i like to get new trucks when i get a new deck. i like my trucks fresh looking, and i try different trucks a lot. i love a fresh new setup.
haha
-
depends on if you have type 1 or type 2 madness
-
I hate new trucks so usually like once or twice a year at most. this year had a little bit of madness and copped a pair of ace 44s and venture 5.8s. usually I'm a buy a pair of Indys when they break type of dude but all this truck hype this year has had me trying (and enjoying) new shit.
-
When the last set is unusable, usually when they break is when the axle has said it’s peace
-
Usually after someone steals my shit. I’ve come close to grinding down to the axle a few times only to get my setup stolen. Fucking sucks
Haven’t bought a pair in a minute thankfully but I’ll probably never grind to the axle with all the setups I have on rotation
-
I stay at my dad's every second weekend and if he's late picking me up, which he always is, I know he'll feel guilty and I can get him to buy me a new complete. Jk my dad died in 2012 when the Mayan calendar flipped. I set up new trucks probably twice a year and always skate them to the axle.
-
I try to keep them for as long as possible.
I'm down to the axle on my aces now and piss everyone off at the local miniramp, cause it fucks up the coping, since they used some cheap bars that get scratched by the hard metal of the axle. Coping gets really sticky then and they then complain that they can't do their 3 foot smithgrinds anymore...
-
When I get tired of the feeling, seeing as I don’t destroy trucks like I used to. It’s a feeling thing for me. I hate tinkering with my trucks so I just change ‘em when I’m over them, I don‘t mind breaking in new trucks, in fact, I enjoy it.
Could be a month (Krux), could be years (Indy). I’ve got 2 and a half years on my Ventures right now and don’t feel the need to change them, I love the feeling and they’re perfect for me.
-
When they break.
Axel, hanger, baseplate. Then the next size I choose dictates my board for the following year or two.
I’ve measured my life in broken trucks.
-
I like new trucks. I usually get a new set 2 or 3 times a year. But I also sometimes get new bushings and pivot trucks to keep my trucks going longer.
-
I just got a set of new indy's this summer so I think next summer I'll be switching to aces, their not to badly worn, I have a grove on the, I need to do more slappies.
-
Usually once a year or so. Mainly when the base plate is completely worn down to the pivot cup from tailslides
-
Once they’re on axel and I feel they’re done or until they break.
-
Usually only when madness happens or I drastically change board sizes. But right now I’m pretty content with 8.38 or 8.5 decks and I have 149 thunders chilling if I get a short WB board and I got some new Indy 149s now. I’ll prob buy ventures soon to try especially if I go back to 8.25 decks
-
Whenever they break somehow, might take years.
-
unless they suck, when my old ones are worn down or crack. every one to two years usually. i'm old and fully employed so i don't skate 20 hours a week anymore, and barely in the winter. i bought new trucks in the summer and think they will easily get me through 2020 and probably into 2021. the pair before that lasted about two years as well.
i might buy a set of aces in 2020 when the new ones come out just to try them though.
-
When I was on Indy it was once I hit the axle. When I sized down I got some tensors and broke a kingpin and decided to try thunder which I’ll probably run until I hit the axle.
-

This. Last Thunders I had like 3 years till the axel started to peek. Got Ace 44 last spring and I'm not going change them till I have to. I swap the front and back trucks each time I set up a new deck to make them last longer.
-
Whenever I decide I want a Christmas complete. Which usually means I’m just tired of my current trucks. New trucks for me historically has meant a new truck brand altogether.
-
not nearly as often as i fuck with the bushings

This also, usually skate them until I feel like they're inhibiting my skating which is normally around the point I've hit the axle/had to replace the bushings/the axle threads are too fucked to function. Previous set I got in 2016 and skated up until mid 2018 till they were down to the axle, replacement kingpin on the back and past the point of rethreading. Kinda funny was trying a front 5050 alley oop almost nollie front 180 out off this 3 stair ledge and just couldn't do it, kept fucking up the lock in and couldn't get close. Bought a new set of 149s, broke them in and had it in a few tries. Could be placebo but I feel once trucks are at that point no matter how homely they feel there's a point where they become detrimental to your skating.
Current set down to the axle, cracked and the threads have seen better days. Getting a good deal on some indy's soon so be interesting to finally skate those.
-
either when i make a different setup or when the axle threading starts get fucked and the nuts goes loose
-
Whenever some asshole in the Truck set up thread stirs my inner desires.
Waiting for the new ACE trucks.....

