Title: Resse Nine Club

Tate slipping.  Super Stoked to listen. Seeing Resse rip it on my first trip to Pulaski in the very early nineties was amazing. First time I saw someone skate street like a man, if that makes any sense, not just fisseling at 1 mph.

like watching bobby do an 8 foot long back smith there.  it's one thing to see it in the video, but in real life and knowing how those ledges skate.. it's unreal

So glad Reese is on. I wish that Crob, Rog, and Kelly would get some help coming up with deeper questions to help guide the conversation. They should contract Monkey_Mcpott. His Lance Dawes Pals questions in particular were so good. TNC could use some more in-depth questioning that shows some preparation like that.

Still enjoyable for sure.

Ha! Yeah that’s never happening for sure.

Watched it and thought it was ok. Was really stoked when I saw the name but the interview was all over the place. There were some slow points for sure and some good stories as well. At this point I don’t think it’s necessary to keep bringing up nothing but the truth, I think everyone can agree it sucked and none of the riders had control over it. Just seems repetitive every time it comes up because it’s always the same response.

Also geez is Reese handsome  :-*

From what I've seen of SF's homeless problem, I can't imagine the mix of derelicts, rich kids, and store security that's going to happen. Seems like it's going to be chaotic.

Man Reese is going to make a good living from that store. Ryan Hickey was making 60-70K a year working at the OG store back in the day, so Reese will doubtlessly be living large. Nice guy as well, he complimented the Stacks boards I have in my collection.

Agreed MM. I wanted to be really stoked on this but it was disappointing. I like CROB, for the most part, but he's not good enough at the craft or a big enough presence to interview someone like Reese Forbes. And specifically for this episode it doesn't help that he's not much of a skate historian. There was so much left on the table, or not talked about at all. Instead it was the same formulaic nonsense and shit that has been covered ad nauseam over the last decade plus. Just pure laziness. When you get a guest like Reese you should be better prepared.

And yes, not for nothing he is a very handsome man.

One of the best.

I loved that short Jordan Richter story..

But yeah Reese carried that pretty much by himself. It feels like there could’ve been more substance, but still enjoyable.

Speaking of, Kenny Hughes should get one.

When I saw Reese was going to be on this morning I was super excited.  That didn't last very long. I've never been one to bash the show but this has got to be the worst episode ever. Crob needs to stay on track. Kelly was the only one trying to stay on track It seemed. Roger seemed like he didn't know shit about him. Pretty bummed on the interview. Same thing with Sammy last week. Step it up Chris don't get lazy now.

This one was a struggle - when the guest is awkward or reticent to be verbose the whole thing just grinds to a halt. Crob can play at being Stern but he's not even close to being a good interviewer.

It's a shame, this could have been great but the lack of skills behind it let it down.

I completely agree but crob has seemed to do alittle more research in recent episodes atleast knowing board company switches etc. I felt like Reese curbed it a lot w his humor (which I loved, but it cut a lot of stories short) by saying a quick answer and following up with “are we done?” Or “what else do you wanna talk about?”. Rogers the skate historian and Roberts is the funny guy to me, Roger just doesn’t speak up enough and when he does it’s very brief and often talked over.

Also I completely agree with the beating a dead horse w nothing but the truth monkey mcpott. The skating rules. The skits suck. We’re all watching on a dvd or computer you can just skip them, it’s not like we have to get up and hold down the fast forward button on the vcr anymore

I still love the nine club. It’s great content and these dudes clearly put a lot of work into it. As someone who drives for a living i’ll take everything skate related I can get

He's referencing an interview last year about how the manager at Supreme New York was making about 100k a year (might have been in Jenkem, not sure). He was making that way before 2011-2012 when Supremes popularity blew up.

Keep in mind Supreme is a billion dollar company with a pretty small staff (im guessing less than 500 worldwide) so I'm sure being involved with them is decent money.

