the nostalgia from skating an old childhood spot
[close]

This weekend I was visiting my home town & I got to spend a day on the board, revisiting several of my childhood spots. Being 40 & skating something you skated when you were 13 is something I hope everyone here gets to experience. It's amazing the shit that comes back to you - old sessions, tricks you'd forgot, people you'd forgot, etc.

Plus it makes me realize that - aside from jumping down big shit & the ability to go without rest - I'm better in almost every way as a skater now than I was back then.
I'm 36. I feel this way too. My mental focus is better.

Edit: I had fun pushing to get a haircut earlier.

Skating with great weather and a sunny day. Went to the local park and got a lot of shit just cruising around and shit, super chill session.

popping proper lofty fs ollies on a skatepark hip, which is something I thought I'd never do again (on account of a bad back and being almost 40).
floating that ollie and then stomping the landing was one of the best feelings I had on my board in years.

Went to our "warm up spot" which has been abandoned for the past 12 years and is now being taken over by a large Christian hobby chain store, only to find a (square) downed 30 ft. long light pole from the parking lot out front on the ground, right where we usually skate. No wax needed. I don't know if they were getting rid of it or fixing it and putting it back up, but if they put it back up they might have to re-paint it.

got a new cruiser yesterday. i work on a college campus and i usually park in the garage right next to our building. ive decided that im going to now park in the garage farthest away and skate into work every day. its only about a half mile each way and its definitely not the same as being able to skate to work from home, but at least at this point ill be skating every nice day we have until winter hits.

Skated some spots, and checked out this new skateshop that's skating distance from me. Then skated home pushing fast, doing powerslides and getting all sketchy, it was more fun than actually skating the spots haha.

havent done anything myself (yet) but i got stoked watching someone skate today. i had a meeting and as i was walking out of the building to go back to my office a group of kids walked past this 7 stair in front. one of the kids had a skateboard and said something like "hold up, im going to try this" none of his friends looked like they skated, but the all stood on the side while the one kid ran to the top, turned around and jumped down the set. he tried it twice and slipped out rolling away both times but i thought it was pretty gnarly. most people i see on campus ride long boards or pennys and skate no faster than someone speed walking so it was really sick to see some kid just walk up and barge a decent sized set.

Finally learned wallie boardslides. That trick's stupid easy, can't believe I didn't learn them before.

Then I reminded myself why I shouldn't be skating on a heel bruise.
