Like, I don't care about if Britney Spears or 50 Cent gets paid, but what about indie artists? I'd rather they get some money.

Yeah, I definitely see what you're saying, but you can make the same argument that people make for skate videos on youtube, how this exposes more people to something that they otherwise wouldn't know about, and if people really feel a connection to it, they'll buy it. I know I first learned about a lot of my favorite bands through sites like these, and now I own their complete discographies.
But at the same time, just like I'm sure many kids just watch the videos on youtube and never buy the video,there are people who will just download stuff with no intention of ever buying anything from the artist. Still, I wouldn't completely condemn sites like this, since like a lot of things in life, it's not totally black and white. And there are also, or at least were, a lot of things on there you couldn't buy, like out of print albums, and live stuff and demos.
