Hope the title makes sense. Anyway, someone posted in the deBobby thread:

This and purple, John Maus and Brian Eno, Mac Demarco, Suicide...He may have the best track record of all time in my mind.
How can you forget his DC part was Elliott Smith
And it got me thinking of the music selection of other pros:
Arto - David Bowie "1984" and "Rock n' Roll Suicide", "Handsome Devil" by the Smiths, but then they hit us with Battles "Atlas" which sounds like robot elves squirching around.
Dylan - Ramones "Garden of Serenity" (shared part with The Butcher) is whatever, but then that "Cherry Red" song in A Time to Shine was chill, then Elliott Smith "Coast to Coast", Cass McCombs and Graham Nash in his Gravis part, Cherry had "Never Tear Us Apart", and I really liked the dark ass David Bowie song in his Huf part.
Anyone care to write out different pros' music careers? Favorites? Objective best choices? Pros with great music and subpar skating, or amazing skating and shitty music? Most random song choices for a part?

Carrol tho!

Carrol tho!
Yup.
-
Carroll gets my vote... it may not be the best songs ever... but its the most suiting to him & his skating each time.
Jamie Thomas is similar... he knows what he wants & how to get there.

Heath - Bowie, morrissey, shinda shims, nights in white satin, new order.
Dill - Radiohead, spoon, cass mccombs, animal collective,
Reynolds - Jimi Hendrix, roxy music, Donovan.
Somebody mentioned Carroll. I can’t think of hip hop centric skaters where I can really agree with. Please correct me with this because I know I’m wrong.
Uhh John Igei? Jeru, gangstarr, and nickatina come to mind.

Reynolds - Jimi Hendrix, roxy music, Donovan.
DJ Shadow??
Never thought about it but Elissa Steamer n Dylan had good songs.
Ave except for that 12 Jewels song in his Best of 411 I just watched.
Danny Montoyas soundtrack comes to mind at the moment...
Pat Raketsraw sticks out too.
-
No one will ace this, but I always thought Koston killed it with whatever he was matched with.
DGKalis has the most parts with songs I'd listen to if they weren't in a skate part.
-
MJ- joy division, new order, the stones, bowie, nina simone, built to spill... his fully flared songs weren't amazing but still good.
-
MJ for sure.
I’ve always loved the obscure but good old punk songs Corey Duffel has used, even when he wasn’t my cup of tea (been liking him more lately)
-
This actually makes me wonder what is the answer to the opposite of this question. Which artists has the best parts to their music. Without thinking too in-depth I would guest Dinosaur Jr. (Pops-Mosiac, Rudy-Video Days, Omar-Mindfield, Tosh-Sight Unseen, Grant-Mindfield, Alien-411).
Edit: Forgot the obvious guess of Morrisey.
-
Heath and Jerry. Also Louie simply for Young Turks
-
Nestor dudes

David Lynch, Dennis Hopper, and Dean Stockwell killed it to this song.
-
Jake Johnson

i can't hear that animal collective song without thinking of that shot of him making eye contact with the camera in mindfield. all his music always just fits him

Dinosaur also had the best Mike V part, Neil Blender and Steve Claar at Sadlands and weird Swank skating in Speed Freaks. They're all over that video because of Santa Cruz's deal with SST but those are for sure the stand outs.
Me and my skate pals sure did like firehose a whole lot because of Natas.
As cornball as I think his image was, Corey Duffel sure did skate to some good songs. Dead Moon Night is so fucking good.
Heath also put out some magical combinations of skating and music that I never get tired of. I'm sad that his head is getting messy but I'm grateful for what he did.
-
Bobby Worrest and Kool Keith
-
AVE
Carroll
Jerry Hsu
Thomas
Dylan
-
corey duffel comes to mind
Some skaters might insist on songs, but with an example like jake johnson skating to animal collective in mind field and death in june in purple, i want to lean towards the filmers picking the music.

You cant skate to that song - its a stupid idea. Unless you get killed by a car rolling away from your last trick and then the epitaph roles.

Brad Cromer - Talking Heads, early stuff from The Cure, J Mascis, Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Modest Mouse, Spiritualized
-
I enjoy pop/folk music, so anytime a Shane Oniell part is released, I'm excited to hear the music. The only part I was bummed about the music was his welcome to primitive part

Chico Brenes
Edit: Nate Jones (Didn't have that many parts but skated to Gil Scott-Heron)

I wholeheartedly agree with you and this was an excellent comment.
Unrelated, but I feel like in the realm of hiphop skaters, I always liked the songs Welsh skated too.
Even more unrelated, I love that Mike York skated to both Funkadelic in yeah right and straight of locash from the movie CB4 in the chocolate tour.
-
Suciu! Youth Lagoon, Elliott Smith, Diiv, Beach Fossils, Beach House. Always really dreamy music.
-
Josh Kalis with that Freddy Fox song in photo nails it. I was delighted to hear in the bobshirt interview that he picked that song because he was beefing with the habitat riders.
The chief has never had a bad song in a video part, especially his chomp part !
-
Westgate and Miner. all their Emerica stuff with Earthless and Explosions in the sky fucking killed it. stoked for that combo in the Element video
-
Stevie Williams.
Big L, Beanie Sigel, Hov, etc.
-
That one dude who skates to the Highway Murderers. They seem mellow.
-
Are we going to the opposite of this next?
If so: Appleyard.
-
Austyn in who’s to say from WKND. Richard Hawley is a G. WKND has an outstanding music selection.
I always liked Maldonado skating to London Dungeon in WTH.
-
Dustin Dollin's parts put me on to a lot of music I probably would have never considered, and the music always complimented his skating really well - Pixies, Smiths, Morrisey, Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Zager and Evans
-
Elllington. Not only good songs but always perfectly matched to his style
-
Heath
Stenger
Freddy Gall (going up country i don’t think was his choice)
-
Shane O'Neils songs have been fuckin tremendous
-
Chima
The Stranglers x2, Iggy Pop, Cass McCombs, Australian Crawl, Brian Eno
-
Josh khakis

-

-
Gino, but I'm parcial to Wu-Tang.
-
Cardiel - Sizzla, Bad Brains, Brotha Lynch
-
That pat smith part was my favorite in label kills

"Music Selection" fell off, and died after Asian Goddess (The best ever}
Anyone who doesn't have this in a video are brainlet simps.

-
Tom Knox skating to Eurythmics was cool and unexpected
but i think Creager did it in Trilogy too
-
Chima has always had music that flowed well
-
Tom Penny:
Velvet Underground, Sadat X, Moby's only good song, David Bowie - Heroes
-
Carroll wins, everything he skates to is hot because he skated to it.
Spanky has picked songs that best capture his vibe better than anyone else.
Reynolds probably pulled off the widest range of song selections without looking like a try-hard.
MJ comes off as having the best taste in music without going full blown music elitist. He also had the best Jenkem mix easily.
The songs Rory Milanes skates to always makes me want to time travel to the 90s and buy expensive clothes at the nice mall with my shaved head bi-racial pansexual bitch from New York or London.

Tom Penny:
Velvet Underground, Sadat X, Moby's only good song, David Bowie - Heroes

Moody Blues edit all day. I think it's a case where having to do a second cut made for a much better part. The editing in that is so on point. It's one of the best edit tricks to the beat of the song part I can think of.

Going to grow a wild card, younger guy in, since all the classics are taken.
Pat Burke.
He pulls off skating to Brotha Lynch so easy. The Eastbound and Down song is a polar opposite and works so well.
Hopefully, he is off the stuff and doing ok. Sadly, I think what he gave is all we will get :/
