Title: Board Size & Shoes Size
Post by: Trilogy on February 28, 2024, 01:56:08 AM
Hi, I am currently riding 8.3 board with some 149 Indys and I usually wear 10.5 size shoes.

I am also 5.81 feet and 169 pounds.

I mainly skate curbs, manual pads, some gaps. Not much of a transition skater.

What board size you guys ride and what is your shoe size?

Also, what is the ideal truck size in your opinion?

I just want to compare my setup with you guys and see if there any relation with feet size and board size ( must be ).

But is there an ideal board size relatively with your shoe size?

Shoes 8 and board 8.25
176cms and last time I checked 81kg

7.5 shoes and 8.25 decks with 8.25 trucks

5.8 feet and 155 lbs

I don't think there is a ideal correlation between shoe and deck size. I can do all my tricks on a 8.9 deck too, it just takes a bit more effort and the ankles hurt more in the evening.

so, your shoes are larger than your board?

Thats crazy!!!

There's definitely a moderate correlation, because too tiny of shoes or too big of shoes on certain widths will negatively affect your ability to do tricks & balance correctly.

That said, depends on skating style. If not flipping your board, you could go bigger for stability/carving/grinds. Or go smaller for flipping/tech/manuals.

8.5 (sometimes 8.3) boards with 11 - 11.5 shoe around 5' 10"

That’s nothing. I wear size 14, skate an 8.5 with 159s lol. When I see stuff like this on here it makes me feel better about sucking 😂

Feels like I’m trying to skate on the hardest difficulty setting. Makes me wish I was average height sometimes.

And I’m size 12
Height: 6’-3”
Weight: 225
Skate: 8.38”
Terrain: ledges, flatbars, manual pads, transition (all-around basically)

Polar P2 on 5.8s
9-9.5 shoes...8.5 for CTAS
5'11"/225 lbs
skatepark: banks, ledges, small rails, mini ramps
home: flatground, flatbar
ideal truck size: 148

I skate everything from 8" popsicles to a Krooked Beamer. However, for popsicle boards, I'm torn between the 8.38 AWS/Habitat twin and the 8.3 DLX twin, with Thunder 148s. I'm also experimenting with the two DLX 8.5 shapes and Independents because that's what used to work in the past, and I don't know why I changed shit up. I'm basically the skateboard equivalent of a pansexual.

6’1
215
Size 10
8-8.1-8.25. Nothing wider.
Venture 5.2 hi for 8 and 8.1.
Indy 139’s for 8, 8.1 and 8.25
Venture 5.6 hi for the 8.25 (don’t really like these)
Thunder 148 hi for 8.1 and 8.25 (favourite setup at the moment)

 I rotate trucks fairly often.

Mainly manny pads, low ledges and flip tricks. No gaps, no transitions.

Size 10US on mainly 8.25s (sometimes go with 8.3s and was on 8.5s for a while too)

not comfortable on anything smaller than 8.2 or wider than 8.5, when I was a teen I was only ever on 8.0-8.125 even though I was still the same shoe size back then, but that was when 8s was like the standard everyone was riding so who knows if it really correlates. since I started skating 16 years ago the average board size has been going up, but feel like it's been starting to dip back down a bit?

i am similar to you but i ride 8.38" with 8.25" trucks
shoe size 11. im a little bit taller and heavier than you.
i think you are in a good place.

if you want my dumb opinion, you could probably size down to 8.25" and 8" trucks and you would have a better flip trick game, especially if you were on ventures. your mannys would be more consistent and they are really beefy trucks for slappys. I am riding a setup like this right now and i like it quite a bit.

Anyway - 6'4", max. 205lb, size 13 feet. Mostly 8.125s, sometimes 8.25s and 8.38s. Havent really been down to straight 8 in a while. Switching between 144s and 149s for no particular reason other than hunch and madness.

@Xen stepped up with true honesty the last time this thread came around. i appreciated his scientific approach.

this thread lets me know i’m fat as fuck.
and that i don’t know what i skate.

10-11 shoe size.
5’8”, 180
34”+ waist, not even 30” legs (my inseam is 30 on pants, but my legs are a bit shorter still).
old.

i skate a lot of different setups and don’t know what is best.
this month i’ve been most often on a really old G053 (8.5), thunder 149s, and 55 dragons, or 54 f4 99 classics.
lots of suspicion the setup is too big.

I’d say wheelbase and board length is more critical than width for sure. Also the bigger the wheel the longer your tail is taking to make contact so if you’ve got shorter legs that may be hindering your timing. Dragons are already way easier to roll over pebbles and cracks with so having a 55mm sounds like riding on a big gummy donut. I’d recommend riding the F4’s till they wear down a few mm and that’s when that shape really starts to feel comfy

I have indeed forgotten what inseam was.

that's some deep-dive thinking to get into inseam.  I'm a 34 inseam x 38 waist, 6'3" and top heavy (225).....  I like 14.5 wheelbase so I don't slip out as much, but still want to get a little street.

It looks like I'm about your preference on boards, except I'm taller and heavier, with short legs compared to my torso, haha.

Inseam 30, wheelbase 14.25 max on the normal board. I skated a 13.875 wb recently and it was fine. I'm right handed. Bushing preferences?? Sometimes stock, nut flush. But other times I'll chop the top bushings in half. Mood dependent. The Indy super softs are neat.

-To be completely honest, 8.5 is too big and heavy for my physiology, but I'm too afraid of smaller trucks fucking up my stability and grinds, afraid of thunder trucks too lmao.

-8.5 generally feels quite long too, having long legs doesnt denie the cons, boned airs feels clunky if im not too light.

-thunders and a smaller deck seems like the only way, since I hate indys, but I hate changes when I can't skate everyday, maybe on my vacation I'll fuck with my setup

I have a 32" inseam and find 14.25" wheelbase to be the sweetspot. I skated 14" wheelbases for a really long time but now they feel too short to me. But thinking back on it, I did most of that on Venture Lows. Now that I skate Indy's pretty much exclusively, the slightly longer wheelbase just feels way better. Shoutout to Ben Degros and Professor Schmitt for giving me this knowledge and madness  :P

Size 12 feet
9" antihero deck
159 indy titanium
Nano cubic wheels; (will switch to indy 169 when OG classic wheels arrive in the post).

I wanted to be able to ride an 8.5 board for better flip tricks - but it just doesn't work for me - the board overflips and flips too fast, and I also just don't like landing on a board that feels too small. Part of it is my size, but I think mainly it's because I learned to skate on 10 inch boards as a kid (I'm old). I was tempted to try an 8.75 deck - but I don't need to add board madness to wheel and truck madness. I think I just need to accept 9" works best for me. It's not just the board width, the 9" antihero is longer and has bigger wheelbase than most boards (which just suits my height/leg length).

Gonna need some SSNs to really make sure I’m riding the right shape for my size feet and body.

6’2, 190, 31” inseam (torso gang), 10.5 shoes

Ride anything from an 8.75 up to a 10, but mostly in the 8.75-9 range.
