The first skater owned brand, their wood and shapes are top notch. Would love to see them on KOTR. Maybe I live in a bubble (also known as Michigan), but I don't feel like The Label gets their due. Label Killls!

Always saw the Lucero bars decks in 86, had a "street thing" in 87. Some guys gave me any my boy shit about liking Lucero (cuz he wasn't Hawk, Cab etc). Anyway, we both rode a shit ton of Black Label decks over the years. My dude had 3 label tats. Unfortunately my dude died last year, was my longest skate friend. His wife has a crazy collection of label decks now. Anyway I really enjoyed the late 90s early 2000s. Speyer , Hensley, Grosso, with the young bucks too. Even Vallely too, almost forgot for a sec. God save the label!
-
Label Kills is one of the most underrated videos. I still ride their wood regularly, its top notch.
-
This is my favorite part:

Yes! I watch Luceros part often before i go skate, im a big fan of curbs.

My favorite company hands down...
411 12 industry section introduced me to the Label, Gagne, Grecos buddy (forgot his name), The Vandals, n I was instantly hooked. At the time people around my area were getting popular companies like Flip, Girl, Etc. but for some reason I was hooked on the Label. Even rode for Pharmacy Boardshop while Herman, Matt Allen, n everyone else were riding shop decks, I just picked the Label boards off the wall n skated those claiming Pharmacy.
Met Wes Lott n Alfaro through CASL contests too (Alfaro was actually tryin to get on Zero initially) then Label Kills came out which killed it introducing me to Jason Adams n the devil goin down to Georgia. That video kinda taught me to just skate everything u could put wheels on.
Now I live in Black Label country (OC/HB) n was stoked to find Lucero shops at my work on occasions n him n Grosso have a good relationship with my local shop (Jokers), laugh that at work I can sling boneless chicken breast n have a short Q n A with him about the Post Office Curb, pickin up Franky Villani at the time, n wonderin on the whereabouts of Alfaro...

Where the fuck is Alfaro?

I've been itching to by a Black Label lately, I love the fact that Lucero is still running it out of his garage.
I always considered Black Label an almost pre-Anti Hero (before anti hero was around, obviously). Not just because they had Cardiel, but Skip Pronier, Coco Santiago (I proudly had/still have his board at my house), Brian Chung, Upson, Shawn Martin. That was a sick and burly ass team.
-
This 411VM part is great. I bought so many Label decks during this era (before they went to China).

Wish I knew, when I asked Lucero that question a couple years ago he shook his head n said he wished Alfaro was skatin more...
Nostalgic for this...

Label Kills was probably the most influential/nostalgic video for me. I couldn't do flip tricks as a kid and was super into punk rock so that video was everything I was looking for. Jason Adam's part is my all time favorite video part.
-
Black Label was pretty hot in my area in the early naughts because they had just put out Label Kills and Black Out around the time the internet came around here, so those were easy P2P downloads right next to This Is Skateboarding, Sorry / Really Sorry or PJWHL. My friends and I were hyped on those, especially the soundtrack. A lot of us had Black Label decks because they felt like the most honest product to have around that time, although they were poorly distributed and hard to get in France. One of my friends in particular skated 8.25 Black Labels with no grip tape (his choice, I know) for a while when everyone else was stuck on 7.5's and 7.75 and people would give him so much shit for his 'vert board'. I don't recall ever getting one myself, but I did skate a second hand Six Gun at one point.
-
i skated a shit tonne of label boards, black out was my favourite vid for years. fully back the Label!

Their wood has changed several times though ??? While I worked for their distro they went from PS, to BBS for quite a while, to something else now. Only switched from BBS in the last couple years.
Black Label is a funny one. Completely random team throughout their whole existence, and a consistent cycle of putting out one series of awesome graphics and then 3 seasons of stuff that ends up on the sale rack.
Lucero seems rad. It's sad to see Black Label on it's last legs. I've been noticing the Canadian distro only keeps a few graphics in stock for the whole country, and it looks like 3 boards in each stack. That means they're probably selling less than 50 - 100 decks in a whole yeah in Canada. Ouch.
-
i had a label board not too long ago and literally everytime i went out skating someone would go "holy shit is that a blacklabel? that's fucking rad." it was a jason adams board. i have a hensley board quened up to be skated too. god save da labull.

