Nice, haven't bought a Trasher issue for years (the mag is quite expensive in Europe), but i'll pull the trigger on this one.
-
Sick flick! Skateboarding needs some east coast grime in it right now. Shit is getting soft like a day at the beach.
-
Hell yeah. Sick ass cover too.
-
cover worthy? photo is cool though
-
damn thats so rad. his first thrasher cover? really?
-
hell yeah, mike heikkila’s first cover ever too

Swear he already back noseblunted this for a DC ad.

Unkookable.

I think so. It seems like it's going to be an east coast issue. Kalis, doing a noseblunt, at a philly plaza, with a fisheye, in camo, at night, just screams classic east coast skating nostalgia. I'm glad they left the cover with just the Thrasher logo and the headline. So fresh and so clean.

This.
Between this classic and the Gonz cover, Thrasher has been on a “classic skater” tear lately, and I love it!

AMAZING cover!
Kalis is the TRUTH!

I'm not even a huge Kalis fan and I didn't even fully experience that era, but I love this cover. Good work.

damn, was it really 16 years ago that kalis had this transworld cover?! pretty funny how those cover stories could still play today. daewon - still killing it. zero - just finished touring across the country. boulala - still...somewhere out there.

a kalis tre flip would be cover worthy, ill cover hell yeah DGKALIS

A cover's worthiness shouldnt always depend on the difficulty of the trick. This is a cover worthy photo, without a shadow of a doubt. Props to one of the realest.

agreed, but in the current skate climate this cover choice is more reminiscent of lance dawes' 90's slap artfulness than thrasher's punk rock gnarliness.

true, true. i do like the photo, but i guess the fact that he already did it backside kinda left me underwhelmed.

A- What the fuck are those jeans?
B- It's dope how you can see the DC logo on his front shoe. They were the coolest shit out around this time.
C- Stevie lost a little skate cred with his skate boutique opening up right by Stratosphere in Atlanta. It seemed like he was trying to be some hip hop celebrity for awhile. But he always kept it real in the streets. That Chocolate commercial line is too good, the music is so fitting.
D- DGK went from being weird to being cool to being kind of wack. I don't know what I think of them now.
-
Thanks guys. It was a surprise that's for sure!!
👊🏽
-
fucking stoked on this!
DGKALIS, you got a better version of the cover you can post up?
-
I saw a dude skating a park in my city two weeks ago, and he looked so much like DGKalis. Like doppleganger status. Then I saw him kickflip over a Jersey barrier from this tiny ass bump.
After that, I was no longer sure if it was just a doppleganger.
But for real, I love this man. This is sick.

Pretty simple jeans for Stevie, that’s what they are. Dude’s been wearing some crazy shit in the past.
-
And quite common jeans for that era.
But yeah, that is a sick cover. Better than most (all?) rail covers over the last 15+ years.
-
Those look like carpenter jeans. You can tell by the large back pockets and utility pockets along the right leg. They were popular from the mid 80s to early 2000s.
-
Thank you professor.

Same , it’s cheap here but it typically just open one at the store while in line to flip through and steal the sticker packs
-
20 years overdue, but highlights Kalis' timelessness.
I know Thrasher is all about who skates the biggest handrail, so I appreciate when different aspects of skating get highlighted.
-
Josh Kalis just keeps climbing the greatest of all time rankings. Just representing integrity in street skating through and through. Good on Thrasher for recognizing that style and great photography shouldn't always take a back seat to the biggest rail or most interesting architecture skated.

Thank you for those words. 🙏🏼

Congratulations DGKalis, must confirm that all those hours spent in the street are still worth it. Props!

Damn thats the first Thrasher I ever owned. That cover just caused a flood of memories. I remember him smoking a blunt w/ bloodshot eyes on page 1 of the interview. Talking about getting robbed and shot at while skating in philly. The nollie front heel switch manny 180 out w/ multiple frames in the same photo. Switch heel over the picnic table
At the time, my 12 year old brain had difficulty processing such rawness.
-
kalis is the man.
its crazy, he is doing simple shit now but he is just dope, doesnt matter what he is doing, I feel like watching a kalis line and getting ultra hyped to skate
great photo btw
-
I love Kalis but the footy of that cover is absolutely disappointing.

I was so confused about that Boulala article as a kid. I thought some photographer was actually hiding in the bushes trying to catch this mythical skater that also endorsed Vans and Flip.
