Who is the best ledge skater of all time?
Extra credit: what is the best ledge trick done of all time?
-
PJ
-
Me
-
andy macdonald IMO
-
jesus
-
Pepe?
Sanch?
PJ?
Carroll?
Wenning?
-
the best ledge trick ever done is tiago's ss bs ts at macba
-
Kalis said he once did a 360 flip front crook nollie bs flip out, and fred gall
-
My vote is Puig. SSKFBSTS hard way shuvit out.

Yeah, probably. Between the trick he chose, how high he popped, how long he slid it, and how perfectly he did it, its hard to claim anything else.
Best ledge skater ever is Wenning. Not only did he do hard tricks perfectly, he also really put a lot of thought into his tricks.
Other honorable mentions in that category:
Tim O'Connor
Bobby DeKeyzer
Henry Sanchez
Rob Welsh
I could probably go on for a while here...
Edit: since he might go overlooked, Danny fuckin' Garcia.
-
wenning, welsh, and out of modern skaters probably suciu, bobby dk, tiago off the top of my head. will marshalls pretty good too, but would like to see more non insta clips
-
Carlos Ribeiro too! Fuck I knew I'd keep coming up with names.
-
I hate to say that the best ledge skater is probably felipe gustavo or shane oniell, so I'll just say Its bobby d :)
yea I gotta agree with the sw back tail heard round the world
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeWhqWxsVi8
-
I wouldn't put Felipe or Shane in this category. As amazing as they are, Their main skill seems to be doing tough flip tricks into and out of basic slides and grinds. I could never do it, but a part of me feels like their tech skating is more about their control over flip tricks than their ability to lock into a ledge in wild ways. Is that a weird way to look at it?

Don't forget Carroll and Koston
-
I always thought that the bs 180 fakie fs 5-o revert by A.P. was an outstanding ledge trick.
-
Every person named above is valid but I can't believe no one has mentioned Mike Mo yet, or maybe I can believe it. I get what Gipper said about flips in and out not defining the metric but those guys are good at what they do.
-
personal current favorite, lesser seen ledge clip has to be Rob Welsh's noseslide to b/s nosebluntslide (on one of them, the front truck seems to catch the edge):
https://instagram.com/p/Bi8AJX-FwGN/
where and how do you even start approaching that?...
also obviously Daewon deserves a mention, on purely technical terms, his 'Second To None' part is fucked
-
good luck coming up with a more difficult one than the bs 180 nose grind switch big heel out .
-
Mike mo fakie front crook Tre flip. Still hasn't been done again
-
Daewon, Henry, Guy, Creager, Koston, Javier, jesus , PJ, Wenning, MJ, TX, Lucas, Prod, CK, O'neill, Suciu, TOM ASTA.
In the style section MC, Gino, Arto, Kalis, Welsh, Ave, Kenny, Appleyard, Antwuan

That's a skatepark trick now, crezy huh?
I vote tiago for craziest trick.
Im gonna have to add Ronnie creager into the mix. And p rod

pj, tom asta, and bobby dk

Mike mo fakie front crook Tre flip. Still hasn't been done again
Still haven't seen any footage of anyone else doing it.
I know Slap likes to hate on Sewa, but the dude has done some insane tricks. Hardflip bs nosegrind late front foot flip out.
Youness should be mentioned here as well.

Flo Marfaing deserves to be in the discussion.
co-sign on Creager and Smolik as well. Surprised no one’s mentioned Biebel yet.
-
^^ Alex Carolino too
-
Wenning is one of my all time favourites, but if we are talking difficulty of tricks i wouldn't put him on the list. PJ, Felipe Gustavo, Sewa, Mark Suicu, Shane O'Neill, are all on another level of tech/difficulty when it comes to ledge tricks. And one of Tiago's many switch back tails or switch back tail variations is certainly up there for singular best ledge trick ever done.
-
Fred Gall always and Bobby Worrest
-
Wow did anyone see that one gustav tonnesen just posted? Back 180 fakie 5-0 fakie fs flip out. Incredible.