When I was still lurking I'd pour over all of Rob's posts thinking I was accruing untold and vast knowledge (and wasting a decent amount of cash in the process)....then he started talking about mini-logos and the jig was up.
-
My very old Thunders (4 or 5 years old, skated for a couple) are still in great shape. Now that I have two sets of Aces and some Ventures I theoretically shouldn’t have to buy trucks for like 8 years.
-
Pretty impressed about how many pals said that they like new trucks.

I have been rocking Mini Logos various setups for 5 years. I have both 8 and 8.38, and they are what I use most often when I am skating those size boards. Good stuff.
-
could have just gotten one set at most this year, but have gotten 3 due to too much time on the truck thread.
-
Never, if possible.
I had to put new bushings in the other night and that killed me enough as it is.
-
When I change models of trucks, change sizes of trucks or when my trucks are ground down to an extent that it negatively effects my grinds or the hardware is falling off constantly.
The only new trucks that I don’t mind very much are Thunders with Bones Medium bushings or broken in mediums/Hards.

Same here but if madness kicks in it could be 3 sets in 2 months...

No shade intended. A better way to say it, I knew then Rob would find the best, most incomparable aspects of whatever trucks he happened to see that day. I know he means well, but goddamn, rabbitholes within rabbitholes.
-
4-5 years or when I wanna try something new . I can’t grind for shit and weigh like 110 though
-
i try not to, i love how worn down trucks look, i've been on a set of 44s for a year now and they still have a lot of life left so i'm hyped on that, i'll try to hit the axle on them. i usually get new trucks when the axles are stripped as fuck and i can't get the nut on or when they break (obviously).
-
Nothing wrong w the trucks I have now but interested in trying axle sizes I don’t have like venture 6.1
-
Just before I go through to the axels I get new ones. That way I can piece together a set up to sell or give away. I think it's from skating that sharp angle iron because I go through thunders like once a year....
-
I’ve tried and gotten rid a few trucks I didn’t like in a matter of weeks but for the most part I’ve ridden all of my trucks for years.
If I’m only counting trucks I’ve ridden for longer than a month, it’s less than a dozen pairs in 30+ years.

It is I, Rob, the truck thread mad man
I get new trucks when I notice a redesign or need to try out what’s up
Like recently when I bought some regular thunder 148 to replace the ones that got bent trying to skate a bank next to the street where my 1 of top 3 trucks got ran over, but as I lurked for another set of 148 I noticed that the new batches were smoother and cleaner and most of all, the base plates now have the thunder word logo slanted. My madness skyrocketed finding out that to notice if you had a really recent batch just look at the thunder font and if it’s the classic ac dc rock style font then it’s old, but if it’s the new italics slanted style it’s of the newest batches
Any ways as of late to add to my new trucks to try I have gotten a set of
Ace 44- cause I bought the classics 44 when they first came out and compared to the newest set I got 1 month ago the casting and finish and mold get better as they progress
Thunder team 148- cause my first set got bent and they have a really refreshed batch
About to get a new set of the mini logo 8.38- cause now the horrendous logo they had on the hangar is gone and I’m missing how low and centered they felt and the addition of madness finding out how much changing to quality pivot cups helps, so gonna grab a set and some riptides and see how that goes
I’m telling you people who are biased and close minded
The mini logos might look like the lame ass nerd but honestly is the coolest person you’ll meet and get to know
They’re odd but man they just work, they kinda remind me of those real low pro decks
How center of gravity they’re supposed to be, you just get more feeling and pop

Rob riffing on trucks like Jack kerouac "and the letters skewing crazy, mad baseplates of single forge provenance" I like it a lot.
-
Just ordered 4 sets of venture worrest 5.8, should hold me for awhile.

Just scooped up the Caleb Barnett 5.8's. Ventures are settling into being my new home, quite happy with them.
-
Way too often. Don't think I've ever gotten to axle on any of my trucks.
It's a sickness!

Lol more than I should be. Being a gear nerd is one of my favorite things. You should see how deep I go on skiing forums like Newschoolers. That shit gets real compulsive.
Honestly though I probably swap less often than most. I don’t skate nearly as much as some of you. I recently got into skating again after a gnarly game of SKATE with heroin over the last few years so I’m a little frustrated with the fact that I was better as a preteen than at 25 years old. Doesn’t matter though I guess... the last 2.5 years off dope have been better than most days when using. I should probably blame that instead of my trucks and board size but you know how it is.

Nice to read you're doing better man.

Only when needed, I prefer to keep them as long as I can, I've had my current ones a year and a half at this point their better then ever.
