watched a flick called "The Wages of Fear." 1953 French film by Henri-Georges Clouzot. I really enjoyed eveything about it. If nothing else, let go of the writing, the acting, cinematography, and larger themes, it's dudes driving nitroglycerin through the jungle.

Anyways, i'm interested in watching more from I'd say a ten year period after WW2. As with poetry and visual art, the camps and the bombs, obliteration of humankind and any notion of God, has to have done something to film.

Watch Sorcerer.  It’s kind of a remake, but I think most people think it’s superior.   It’s only problem was that it opened the week before Star Wars, so it kinda got swallowed up.   Directed by William Friedkin

really? i'll have to watch it and report back

The sorcerer was a solid film. I do however appreciate the wages of fear to a greater regard. There was a more coherent plot line in the earlier film and while the acting was strong in the latter, the earlier was more captivating despite or in spite of 0 effects.

Regardless, both strong films.

Watched Malcom X as well and wheweee. What a guy

I need to see "Wages of Fear" still. I've watched "Sorcerer" many a time and love it. The ending is so beatiful and so dark at the same time. Like, you pretty much know what's gonna happen next but all Friedkin needs to do is start up that Tangerine Dream score. They're actually playing it at The New Beverly for four nights in a couple weeks.

Damn I’m def going to try and go to that.   Not to brag, but I caught it at the Chinese IMAX during the TCM fest a few years back

Big Night. Love it. Finally got to watch it the girlfriend. All around a good night and I’m relieved but not too surprised she enjoyed it too.

I will have to give the sorcerer another go round.

Watched Triangle of Sadness last night. The captain and shit merchant were the most redeeming characters, by far. Although the point, well anpoint of the film is to present such miserable, unlikeable characters, i need some points of connection and this was one where i was saying “fuck this guy... God she sucks…”

Felt the hand grenade scene was a bit too ironic and predictable but good enough. I will say that all the shit spoke to my inner sense of wanting to sling shit at the oligarchy.

Tubi has a real nice version of the cannibal man. I was laughing along thinking it's a dark comedy but then on a rewatch maybe it's not lol but either way it looks real nice and has a pretty good dub.

The trailer shows visuals but not really the tone. Also the average slap users will no doubt want to skip the first minute of the film for real.

I didn't see this recently, but saw this last year at a film festival I attended. the trailer just came out and it's playing in select theatres across canada and US next week and thought i'd throw in this recommendation. directed by graham foy and starring a couple skaters. skating isn't necessarily a major plot point, but it's how the two main characters became friends.

Has anyone rewatch the spoof movie Mafia! recently?   Saw it before I saw Casino, Godfather, English Patient etc so it’s always weird to come across a reference point from that movie I didn’t realize was it’s own thing

Had this on VHS.  Pleasantly surprised at all the Eurohorror Tubi has.  Lots of really rare stuff tbat was impossible to find just a few years ago.

Would like to see more of this director’s other stuff.

Enjoyed How to Blow Up A Pipeline.   Wasn’t what I expected (or which pipelines I was expecting) though I kinda wanted a little more and I’m not sure if that’s a function if the movie not giving me enough or just wanting to be in the story longer.

Also, realized halfway through how much that title reminded me of the U2 album

Yeah, I just stumbled across it earlier this week. Tim Blake Nelson (Henry) is such a great actor.  Amazing performance.

I had no expectations and little knowledge going into it, but the Dungeons and Dragons movie was a really good time.

Some months back someone in this or a similar thread, posted this really good documentary from maybe the late 70s/early 80s, that was like a really gritty slice-of-life type doc. It followed the life of these kids living on the street, doing drugs, crime, & hustling. I think it was filmed in NYC but could have been SF or some other major city.

I had never heard of it before but it was super good, and can't recall what it was called now. Anybody remember the film I'm talking about & can tell me the name of it? Any help would be appreciated, thank you

For anyone who missed that Willem Dafoe movie “Inside” in theaters, it’s currently free on Peacock
