Wheels for both Technical and Transition on Skatepark Surfaces
« on: January 04, 2020, 03:35:25 PM »
Hi guys, this is my first post!

I am searching for a set of wheels ideal for all styles of skateboarding (technical, transition, bowls) for smooth surfaces since I skate at a skatepark >95% of the time.

The wheels have to be small, light, and nimble enough to be able to do basic flip tricks (kickflips) and clear gaps and ledges (without hanging up) while performing ollies. At the same time, I would like for the wheels to be stable and grippy enough to minimize slip-outs, which tend to occur when I do sharp carving or pump too hard down sleek transition.

Any suggestions in terms of size, duro, shape, or specific brand/model?

Thanks in advance!

Moon or die is almost correct.

I'd vote F4 54mm 99a Classics.

Thanks guys, and sorry about if my original question has been asked a billion times before :-\

I was thinking about the Spitfire F4 99a Conical 54mm. Is there a reason you would favor 54mm over 53mm?...or would either one of the sizes suffice?

What are the advantages of the Spitfire Classic shape as opposed to the Conical shape? Aren't the classic shapes heavier and more prone to slip-outs due to smaller contact patch?

Also, how are the Bones SPF 54mm in comparison to the Spitfire F4 99a Conical 54mm?

Which Bones shape are you referring to? They range from V1 to V6.

You can't go wrong with with the Classic, Conical or Radial shape, the difference between models is pretty small and won't have a huge impact on your skateboarding unless you're on your board for like 10-14 hours a day. That said most folks on here would go for 1 of the 3 shape.

I personally like the concial more over the classic. Better grip when skating ledges and easier rides for rougher streets. In terms of wheel size you can't go wrong with 53 or 54, Ben Degros mentioned the 54 being a better value wheel since you can wear it down to a 50 and still maintain the shape, giving you the best longevity.
Venture Truck Height:

5.0 & 5.2 LO
STANDARD - 1.88” - 47.75mm
FORGED - 1.85”- 46.99mm

5.0 ,5.2, 5.6, 5.8 & 6.1 HI
STANDARD - 2.09” - 53.09mm
FORGED - 2.04” - 51.82m

I am referring to P5 shape for the SPF, such as the following:

Moon or die is almost correct.

I'd vote F4 54mm 99a Classics.
Actually once the classics are a little worn down they kinda turn into Conicals.
You can get the best of both worlds eventually <3

I've noticed that the Spitfire F4 Conicals 99a seems pretty hard to find in 54mm. Zumiez has a Spitfire x Vans version of it, but otherwise difficult to find.

Any opinion of Spitfire F4 99a Conical FULL at 52-53mm?

Yeah, I love the way the Classics wear down.

While I’m more of a 53mm man myself you can’t beat a 99a classic F4

I prefer the classic formula over F4 spitfires in classic shape

Anywhere from 51-53mm depending
Handsome debonair fella, Got the Mellow Yellow bezel, Black rims on the Phantom same color Dr. Pepper.
