Making a double sided curb skateable?
« on: August 28, 2020, 11:23:25 AM »
Any tips to make it more easier to grind other than wax? Also is there anything to keep it from getting chunky and chipping?

Rub brick it. Laquer it. Wax it.

So I have started many curbs/ledges and the method is super simple.
1. Use a rub brick to smooth it out. Or if you have access to a cordless angle grinder, use that as smoothing it out goes faster.
2. Get all of the dust off with a broom or blower.
3. Apply 2-4 coats of spray lacquer (the more the better). Ideally having a few hours between coats for dry time, although this is not critical. (Roughly one can will get you a 10ft section of curb)
4. Allow 24 hours to dry and shred.

If you follow all these steps, your curb will grind great. On the ones I've done they didn't even need wax the first few sessions. You said its a double sided curb, so make sure you get both sides coated evenly and focus on getting all parts of the curb you will be sliding grinding.

Here are some links to what you need to start:

Also linked a another thread on this topic and you can read through and pick up some other tips. Don't get too obsessed with the brand of clear coat though, the one I linked works great, but I've used tons of different kinds, as long as you apply enough they all work fine at the end of the day.