Yeah surprisingly insubstantial episode.
I made it all the way to the end, but it still seemed like they didn't really discuss anything.

Reese has been conventionally attractive forever, maybe he's just like a vacuous good looking dude who never had to develop much depth.

This part still kicks ass though:

The ya, no.  Which is it?  Didn't know your source for that magic number, but it was touched on above.  100k, is far from incredible in SF/Marin.

But the major point: Bleak -  charmless and inhospitable; dreary.

My interpretation had nothing to do with financial compensation.  Managing a Supreme store sound like one of the biggest, most soul sucking jobs I can imagine.  The clientele, the location (his commute), the future.  You think he'll be running that with all the fresh kids when he is 50?  That's not that long from now.  I imagine burnout comes in under 30 months.

I hate to agree but $100K in SF/Marine is not that great. Hopefully he bought a home when the market is down or has good rent but doubt there is rent control in Marine. I mean $100K for retail is definitely fine but he's just living in the wrong city with that kind of salary.

It’s totally fucked. If his wife did work, then they’ll need daycare and that shit is regular. Asking for like $2k a month to watch kids while people work.

Can only speak to Lafayette store, but they keep like everything in the back. I grabbed a hoodie off the rack and a camp cap, some dude ran up to me and told me that those were the display that he would grab one from the back for me. This was also like 8 years ago.

Very interesting shopping experience. I think they set it up that way to make the shit feel more limited than it actually is. Like someone coming in and seeing one shirt left on the rack like "oh shit I got the last one"

Nine club fan boy here but is it just me or did Crob call uber, over? He also mixed Pulaski with pulhowski? Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that shit. Maybe he had one of Rogers weed beers.

Really good episode. Reese has a great sense of humor. Always thought his power was amazing growing up. I'd actually step foot into a supreme store just to fan out on dude. I never will tho, but to me, he's kinda legend status. I always wished I could.ollie like him.

Can't believe he lives Marin though. I lived in Sonoma county for a year and I remember reading making under 130k is considered poor there. It was when I was drinking heaaaaavvvvyyyy so I could be wrong. Regardless, just driving the 101 through, you can tell you gotta be doin good to live there. Maybe married rich. This blows my mind. I live in Vancouver, one of the least affordable cities in the world and that’s about $130,000 Canadian. As part of a two income family that’s not a livable wage there? I know S.F is more expensive but by how much. A dump house in the actual city of Vancouver is 1- 1.5 million. But 4-5 million dollar houses are disgustingly common.

I have 3 kids, while not in the Bay Area, still expensive. Oldest 2 are in public school, youngest is in a paid "preschool". I have one more year of my youngest in paid childcare, I cannot wait for the day that bill goes away.

I have a decent job, I carried the family of 5 the last five years while my wife was in grad school. She started working last week and gets her first pay check Monday, I can't wait to get this stress off of me.

Always liked his World Tour part:

Me as well. Got some of those vita Natas shoes because of it.

Ps Barley and O'Connor parts also rule. And the bittersweet symphony montage

Those parts are all great. Hughes' too. Hell, I like Billy Pepper's part as well even though it's mostly ollies. Underrated video.

The bs ollie on the yellow quarter pipe and the 5050 up the fun box ledge pop over the box are both at my childhood local skatepark. The 5050 is still unfathomable 20 years later. To my knowledge, no one has done anything up that ledge since.

Just re-watched the world tour video. Great team, great video. Had a bunch of element decks during that time. All 7.5 or 7.625. Cracked a few of those featherlights. I was so psyched on Reese and Tim O'Connor at that time. My best skate friend was all about Barley and Wray, so many Element boards. Weird how 2 years later, wouldn't be caught dead using their shit. Switched to Habitat cuz of Tim, Kerry and Fred

I'm glad Reese is back in SF. Watching the SF section with him, Huf, Ocean Howell, and Matt Field in Dan Wolfe's 'Closure' gets me hyped to skate all the time. Reese is a straight powerhouse.
