GOOD halfcab flips
« on: April 27, 2024, 08:16:09 PM »
So I can halfcab flip like 9 out of 10 tries and would make it in a game of skate or whatever,  but they're pretty much always a bit shitty. Sometimes it feels cool to just flop one around with a bit of sketch , and on occasion I will snap a really nice one and I feel like I don't do anything different. Most of the time if i try a nice one it sort of caspers/wraps around my front foot. I miss the pop on them often too. It trips me out because I remember being good at them when I was like 12/13.

I can think of fs ones as a fakie flip + half cab and do them well, but the regular one doesn't feel like same combo.

Any hot tips for consistent, good, halfcab flips?

popping foot in the pocket like a front shuv. pop straight down, no scoop. turn your shoulders, flick straight off the middle of the nose so it folds/tweaks a bit.

i wonder if that back foot tip will make all the difference. i've never consciously put it over there.

thank you

It helps me because it forces me to pop straight down and not scoop. All the rotation comes from the shoulders and also flicking directly off the nose to fold the flip

I can strangely do this on transition/banks but have never ever made one on flat. It’s an unexplainable phenomenon.

Good luck to anyone trying to get a good one.

Popping foot in toeside pocket, open shoulders towards the tail before popping, and try to think about popping up rather than exaggerating the half cab 180.

This should suck the board up nicely and mean catching it at the full 180 and landing.

For what it’s worth I feeel like 1/2 cab flips are one of those tricks that work if you don’t try really hard.
If I focus too much they don’t flip and just stick to my front foot. The more casually I try them the better they work.