This has to be the stupidest fucking post ever. I’ll never respect anything you post ever again.
Wenning’s shit is insanely difficult and done perfectly. Switch back 180 to bs nosegrind pop out early was easy? Fakie bs 5-0 to front shove out in the middle of the ledge has ever been repeated?
Along with that, yeah, balancing a switch back nosegrind for 10 feet then popping out early may not have a ton of moving parts, but its way fucking harder than your favorite pro’s flick and pray flip to grind.
You disgust me.

I've said Mike mo's trick hadn't been done before and the same guy responded with that video. I then pointed out it's a varial flip and never got a response from him. I'll see you in the next "best ledge trick ever" thread and we can repeat this little waltz of ours
-
i cant really think of anything beating tiago's sw backtail at macba, or his ledge game in general. you cant deny that wenning had his reign, though. he definitely helped push the balancing grinds and doing tricks out against the ledge trend. stenger was more of a manny guy, but i remember this trick having a big impact on me at the time.
https://youtu.be/nT2akB4c5sE?t=3m5s
i know its been done since and possibly before, also i think someone mentioned puig doing it switch, but stenger had such crazy board control and did it so proper. his front 5-0 three flip out in the middle of the ledge also stuck out to me, but i cant find it on youtube
-
I'm going with Lucas, Suciu, and JB. While not the most tech, they do extremely difficult tricks and look great doing them.
-
pj for ledges or flat.
-
BRIAN EMMERS
SMOLIK
WENNING
PATRICK JOHN LADD
MARC JOHNSON
DAEWON SONG
PAUL RODRIGUEZ
-
dekeyzer purple part solidified he's the best ledge skater in the game right now. there is not one weakness. he has taken speed, tech, taste, creativity, length, and NBD's to another level from every stance, front & backside.
-
BRIAN EMMERS
First name I thought of when I saw this thread.
While on the topic of underdogs for this thread, Photo era Pops was really progressive.
-
Shane is the best ledge skater ever, isnt very close either. PJ is absurdly overrated and didnt use 1/4 his potential. Carlos, Tj Rogers, prod, marc johnson, DAEWON!! Trent mcclung, jp Souza, brandon biebel, miles Silva, tom asta, Diego too
-
No one said ENRIQUE LORENZO!!??? Him, Sanchez, Gillet, PJ, TX and Mariano were pioneers
-
Big fan of Stevie, Brian Wenning, and the others that were mentioned previously. Tiago is on some other shit in 2018, super excited to see that guy continue to blossom, he is still a youngster, relatively speaking. Some other dudes that I think were inspirational to me growing up as a skateboarder preoccupied with ledges includes Richard Mulder and Anthony Correa. I love Richard's trick selection and style and how Anthony lands out of grinds (he never really tic-tacs, just kind of swerves).

Lol where did i say it was easy you fool? And yeah wenning doing a 10 foot long switch back nose grind pop out is very fucking hard, but if your gonna try and say a front feeble laser flip is easier then your tripping. Obviously not a visually pleasing trick. But its fact imo. Also i said in that post wenning is one of my favourites, so who's my favourite pro thats doing the flick and pray? Sorry for personally attacking you by saying i dont think wenning does the hardest ledge tricks. I hope someday you can suck his dick for real

^^^ can’t tell if trolling or actually doesn’t know Gino’s stance..

Keeping on the theme of Tiago, I still can't get over this bs tail either at 2:01. His switch big spin bs tail on it in that DC part was amazing as well.

Anybody who does a front feeble laser flip ON A LEDGE deserves to be taken behind a barn and shot. We said best ledge skater, not most circusy. Part of being “the best ledge skater” has to include trick selection.

Also, looking through the posts and damn I overlooked alot of people. Probably alot more being over looked too.
Russ millgan absolutely belongs on the list.
I don't think he's been mentioned? But with all the PJ mentions you have to add gallant, imo.
Glad stenger was mentioned.
For technically advancing ledge skating in the present, hard to say Shane O'Neill is not the best currently.

