They’re flip tricks
-
what’s your fav? mines fakie front shove..
-
I can only front shuv, but they’re a favorite.
-
Back big is the favorite to do, Fakie big spins are my favorite to see in videos.
They’re spin tricks not flip tricks
-
The board doesn't flip so.....no.

4. Flip tricks
5. Grind tricks
6. Spin tricks ? ? ? ?
I was going to say, yes, flip tricks (on a technicality) but hadn't considered spin tricks. Are you including 180s and 360s in the category of spin tricks?

I guess technically I would call 180’s and 360’s spin tricks, also.

Great, I hate it

Shove it's what?

Spins on a horizontal axis - Not flip tricks
Spins on a vertical axis - Flip trick
Wrapped impossibles count as a flip non wrapped = shitty 3 shuv.

Ok but what are they if they aren’t flip tricks. No one has ever said “spin in spin out” it’s flip in flip out
-
"Ayyyy G that bigspin had a very nice flip to it!!!"
-
No…..flip tricks are flip tricks, spin tricks are 180 and 360 tricks and shove its are called shove its….you answered it in your title…that’s like saying are flip tricks shove its? You’re dumb

Depends on how you view "flip tricks".
If you consider it to be an umbrella term to describe tricks that typically involve popping & manipulating the board around and landing back on it, then I would consider it a flip trick.
If you want to be semantical then no, it's not technically a "flip" trick, but good luck coming up with a non-wacky sounding category to fit them into.
-
No not flips tricks. If the bottom of your board doesn't face up at some point during the trick, it's not a flip. I guess you can argue that the board flips directions but is a FS 180 a flip trick then?
-
anybody who says it isn't a flip trick is wrong, you don't say "spin trick" or "shove trick" or anything else when referring to them on a broad scale. if you say otherwise you're fucking lying
-
My bs bigspins refuse to not flip, so for me, yes.

Shuvs. IE shuv in/out. They’re their own animal.

Maybe technically no but fuck it yes. "Actually Frankenstein is the doctors name" who cares. Is a mctwist a flip trick?
-
Maybe technically no but fuck it yes. "Actually Frankenstein is the doctors name" who cares. Is a mctwist a flip trick?
No, it’s a twisted spin trick while a miller flip is a somersault maneuver.
And no, shove its are not flip tricks and varials aren’t shove its, let alone flip tricks.
-
I mean bigspin has spin in the name so yes it’s a “spin” trick. They’re shove it’s.
-
Has anyone ever done an ollie and gone around the board themselves without grabbing it? What would that be? Not sure if it's even physically possible. I think that would count as a flip trick because you would go around all sides of the board.

So by your logic, a 360 flip is a double flip?
If someone did a shuv in or out and you called it a flip in I'd politely correct you. If it's not a flip trick I'd say whatever it was ie "shuv in or shuv out". If the board don't flip, how can it be a flip trick? Just because other people call it the incorrect thing doesn't make it right.
-
I'm surprised this is even being debated.
When you flip a pancake do you just rotate it 180 degrees in the pan?
Heads or tails?
Now if we called flip tricks "spin" tricks, you could argue the case for shuvs and bispins being under that umbrella, but as it is...no flip involved, not a flip trick.
-
They aren't flip tricks. The board does not flip over at any point unlike kickflip, heelflip, 360 flip which all flip. Back tail bigspin isn't a flip out trick its a fucking bigspin out why was this shitty thread even made have you skated for more than a year?
-

My brother in Christ a BIGSPIN doesn't flip.
When it does it's called BIGSPINFLIP (BIGFLIP)
You absolutely specify SHUVIT when doing pop,fs,nollie,switch,360 SHUVIT.
Flip tricks need to FLIP
-
This dude sucks and even he gets it^
-
Too many people (more than 0) voted yes.
-
no they aren't, but somehow they could be harder than flip tricks
In 23 years of skating I've never conquered shove its, I can only shove out noseslides
Stopped doing pop shoveits since I obliterated my back foot missing one down a 3 stair... we were playing "most tricks down this shitty set" and I had done nollie backsideflip and fakie tre minutes before. My ego still hurts.
-
It's all an illusion.
-
Sometimes on a front shuv my bloard flips half crushing my toe in the process, that‘s all I can do for you OP.
-
my head hurts from the amount of peopel that answered YES to this... but i am sure half of them are trolls. even still that number is way too large.
"Legal" Flatground Skateboard tricks basically consist of 3 things once you have determined takeoff stance;
Board Rotation
Board Flip
Body Rotation
You can see Board Rotation and Body Rotation are 2 clearly seperate things in what makes up a flatground trick. So by calling shove-its "Flip tricks" you are basically saying 180s are also flip tricks. I mean hey - technically you can do a backflip! mad abd
There is some exceptions - Impossibles, late flips, opposite foot flips, underflips, pressure flips. this is where it gets really sketchy and i am not really sure how rule some of these. but this is why skating is cool
-
I can’t wait for some of you to have kids, and if you’re lucky they may take up skateboarding. And some day they’re going to run inside and say “mom/dad/birthingperson, I just learned a flip trick!” And you’ll be so proud and excited and ask what they did.
And they’re going to tell you they landed a shuv it and then you’ll say “WeLl AcTuAlLy….

