Santa Cruz x Pokemon
« on: July 10, 2023, 08:29:18 AM »

I've really gone 180 on this licensed product stuff. You could track my post history to 10 years ago with the star wars and TMNT shit dropped and I thought it was so sick. I loved the Dwindle Flintstones stuff. Now it's treating boards like trading cards.

I think it’s appropriate given that it’s Pokémon. Like, I get where you’re coming from, but in this instance it doesn’t bother me too much. As a matter of fact, I’ve never bought SC anything, but I grew up with Pokémon so these are kinda sick to me.

With my luck, I’d probably get a Magikarp board. Pass.

At least they did my boy Bulbasaur a solid and put him in that lineup, Pikachu gets way too much love.

And they kept it to Gen 1 Pokemon (for now), Genwunners like me only recognize the first 151 as legitimate.

But I hate how SC has gone the Gacha / seal bags route for this to encourage more scalping and artificially inflating demand.

How did Primitive not do this before SC?

It's weird because I feel like my age would be the most nostalgic for those Pokemon but maybe the least into Santa Cruz. People over 40 prob have no interest and wouldn't kids like all the weird new ones (like who the heck is that 4th gold one looks like some kid snuck in and drew a bootleg with a marker)

I feel like this collab- maybe more than others- is for the “used to skate” crowd that hasn’t touched a board since red and blue version came out

graphics actually arent bad though

But maybe if you hold to it long enough it will turn into a Gyarados

These seem like they are targeted at the people who buy Pokemon cards by the factory case and don't open the cases. People who weigh booster packs because they know the gram difference between a holographic card pack and a standard pack. These people are the reason Pokemon cards at grocery stores are now in vending machines and why your target may be a police officer on location during card restock day.

These things are expected to cost $100 - $150

If they were 8.5s I would've copped one to skate. HAHA.

But I know my youngest nephew will love this. Might cop one as an early Christmas gift for him.

That’s Mimikyu. It’s a ghost Pokémon that literally draws itself a cheap pikachu disguise in order to lure people close lmao

Ah I guess that's good then. Still weird it's the only non original (unless it became the new mascot or whatever, I'll admit I haven't played any attention to Pokemon since 99)

Same. It’s insulting that they would even put it on a deck. Like it’s the most useless Pokémon until it evolves. Should’ve been all legendaries.

Gengar, Snorlax and Magikarp ones look tite as fuck. Sad it's only the first gen pokemon but they're the ones everyone recognizes so fair I guess.

Truth be told I’d rather get a Creature with some motorcycle + devilslut graphic. I’m no Spencer Barton out there to get all the flip tricks. I’m lucky if I ever get a couple.

I guess this beats the usual screaming hand graphics by a little.
Im too dumb to figure out how to make this drawing my profile pic.

Shit I’d be down for a Magikarp. Wouldn’t try for them all though…

I can see SC cleaning up with this series. Seems like right place, right time.

Maybe Primitive blew the wad on all the other licenses recently, does seem fitting for them to have had their teeth in this one.

I mostly don't like how the pokemon are one solid colour. Otherwise I'm pretty indifferent to this as I am with most things happening in the skateboarding industry these days.
