So they signed up with that Metal Mullisha marketing firm to not make money? Do they sell tons of ads to break even?
Oh right, it's for the "greater good of skateboarding."
Only the IRS and Koston know the largest source of his income, it may or may not be Berrics, but he must be making something from it.
You're missing it, brah. Just because a business is in it for profit doesn't mean it's making money. An extended period of investment before you go "into the black" is par for the course. The Berrics sells some ads and some tees. Is it so hard to believe that it wouldn't offset:
- Staffing costs (filmers, editors, maintenance, whatever it was Donovan was doing, web developers)
- Hosting/bandwidth fees
- Rent on the Building
- Graphic design
- The marketing firm you mentioned, which wouldn't be cheap
Seems like a whole lot of fucking ads, boards, and tees to push this baby into profitability, don't you think? And how many Berrics United accounts do you think they sold, after all of that backlash. Five? Ten?
Precisely. Everybody assumes that because Koston's getting paid by Nike that he's got more money than God, but no one realizes that he's still just an employee of every company he rides for, and thus is still a medium-sized fish, financially speaking. If you're a company owner, you're saddled with all the business risk, but you are also blessed with regular amounts of profit if your company is successful. The Berrics, for all it's viewers, as a business is still an internet based entertainment channel and has no substantial way of earning money. Internet advertising is pittance when compared to print, thus all the Newspapers that are going out of business as advertisers move from paper to web. Don't you guys know this? It's in all the papers...
I wish it were more like the old days when there was less shit talking and more fistfights. I would have loved to have heard the stories of how Koston just punched Olson in the face. Kinda like when Billy Pepper punched Phelps and then was banned from Thrasher forever.
