Wondering if people think someone with a size 12 shoe can successfully skate an 8.25 width board? Some decks i like (looking into Santa Cruz VX decks) but they don’t come in 8.3 which is my normal deck width. I used to skate 8.5 and moved down to 8.3 and really liked it better.

I'm size 13. Usually skate 8.5 but have absolutely no problems with an 8.38, doubt 8.25 would be much different unless the nose and tail are really pointy, then it gets tricky because your foot drags too much on slides. As long as the nose and tail are somewhat rounded it should be ok.

In 98’ I skated a 7.5 and i’m 6.1 with a 12 shoe. 8.25 seems to be the new 7.75. I currently skate a 8.5 but had a 8.0 set up to practice flip tricks. Basically what I’m saying is buy the 8.25. Use 149 trucks and it will feel wider.

Maybe

The thing is, if I buy a Santa Cruz VX deck I’m stuck with it for a while because they are quite expensive and last forever apparently. So I’m hoping 8.25 suffices because I don’t want to go back up to 8.5. So far based on people’s answers, 8.25 seems like it will work but looking forward to more opinions

Dude just buy a shop deck or a blank if you're trying out a shape/size you've never ridden before.

Yes. What do you think people did in the '90s when you couldn't find anything bigger than 8"?
Skate what feels good to you.

Ive had 7 3/4 boards I liked and my foot was 13 then. I'd get a 9 if I was you. Thats what alot pros ride.