Shane does to some extent. You brought some decent examples up. When I think of Wenning I think of tricks like switch Pupecki grinds, fakie b/s 5-0’s perfectly balanced popped into and out of the middle of the ledge and with perfect balance (can’t think of anybody else who does that one), balanced fakie bs nosegrind to switch heel out. Some flip tricks for sure, but more of a focus of how he gets into and grinds, locks into them, balances them, and pops out of them.
Its like a “pure” ledge skater thing. I can’t think of any wild flip tricks he can do or do into or out of tricks, but somehow he takes simple elements and does them as perfectly as imaginable. He’s bot the most tech ledge skater the way Shane can be, but to me being a great ledge skater isn’t just about how tech your ledge tricks are. If that were the case ledge skating would have peaked in like ‘92 with the wild curb combos. But to me, there are a lot of important elements to ledge skating that aren’t about how tech it is. How do theu get in or out, how long do they slide, how well its balanced, how good do the intangibles about their style show through...all of that matters to me. Shane may not have been the best example of a dude who isn’t like that because there are some examples of it, but I still like Wenning and his whole mindset and style more than Shane’s though.
Edit: think of it this way- to switch 360 flip into a noseblunt you need an amazing switch 360 flip, to switch heel out of a fakie nosegrind you need a perfect fakie nosegrind.

Wow...pretty fucking dumb thing to say,Mr.teacher!!!
Shane Is Good at flipping his Board into Basic slides/grinds ?what kind of bullshit is this?
Sw 360flip nosebluntslide halfcab flip
(Nosebluntslide Is basic to you?)
Nollie back heel fakie nosegrind sw heel
(Fakie nosegrind Is basic to you?)
What about bigspin fakie 5-0 halfcab flip?
...Is a fakie 5-0 basic to you?
Whats „locking into a ledge wild ways“?please explain it.
Yeah...cause i‘m Stupid bla bla bla...don’t

Wenning NEVER did a single trick more technical than shane!

Brad Cromer has a really good ledge game but then again his skating as a whole is super solid.

Haha it's all good, just a funny thing between two strangers on the internet. Believe me, I wanna see Flo do one so bad, each new video part of his I hope for it. I wonder if kids will appreciate how insane it is when it happens, like how much time it took for skating to catch up to that Mike mo part.

The thing about that one too is the fact that he makes it look so fucking good. The way he flicks it and catches it out of the grind is so cool

Watching that sls London warm up run on his insta, he deserves so much more than Santa Cruz dude is still better and more consistent than 90% of pros and gets like no shine. Skateboarding is stupid right now. Most teams are mediocre with one heavy hitter and I think it’s ruining skating. Let’s get a best dude on each team thread going.

Mariano, Howard, and Koston in mouse

Wenning has always been my favorite for the reasons mentioned by Gipper and others, but also out of irrational New Jersey pride. Jersey is fertile ground for ledge skaters. That's probably why you can catch Asta at the Princeton Fountain seemingly every weekend.
Other than that, Dekeyzer is fucking incredible and I don't think Austyn gets enough credit for his ledge game.

I think this part made me want to skate ledges more than any other part in my childhood.

Old Wade.

For a really serious answer in this order:
1. Guy Mariano
2. Henry Sanchez
3. Brian Wenning
Those 3 are legends and the majority of their skating is ledges. I feel Jesus Fernandez is up there but he's not as legendary as those 3, so I gave up listing more, it's too hard to say. There's plenty of legendary ledge skaters but they're also legends skating other stuff...like Chris Cole and Eric Koston for example.
Picking the best ledge trick of all time is too broad. Techest, longest, stylish, nose grind, back tail, nose blunt? You'd have to do categories. Maybe what video has the best ledge skating of all time, Mouse?

I’ll also add Brian Lotti if he hasn’t already been mentioned...

Damn... Good topic..

Jesus Fernandez
