Those Wildwoods do look kinda similar, but I feel like the ones Mariano is wearing are more dad tech. Definitely just look like some random dad runner to me and not a good heritage model but I could be wrong.
Either way I would really like to know as well. That part has the best shoe selection of any pro part ever. So crazy he was just skating whatever he wanted that whole part.

Definitely more dad tech but sort of resemble the react 87s everyone is creaming about recently.
Narrow tapered toe. There was a white pair with some gum sole elements with green accents that were ill. The ones guy has are the more charcoal accented version. Given the height of the heel area they aren't exactly ideal to skate in which makes that clip even sicker.

100%. thought they could be aisics or another misc brand but confirmed through everyone that had/wanted them they are definitely nikes.

always thought they were reebok at the time. had a silhouette similar to the preseasons, but the sole looks like a graphlite sole that reebok used in the mid 90s. Totally could be nike, but seems like they are missing most of the staple elements of the swoosh

swoosh was DL for sure but I can see how that would dissuade convincing they were Nike's.
i came up short on google images, is there an official or third party archive of all Nike's released by year?
i'd be willing to dig deep because they might be floating around on eBay.

Holy shit man -- I gotta take my hat off to this effort! That is pretty much them design wise spot on, and those screen grabs were shit quality to build off of. Really impressive.
The material above the central "fist" shaped portion with the swoosh was a mesh but not the translucent kind, as well as the inner toe portion (not cap).
They would be categorized as "cross trainers" or a runner, not a hiker as the shoe itself was malleable and didn't have that rigid foundation a lot of hikers are supported on.

I get why you’d disagree. My reasoning is everyone seems to be cashing in on the retro look recently. If it had a decent following and maybe some celebrity posted about it on socials, I could see it happening. However remote a chance all of that comes about.
Considering Guy isn’t really known outside of skating and there isn’t even a name to place what shoe it is on this thread, it probably won’t happen.

From what I can see in the pictures, the outsole is definitely Nike air. And it probably is a cross training type shoe. There’s a shit ton of highly similar cross training shoes from the period with smaller swooshes and squiggly linework though, so determining the exact model is next to impossible. I’ve just spent 2 hours looking at whatever catalog excerpts I could find and I haven’t really gotten that much closer. There are a couple databases, but most of them don’t go farther than 2002. If there’s someone who might have the print versions of older catalogs, that would help a lot.

Ive spent a decent amount of time looking on google under various search terms, old eastbay catalogs from this time period, ebay etc. cant find them anywhere. These must be really obscure. The closest thing I found was this 'nike zoom alpha' shoe from 1996(?) the paneling on the side looks similar but the rest of the shoe is completely different.. at this point I'm just gonna wait for the day that I randomly stumble upon the shoes and say to myself "Holy sh*t! Thats the shoe from the slap thread!"

Nike’s more concerned with the AirMax and anything using that tech for their retro shoes. Dad trend will die this year anyway. And Nike’s not about to try and compete and then have the target consumers lose interest like they did with boost. They’re just using Sean wortherspoon and Virgil Abloh to dictate trends at the moment. But it kind of looks like dunks are coming back so that’s good.

Ahah I had that exact idea. Was planning on pitching it to Village Psychic. Apparently Mariano is impossible to get interviews from though. He may not be down to hype up any shoes except for Nikes.