In this interview with Knox Godoy he mentioned Alfaro was in prison with him. I think Alfaro was dealing with some pretty heavy drug issues. Hope he managed to get clean.

For real Black Label was huge when I started skating. I loved watching Black Out, that Ragdoll part is a classic for me. I had quite a few of their boards and they were all great. Back in Black is their best video IMO, Such good parts from everyone, great soundtrack, the friends section and of course Alfaros epic closing part. Still watch that shit on the regs

Label Kills is Godly. That Jason Adams part is still untouchable, and probably the greatest opener to a video ever.
-
who tf rides for the label now. im assuming some hesh nigga
-
I need one
-
Two decks I had really early on were black label decks. One was a Matt Hensley drawn deck I wish I would have kept and the other was just a black and yellow never forget deck
-
Got my first label back in 99/00 or something like that after like 5 years of Maple/Girl boards. My all time favorite board. Haven't skated anything like it since.
-
I found Blackout at Goodwill for only $2 awhile back which was a welcomed surprise, such a classic video...

-
Black Out still holds up. Glad they're still around although I hardly see them out in the wild. Hassan still killing it.
-
But really, what did ever happen to Alfaro? Behind Jason Adams, he had my favorite part in Label Kills.
-
Who would be a good fit to save the label ? they need some new blood now that auby left .
-

A $54 zumiez board

Is grossos shape on black label the same as his on AH?

I guess he's been on and off a bad road with drugs, Lucero mentioned in in an older interview somewhere. Got to see him live a a Label Demo back in '03, straight ripper.
-
thinking about getting back on black label decks...the combo of Adams and Lucero is just to strong a influence on my wallet!
does anyone know who makes their decks? is it Schmitt?
-
BBS pretty sure.
-
Seconded on BBS
Label for life, I’ve got a label tattoo as well
Label kills was my first skate video
-
sweet...
my first video was Wheels of Fire (yes im old)...so always been loyal to Santa Cruz. Only got back into skating after about 10 years off and although i'm still into NHS...im starting to get over the quality of their decks. I know BBS has a good rep, so Black Label might be a good next deck
-
i have never had a bad label board
label kills and always will
-
I think Lucero over the years has had at least 5 riders that couldnt skate as well as hes capable himself.
-
i have never had a bad label board
label kills and always will
i watched Label Kills again last night, been ages since i watched it...Adams is so good he just flows so well...but i had forgotten about Vallely's part and that ollie over the gap at baldy...was he the first to do it? i think i remember sometime in the early 90's someone doing it??
-
Only warped board I ever had was a black label. But i wanted to like it.

My first non kmart/world industries board was a black label. Seems like their heyday was a bit before my time but they have always seemed sick to me.
-
all the auby decks were so good. i wish they would still press some of those shapes.
label kills!
-
Does Ryan Maddox ride for label? His curb eye view photos are rad.
-
My dead homeboy had those Black Label flames tattooed on both arms.
I used to have a bunch of Black Label hoodies, don't ever see them anymore.
-
I’ve had this elephant label beanie for 15 years and still wear it from time to time. I was in a record shop not long ago a dude was wearing the same one in a different color. Tripped me out a bit.
Black Out was always on daily growing up. Has two friends who absolutely wrecked themselves because one was massively inspired by Jub and the other Ragdoll.
-
Lance Mountain should be on Black Label. He already hangs out a lot with John anyways lol
-
Always thought this part was underrated

Agree on that Pat Smith part.

Anybody know a good shop to get some Black Label boards from? None of the shops round me carry em anymore and I can’t find any on Parade, rather support a brick & mortar shop if I can.

I think of Lucero Label Kills part every time I goof around at crowded skate park.

