« on: February 22, 2010, 02:01:43 PM »
i've been listening to a lot of folk lately, but i always find time to play a little blues.  i love finding gems on youtube of really early primitive stuff as well as contemporary favorites of mine.  here are a few.

What's the folk music your into? I find a lot of good old stuff from the 20's to the 40's at the library like The Smithsonian Folkways series.

I like  a lot of old blues, country, jazz and old timey music in general.

However, don't get this confused with the folk rival of the 1960's. A lot of that stuff is terrible.

I found out about a lot of rad stuff through folkways stuff from the library (blind blake, blind lemon jefferson, charlie patton, leadbelly etc.), but I never saw any of the ones you posted there DNA. That "whiter shade of blue" one sounds great.

This is an amazing collection, too. Vintage blues and jazz songs about alcohol and drugs.

I'd been wanting to make a thread about pre 1950's music Americana/Folk/roots like old bluegrass/hillbilly/blues/country/jazz. or any old timey music like western swing or jump blues. I guess I will high jack this thread.

There's this whole series of like 10 CDs I found at the library called Roots of Rock n Roll focusing on music from the 20's to the 40's. It's been hard to find them online.

There's a crapload of awesome songs on these CDs

Anything from the Alan Lomax , Library of Congress sessions is good, too
