Title: Photography question
Post by: LeeMarvin on September 05, 2018, 10:20:45 AM
Not sure if this is the place for this, but I知 wanting to start taking photos/shooting video (nothing serious, just as a hobby to maybe make a zine/youtube clips or something) and I知 looking for a fairly simple and affordable camera. So far, I知 kinda into the Canon T6i because it痴 cheap and I like the video quality. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for a camera along those lines?

quality of camera generally shouldnt matter, shoot in manual mode and test all the functions, only way to learn

Just start documenting with any camera you can get your hands on.

Save your money and get a t3i, canon hasn't meaningfully improved that line since then. buy a decent 50mm lens, any cheap 8mm fisheye, and some yongnuo flashes and you're about as good as you're gonna get without spending 10x as much.

this pretty much. although personally 50mm is a bullshit focal length (for skating) i'm more a fan of the 24-70 instead if you can afford it.

as said above: get a T3i. Don't even bother with lenses until you know enough to know what you want.

This is exactly what I was looking for starting this thread. Thanks.

On t3i's and other crop sensor bodys a 50mm lens translates to about 80mm which is very tight for many skating scenarios. It would be much more versatile on a full frame. 50mm on crop is fine as a portrait lens or longer prime but definitely limiting if its your only lens.

Start making with whatever you have and focus on exploring your creativity/style. If you can't do a lot with a little, don't expect to do a lot with a lot.

Also, most important...

...

have fun with it!
