What do you mean? The graphics? Look at 'em and decide for yourself. It's just a Zero board with Slave written on it instead of Zero. Figure it out, dude.

-
how are they?
Black Box boards all come from the same place just diffrent company names. Yes the shapes maybe a bit diffrent but the wood is all the same.

-
Thanks for not using the dollar sign, that shit is so stupid.
-
how about the zero shirt with the cash symbol crossed out. give me a break.
slave isn't a racial slur though.
-
mines fuckin sweet...................good concave, the wood i definetly alot like zero or mystery but not exactly the same feel. i know there the same wood but theres something different about them for sure. id ride another one, but im definetly going back to deluxe next
-
Well they have Pat riding for them, so thats going for them......but the name is terrible......blackbox in general is terrible..........they (Jamie) take themselves too seriosly, which results in a shitty, cheesy image....but as is usually the case with with shitty and contrived product it will move thousands of boards....meanwhile things worth supporting will die.....blank boards aren't hurting the industry as much as blitz and blackbox are.
-
More like YOU take yourself too seriously.

I agree about Joe, but how the fuck can you call Black Label shitty?
-
the name is fucking moronic
-
Isn't his name Jon instead of Joe?
-
buying slaves arent sick
-
i am against slave trade
-
Shultz rules. All the guys at our shop are riding Slave decks and say they are really good. I prefer DLX wood, but I'll have to try a Slave and see how it feels just for shits and giggles.
-
the only complaints ive ever had with black box products is that they always fall in the pool about 3 days in.
besides that id say this deck was pretty good
-
funny how so many people swear on deluxe..
-
concave mellow?

Yes.
-
I finally saw some Slave decks and that stuff is super clean. The shapes are more rounded with a good concave which I like. Wasn't too big on the Zero shapes which had a delayed kick(?) nose and tail I believe. Is that right Jaime or is there another term for the Zero shape?

I agree slave is not a racial slur, but it would seem kinda akward to see a brother rockin' a tee with the word SLAVE written real big on it.

I think that's where the $ part of $lave comes in... they're trying to imply slaves to society? Am I right, Jamie?

being black and all i would never purchase anything that says slave on it.

You're from Atlanta?
You've had 2 Chula Vista Avatars this week.
Who's your CV footy connection.
PS. What's the 'and all' after black for?
-
Who did the graphics for the boards/shirts?
-

Not all slaves are or were black obviously. But how fucking dumb do you have to be to realize they mean slave to society and shit? Its not that hard. Open your minds and stop nit picking. You guys are giving yourselves ulcers over the dumbest stuff. If puelo or ricky started a company called slave you guys would be like "man thats so sick, it has such a sick east coast vibe, by slave they mean slave to wallstreet". If someone came into our local shop with some of the kookiest and unreasonable shit you guys say, you'd be laughed out of the shop.

I hear what you're saying, and in my opinion, that's what makes Slave cool, it's controversial and not for everybody. That will make the few people that do like it, like it that much more. But, you could go the 'black power' route and tell your mom you're wearing it because you're pissed that the black man is a slave to the white devil...and this how you deal with it. By provoking thought.

I actually really like the design/artistic direction of $lave, but i would honestly feel weird rockin' a shirt that said "$lave" on it, despite it being clear, at least to me, that it's not referencing black slavery, but because some more ignorant people wouldn't understand the message, and when seeing it would assume i think i feel like i'm a "slave" when they'd most probably say that i have "no idea what it's like being a slave." oh well, i don't have money for skate clothes anyway. rent rules... speaking of which, jamie, want to hook up a SLAP brother with a job?
-
I'm surprised anyone read anything racial into $lave... it's like when people write Micro$oft... it's a jab at corporately-run society. At least that's how I read it.
I dig the board graphic with Rumsfeld done up as a fang toothed monster.

A former slave giving you heat about your shirt? Where do you live?
Send in your resume or if you're talking about a warehouse job, come on down and apply.
I think there's an email address on the BB site.

That's Ben's intention, but I think people are referring to how some people that aren't in the same frame of mind as us might take it.

That is why I dig what Horton and Black Box have done with this new brand. It redefines the term 'slave' and, as Jamie asserts, it provokes thought (for me, it provokes thought about how humans are living their lives in the 21st century). Anyone who knows Horton's art will know that it is nothing if not thought-provoking. And thank you to the dude who acknowldedged that all slaves were and are not of African descent - the first slaves in America were actually poor, white English folk.
I have to admit that $lave just further convinces me that Black Box is a distro house with integrity and soul (not in the religious sense).
