I'm sure tons of you have sustained ankle injuries. I've sprained mine a few times real bad. But they are so prone to re-injury it sucks.. the littlest thing can stiffen them right up. I'll go a day of skating hard and not hurt them at all... but i can barely walk the next day.
What are things you can do to strengthen your ankles? Or heal them faster? I thought of running but I dont think that will really help? Just soaking them? I dont know, any ideas?
-
Running will definitely not help.
I just stretch them a lot before I skate and after, and over the years I've stepped up to shoes with slightly more support (no more slipper skate for me).
Ankles are the part of the body that were the most poorly designed, from a skate perspective...

Right now i am nursing my ankle back. At first i used a liniment and messaged it on the ankle. That helped with the pain.
My ankle does not hurt anymore, except when I try flip tricks. I can walk, run, and even jump, but kickflips of any kind hurt. I too dont know what to do from this point... ???

When I damaged my ankle badly before my doctor gave me sheet of physiotherapy exercises to strengthen it. I cant remember the exercises specifically, but it was things like repeatedly standing on your tip toes and holding it for a few seconds. And taking your foot off the ground and rolling your foot in a circular motion repeatedly for a minute or two then stretch it for a few seconds in each direction.
There was a whole sheet of stuff like this and I was supposed to do 10 mins a day.

Jump rope is a very good Ankle Strengthening Exercise

A physio rubber band can help strengthen your ankle. Basically you can do exercises with it to help strengthen your ankle...
They look like this: http://tinyurl.com/2eb5ull
Ankle raises help a lot. Stand on the edge of stairs or a ledge/ stairs and lift yourself up and down, over and over again.
And like everyone else says, stretching especially after you skate can help a lot with the stiffness the next day.

I have to do this at least once before I skate. Loosens up my weak ankle right up.

Those are great, but an old bicycle tube does the job just as well, and they're usually more accessible and cheap.
Something that is really good too but is a little harder to come by is running/doing lunges in a shallow pool. My friend just moved into an apartment complex that has one, and I've been using it a lot post-sessions. Less weight on the ankle but helps to utilize the fatigued ligaments and such.

We're talking about ankle care here, not eating... oh, you wrote 'ankles' not 'tongue.'

i've had ankle problems for like 3 years now. That shit is so weird , i just don't get it. I can skate pretty much normally but kickflips hurt like hell so i haven't done a kickflip for a pretty long time. Only when i play skate with someone. One good thing is that it has made me skate switch better.
For example one morning when i was drunk we went to this ledge and i ollied down it for like 8 times. I had bruises and shit everywhere, my hands were really fucked up but my ankles were the only thing that didn't hurt. the fuck.

and the weirdest thing is that i usually skate shoes with better ankle support like those higher nike blazers and shit but this time i went skating with super thin emerica leo lows

expensive.
Stand on a pillow with one foot and try to balance as long possible.

^^ i got one of these for 15 € which equals a couple of dollars... for me it helps only when I do some other stretching exercises too and wearing mid's or hi's... no serious damages for the last 5 years

My ankles are shit... can't skate without industrial strength braces on both feet.
Wanted to add one thing... if your ankles are hurt or weak, swim every chance you get. No impact, lots of resistance, and hopefully lots of scantily clad ladies for all you single dudes. You can go to the Y and possibly eat there!