Order directly from them or ask if your local shop will carry them. Props to you for looking to support your local shop.

Jokers in Huntington Beach.
-
SoCal got a huge drop, that’s where I got mine
-
I fucking hate you guys, fuck my countrys politics, i envy you so much, getting a label board over here is fucking IMPOSSIBLE (i live in Mexico)
had one Alfaro board, one of the best ever in my life time, really good boards
-
The quality local shops seem to have them like Jokers, with orders hand delivered by John Lucero himself, and others around LA but I don't see too many in other places, even though I would think there would be some around. The dealers page on the website only has a few places listed though.
We get some in Australia, but nothing like the bigger brands who seem to have much wider distribution overall.
Maybe if anyone is trying to track some down, ask John or email him for local places that might order them, if you cannot order from the website.

He had a guest board on the label not too long ago. I had 3 of them and it literally was one of my alltime favourite boards. If he ever joins the label I would be so hyped if they made another run of the board.
-
Just got one of these

I would have coped the X-2 but I'm not going to get caught rolling around with another man's name on my board
-
surprised no one has brought up Adam Alfaro yet. For some reason I was really fucking with this dude, maybe cause it was 2006-2007 skating with all the tie dye and pysh rock, but i remember being hyped on this dude and then he kinda just went away
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7O5KNaMdoY
he also had a clip in Time To Shine(which imo is the best Transworld video)

If someone can find the sequence of him dropping in on the huge paver quarterpipe In Barcelona and immediately going into an Ollie down a set of stairs that would be cool. I will try to find again. I think he was wearing Vans slip ons and a member’s only thrift store come up. Shit was tight.

The Jub thread made me think of this video 'cause it's the first one I saw him in

Had this on heavy rotation in the early 2000's. It was a hype video that I could relate to more than the tech and gnarr stuff that was going on back then

alfaro blacklisted himself by stealing someones ipod at an Ipath meeting or some shit right when timberland bought it. after that he was never seen again. hope that 4g ipod mini was worth it lol dude was actually kinda sick.

Holy shit, did not know that. If that's legit, wow. I was wondering what happened to him, I used to skate the same park with him all the time in 2001-2003ish. He was a nice dude at the time and absolutely destroyed everything.

It does seem like there are not many Black Label drops in Australia over the last few years (currently through Chapter 2 Dist, which is part of / under 4128 Dist based in Brisbane), but it does also seem like John Lucero has been busy of late and there are a lot of Black Label boards around right now again.

Gotta laugh at the guy who said "no mention of alfaro yet?" dude hes discussed in multiple posts on multiple pages.
I used to skate with Adam a lot. Or rather, we would be at the same park together a lot. He was always a pretty nice dude. I worked in the industry at the time (this is like 2002-ish) and he was one of the few kids that actually destroyed the whole park, all the time. This is when even at a skatepark, kids weren't really going buckwild on transition yet. (Sadly I didnt either and now I am paying the price for my transgressions)
Anyway, being an Orange County native and a huge fan of Lucero, I have always had a lot of love for the Label. Jason Adams is a hell of a dude and his LK part is incredible. I have always been a big Pat Smith fan (and ride CODA boards now) and I mean, Grosso finally getting his 540 in LK is so so so so sick. I've always liked John, the company, everything about it. Just awesome.
The halcyon days of being distro'd by Giant and shit were awesome. I would ride that curb vulture if it were a 9, and that egg Reuter keeps calling out to me. That kid is sick. Long live the label.

That Pat Smith part randomly popped into my head a few months ago and I rewatched it. Great combination of skating and music. I remember it stood out seeing east coast skating in a label video.
Svitak’s part from Label Kills was another one of my favorites from back in the day. At a time when a lot of skaters were dressing fresh trying to be cool he was flying around with neon griptape and black flag shirts.
Making me want to support the label by going out and buying a deck. Those two videos (Label Kills and Blackout) were a big influence growing up skating but I think I only had two label decks back in the day.
