longtime lurker, first time poster. I've made a website which I think some people might find useful. It's called Union Discount, and i was curious to see what people think and if they'd find it useful. the story is:
In 2017, I realized Grey Skate Mag has a list of stockists on it’s website. I was broke and wanted to buy clothes, and the shops which had Grey were generally good, skater-owned stores, so I realized I could look through the sale section of each shop, and get a bunch of good shit for cheap.
In 2023, I realized I could pull all those together into one place, so you can filter and browse through everything at once. Everything on here is on sale from 120+ skate shops which I chose myself by lurking on google maps.
You don’t buy anything on UD, it takes you through to the website of the shop itself, 100% of the money goes to the store, and always will.
I’ve got friends who own stores and I’ve read articles about how hard it can be, and after the 2020 boom in skating, loads of stores are stuck with a ton of stock (in europe at least, the article was in SOLO mag).
Maybe one day I’ll run ads on here so it pays for itself, but first and foremost I want it to be something good for skating.
I’m aware of Parade World, but i don’t want to make another Parade World. This will stay as an aggregator, always going through to the store, a collection of links. I don’t want the hassle of getting into the business side of things with the stores, I don’t want that kind of relationship.
You get cheap stuff, you support a real skate store, and they get more sales/get rid of stock they might be struggling to sell.
I wanna hear what you think, especially if you own a store whether it's on there or not, or know what's up in the industry!!