Backflip has flip in its name is that a flip trick?
-
Also, for the record, Fred Gall is a vote for yes, sorry. My poll my rules
-
I can see the obvious logic of "no, the board did not flip over."
However, in THPS, shuvs are technically looped in with flip tricks, which could have subliminally rooted the answer "yes" to this query in young skaters' brains decades ago. So I can also see the argument for flip tricks being the umbrella statement for when you cause the board to leave your feet, rotate in some manner, and then return to your feet.
The answer is Fred Gall. You all keep arguing these semantics.
-

Is a body varial a flip trick? I think it is because you might get slightly dizzy if you do one too fast or if you do several in a row, and you can also get slightly dizzy from watching a board flip a lot, like a quadruple kickflip. Talk about a gnarly and exhilarating maneuver that's highly overlooked and underrated.
-
Retarted question. Retarted thread
-
Some people may be confused so here’s an easy answer
There are different axis the board can rotate on.
The main 2 are lengthwise (nose-tail) and through the center of the board (top/bottom) while it’s horizontal.
If it rotates along the nose-tail axis, it’s a flip (flips must rotate 360 to land, not counting casper and dark slide stuff)
If it rotates horizontally, it’s a spin. (This can rotate only 180 and still land)
Then there are blends where the board rotates on both axis at the same time.
Like someone said, there are exceptions, like impossible, where the board flips on its rail-to-rail axis, but as long at the trucks rotate above the board (which usually means the board must rotate 360 to land) it’s a flip.
-
I’m guessing the intent is to show that just because something isn’t a flip trick it can be still be considered difficult… duh…..
Dumber question….is an impossible a flip trick….I mean..it’s not a shuv…..is a Casper a flip trick….
Dumb…dumb…

If a body varial is considered a spin trick then so should a shuv.

Big(SPIN) backtail kick(FLIP) out
Does that answer the initial question of this thread?

No, boardslides are slides. Grinds grind on the trucks, hence them being called grinds.

There are certain skateparks that have this weird angle iron that almost feels soft or something, I'm not sure how to explain it. Either way, you get absolutely no grind sound or feedback. I hate the way it feels and always describe it "you don't grind these ledges, you truck slide them".
They look like this...

I’m glad you dropped in, I’ve been meaning to ask you: do you think the HBO Max hit television show “Barry” starring Bill Hader as a depressed hit man trying to become an actor is a comedy or drama? I’m having a hard time figuring it out…

If the board flips over its a flip.
If the board rotates 180 or 360 it's not a flip.
Slide tricks do not involve the trucks except sliding on the baseplate.
Please consider focusing your account if you are not aware of these things.

I just find this hard to believe. To do a pop shove it in Tony hawk, you hit the flip button. And to do a nose slide or tail slide, you hit the grind button. Seems straightforward to me?
-
What if a no-comply complies? Is it still a no comply if you land it? Is it a just a one foot shove it 180 ? The world may never know.

I don‘t remember as this was in the 90s but it became a running gag with my crew. So strange to think of that kid but now I remember he was called Jethro and he was also a beatboxer.

i've mentioned this before, but i had a kid ask me if i could do "glides" back in the day - he was referring to grinds. i think of it oft' and it gives me a little smile. he also asked if i could do kingflips - meaning kickflip.
this leads conveniently to a more recent interaction where i met a kid at the skatepark who asked if i could kickfling. got me thinking about kingflings. i like glides and flings.
fling could appropriately cover flips and shuvs. {i am absolutely joking if you're easily confused, but it could.}

I had a conversation with someone working in the Apple store the other day about skating who ended up calling skating a skatepark "vert skating". That seems to happen quite often with people that used to skate. I wonder if it's something to do with THPS that only had street and vert as the two disciplines for the pros.
