy, Delfino, and Jon Dickson, he's essentially signed up to be the skipped part guy. Even if somehow he got last part we all know it'd still get skipped. Foy is entertaining as he's a bigger guy who's world-class at handrails, Delfino is just :o , Dickson has that insanely crisp style, Davidson needs a decent hair cut and a personality.
I just watched a bunch of videos on Julian to try and get some perspective on him and there's literally nothing. In one video he said that riding for RVCA for so long formed him as he grew up, I can believe that.

Lizard did Not start the concept of kinda dork / unusual tricks . Someone else says it here, but Ragdoll has at least two video parts prior to Slaughterhouse with gap to firecrackers (on that LA double set Gino nollie or switch b's 180s iirc), jumping onto a board down some stairs, amongst other less than usual skateboard tricks.
Lizard was / is influenced by this style of skating and had his own selection too - 5050 FS boneless out, gap disaster on Wallenberg, scarewalks. He is not the progenitor of it, even if just comparing him to ragdoll.

feels like the boss and spanky wanted him in the room but the baker card is way too filled out by forgettable mid-video fixtures how. deathwish needed someone to fill space between delfino doing irreparable damage to his brain and foy crooking 90 handrails

I think this is a sick fit. It feels more of a genuine Baker rider. Gets dropped from his former sponsor for partying to hard. Still rips and is probably a fun guy so the baker boys pick him up.

fuck yes
really? fuck yes?
I have never gotten the appeal of Julian Davidson. I can't remember a single trick he's ever done, and I've never seen a video part of his that was in any way interesting. He doesn't do unique tricks or have a unique style, or have any sort of personality to his tricks.
Where is all this enthusiasm coming from? I've never understood any hype for the dude on here, much like Jake Donnelly. I feel like they're being hyped by people within the industry, and only by people within the industry. They're nobody's favorite skater, but if you came on SLAP you'd think they were some of the best ever.
Seriously can someone name a single trick Julian Davidson has ever done?

I think Jake Donnelly has a super sick style and his career was mostly plagued by injuries + being an insufferable douche bag, but I agree with everything else you said. There's a weird disconnect between pro skaters who gain traction on Slap as group favorites and their standing in the "real world." That Cookie dude is a good example, people were throwing his name around for SOTY last year but I've never heard his name uttered in real life.
With that being said, I'm not a fan of Julien Davidson but for whatever reason, I'm not mad about his career's second wind. He's pretty bland in every aspect, but somehow ends up on a better brand despite being close to 30 years old? I'm with it.

I think Julian Davidson has always had good style but he's never really lived up to any sort of potential he had. Hopefully since he's been sober for the last little while and he's getting new sponsors that means he's got some good new footage.

Davidson needs a decent hair cut and a personality.
:o
if you've ever been to Cherry park and have met Julian, dudeis honestly the nicest person. No cool-guy shit at all from him
Got drunk with him once at a party. We were pretty much the only skaters there. Total skate rat and super nice guy. Not a pretentious bone in his body.
Major props to him. He deserves it.
Cool story but a guy can be all of those things and be boring as fuck. Maybe the part I said about the haircut was outta line, he just strikes me as a super bland Axel Cruysberghs or something. There's a hell of a lot of skaters nowadays and for me, this guy doesn't catch my eye or put out anything interesting. What I'm trying to say is Element looked like a pretty sound fit to me, just my opinion though...
If you can't sleep I recommend:

That's basically how I feel as well, I've kind of glossed over him but it's cool that he's getting this opportunity. The kickflip noseblunt was nice.

his younger footage was pretty dope. I remember his stuff in the old RVCA promo with David Reyes. he had a mean bs bigspin and kickflip

I'm not hugely knowledgeable of this guy but this part definitely doesnt help combat the view that he is pretty standard and forgettable

amazing how you asshole praise the dudes on mango or ben kadow but then say julian is boring has plenty of style and dope trick selection
i bet yall think jamie foy is watchable

it’s brand snobbery
if this guy went to isle or polar or quasi, they’d say he’s awesome

This has to be the most boring industry move in years

Would they? I think people would be very confused.
If they were going to add someone in their late 20's, I would've gone with Frankie Heck. Obvious Julian is well known by their riders and by Andrew so it makes enough sense.
-
he looks great on a skateboard. i know nothing about him, so deathwish is sort of surprising to learn. is he secretly a bad boy?

I remember his first tricks in Future Nature, the rest of the part was pretty forgettable to me, but the beginning stuck in memory. I'm still hoping they put out a part that showcases his skating better, good editing can do wonders to his image and stuff.
-
I always liked his perpetual motion part, even if they should have given Silas last part.
-
What bands has this fella skated to?
What brand booted him for partying too hard?
Peep show is pure hilarity, Brit and OZ comedy is far superior to ours in North America.

ben k and mango are fucking sick
i am completely neutral on this move, as i do not care about either him or Deathwish

Julian Davidson is Schroedingers pro. Both underrated and overrated. With a uniquely bland name, he fakie flips stairs and no one remembers.
When he’s in a video no one talks about his part, but when he’s mentioned otherwise people feel the need to talk about how good he is.

There’s I guess there’s 3 main ways most people consume skate media these days, either they watch something on insta/social media, or you watch your favorite parts, and then u got the full length. When u turn on said full length, u always make note to watch his part and be thoroughly enjoyed, but u would never put him into that second branch of watching him on his own as your favorite part or a part TK watch by itself. He is the Lou Williams of skateboarding, he’s not a star, but a role player on a company.

So... who’s going to be the one to break THIS to him, then? Or do you suppose he’s already aware?

What bands has this fella skated to?
He skated to Pagan Altar, another connection to Deathwish. Two songs, back to back on the album; Judgment of the Dead(Julien) and Black Mass(Slash).

If you watch this part but pretend he skates for Quasi, like really just imagine he's some new guy on Quasi, it's like you're watching a different and much better skater.
I wonder how much of someone's perceived enjoyability to watch is simply a result of the brands they skate for, even subconsciously.
Like that Pedro Attenborough kid on 917, he was getting flowed Primitive boards beforehand. I feel like if he was some Primitive kid from MACBA nobody would give a shit. But he's on 917 so he's perceived totally differently.
