This is only slightly relevant, but here is a photo my mom sent me today! It's funny that she has no idea how legendary he is. I love my mom, she's so rad.
That's pretty sick. Makes you smile.
What's the backstory?
J.Wray took art classes at Fullerton College, where my mom works. This is where the photo was taken at, during a Thomas Campbell residency at the school (also, my mom talked about me to T.Campbell (I live in Oregon and couldn't make it down), I guess I had a part in getting him to do the residency and homeboy gave me a signed copy of Cuatro Sueños Pequeños for my bday). My mom talked to him a couple times before she figured out he skated. I met him once, he was making little hula girl figurines, and it was awkward because we didn't know what to say. He also had an Indy ad grinding the cramped stairwell that's located near this where this photo was taken (Rowley recently had a Vans ad 180 nosegrinding it, Ethan Fowler also 50-50'd it), and we put the ad up in the office for a few months. I grew up in La Habra, where Wray Bros. did as well.
