naw vans are pretty damn trendy.  but they've been popular and trendy amongst skaters for a long time........id call them a 'staple'  among skateboarders or something

i just wouldn't want to be associated with 'sneaker heads' or anything like that.......HYPE BEAST,  THE HUNDREDS.....it all reminds me of nike....

ive always liked vans, had three pairs of xlt's way back, and when nikes came on the scene i got a bunch of those, both good shoes, both pretty popular, who gives a fuck? quality shoes in different aspects.

I think Nike make some good shoes, had some Blazers and Zoom Tres and they've both been great. Although, I don't care too much about what's behind the scenes at Nike, I do respect them alot as they've helped out alot of skateboarders in the UK and done quite alot for us in terms of funding and what not. So hat's off to them, but if you have a problem with them being in shops I guess I can see where you're coming from.

Just wear what feels/looks good and try not to worry about the skate politics.

personally the nike sb blazer blows most vans shoes away as far as quality,durability,comfort and materials.
I do like vans and the new ave sk8 low and the tnt 2 mid both are good shoes,but halfcabs last me 2 weeks max and thats with shoe goo. i can get almost a month out of blazers before the sole is totally flat.
to each there own but thats just my 2 cents.
id rather be associated with hypebeast than emo/raver pants/my chemical romance.

This is regular. First off, Vans, corporation, IPath, corporation, Nike, obviously corporation. Those are the 3 brands I'm feelin' so I rock those. They make ill sneakers. I was actually checking out some shoes at the local shop today and I saw a kid with a Nike shirt go up to the counter to buy it. Some 16 year old "realer than thou" jerkoff goes "Kid, you're dumb. Buy this Don't Do It shirt here cause Nike doesn't do anything for skating. "What about hooking shit up poper in Tampa?"

i'm one of those skaters, who profits from his sponsored skate buddies. in the last 6 years i bought 3 (!) skateshoes at a shop, all lakai, because i feel that my money goes to the right place. but then again i had like 10 pairs of adidas in a row and now it's my third pair nike in a row ... 10-15 euros for a used pair. i have the worst principles, when it comes to cheap stuff.

i rode only vans for years and i'd bought a pair of AF-1s for chilling shoes, but since chillen shoes always become skate shoes i rocked the nike basketball shoes, they skate really well and last for quite some time. Everything is a corporation of sorts, evil profiteers, all of them, so just get what works well.

I buy anything thats cheap except emerica. I really dont give a fuck to be honest, nike has hooked up some people I know and their product testing program is bad ass. What other shoe company sends out samples to regular kids to get feed back on their product? If other skate companies did that, then the shoes would obviously last longer and be constructed better. Adidas does the same with product testing also, but I think skate shoe companies should learn the little things like that.
