The expanded canteen and the united shit is so awful. Funny thing is, if Donovan didn't have a shit fit, I wouldn't have followed this thread or noticed what was going on at all. Probably would have stuck with the position that Berra is a dork, but harmless.

I don't blame him on the Scientology tip still, as far as I have read, Scientology is basically an extortion scam where most of the members are victims rather than perpetrators

I'm sure this is definitely the case.  Even within Evangelical Christianity (which I had alot of experience with growing up) there was this HUGE Prosperity Movement within the church where they taught that God wanted everyone to be super rich.  They taught this while simultaneously teaching that the Church should get at least 10% of your total income (my parents still do this...which is FUCKED).  They encouraged and supported conservative fiscal policies that promoted big business because they knew a huge portion would coming their way.

I can guarantee Scientology encourages their members to be as financially successful as possible without considering any moral or ethical business practices because they will get a huge chunk of it.

i'll give you the executive summary...

berra announces the unified program
everyone on the 1st couple of pages says its cool idea
he says the shops who sign up will be core and important
then we find out hes trying to charge shops $600 a year for a simple directory listing,
now they too can be labeled core and important by the berrics, awesome! 
then come to find out that he wants some ridiculous amount of money to run actual ads.
he wasn't upfront about any of it, he tried to make it sound like he was helping out the small shops but really helping himself to some of their money.
this rubs everyone the wrong way and all hell breaks loose
this is followed by a bunch of posts about scientology and berra hate
people begin to question his motives and his agenda which is pretty much, money
so he releases another video explaining it more thoroughly followed by koston telling everyone to go fuck their faces
people understand it but doesn't change the shit he said/did, plus now everyone knows kostons a dick too
i might be off with the order of events on this one but then the berrics announces that west 49, the canadian version of zumiez as one of its "core" and "important" shops....talk about a kick in the nuts to all the shops that signed up already for his core program.   
more hate and bitching continue of all things berra and berrics
people ask more valid questions followed by more berra/scientology hate
he or one of his followers show up to defend himself but refuses to answer the tough questions.
this goes on for a while until berra get pissed that theres a fake berra posting on slap
donovan strain starts tweeting(i can't believe i just typed that) threats and how hes going to release pals personal info.
but of course no one really gives a rat ass and his bluff gets called.
thats when berra or whoever called up slap and out of nowhere, some admin shows up and deletes the celebrity centre acct.
so in true slap fashion, more fake accounts emerge, namely dudes who follow donovans tweets(again, i can't believe i had to type that)
then more berrics hate threads pop up, more craziness ensues so the threads are merged into one and here we are. 


the bitchfest has died down some but none of what berra(and koston, he doesn't get a free pass) are trying to pull will ever be forgetton by anyone for a long while.  theres no way shops around the country haven't gotten word on what the real deal and the real deal is simple, thye want your money but they were trying to be sneaky and unhanded about getting it.  helping shops out by charging $600 for a simple listing is all sorts of wrong no matter how you slice it.

I mean AND ....if west 49 ends up on the site as a core fucking store I will never ever ever ever visit the berrics again... or buy alien or girl or anything they are involved with.  EVER... West 49 put many many Canadian shops out of business, I am talking ones that were around over a decade, some 2 decades and some just a few years, but they were all skate shops that meant so much to the community, the skaters, the workers and the owners. If west 49 is core, so is winners and discount brand name stores at the mall.

the sad part is, while the older generation of skaters care, the younger ones don't.
i just had a kid come in here and tell me how all the kids from my neighborhood have been going down to rival to buy stuff.
from what i heard, rival is going out of business anyway and turning into the 2nd boundless location.   
oh well.  i'll keep doing what i'm doing and hope it all works out.

if any shop in NYC signs up for that shit, not only would they be getting butt raped by the berrics but they'll get boycotted too.  we don't have that many but the majority of shops within NYC are core shops and everyones attitude here is pretty much like, fuck off.  not even just skaters, but everyone.     
on the reals though, if an shop here signed up it would be the first time in my entire life i would be ashamed to claim new york.

this whole situation is pitiful, really.

most skaters dont give a shit about any thing but skateboarding. as soon as they hear anything about politics or business, they run away. when they hear anything negative about something they like, most jump back like we're attacking them and don't bother looking into details/the actual situation.

this goes beyond skateboarding and happens in all aspects of life, but like it was said... its just sad seeing it happening before your eyes.

the closest thing i have to a mall shop is called "empire" (theres only 2) and theyr responsible for closing my friend's shop. now my friend manages the "empire" thats replaced his shop. its pretty sad.

people should go to skateparks and post signs against the berrics and any mall shops, for all the kids and their parents to see. some pictures and maybe a paragraph somewhere explaining why mall shops are destroying local skateboard scenes and what not.

also talking to the kids and parents about this shit is really important. when you see a kid or whatever with a mall'ed out setup, dont just frown upon him/her, that wont change anything... talk to them about it and try to enlighten them.

whats even sadder is all the skaters supporting these mall'ed out shops. with one or two exceptions, everyone on the berrics "team" is a well based, non struggling skateboarder. if anything those guys should be supporting some small shop from where they came from, or something of the sort. i have no idea if they are generally good people or not, but god fucking damn it are most of them stupid. even if they are doing it just kus berra is their friend, thats no excuse. the struggling guys have an excuse, but the majority of them dont.

fuck the berrics and everyone on their team. fuck em. i dont give a fuck im going to resent them until things change.

if nothing changes then god fucking damnit am i ever glad i stayed in school all these years.

WELL SAID!!  Most parents would understand the concept of supporting local stores vs. big chains.  Alot of them probably just don't realize that there is even an alternative to the mall shops.  If the skateboarders in the know will take a few minutes from skating at the skatepark and have a quick chat with the parents who are bringing their young kids, I think we could really help things.

I've heard that a bunch of those dudes on the Berrics Canteen team were under the impression that Berra was paying them for it...just like Active or whoever else they would've rode for.  Then AFTER Berra released the video with all of em in it...he told em he wasn't paying them anything.  He basically took it as a favor from them for giving skateboarding the Berrics.
