With the change of trends in everyday fashion, it has become obvious that the outdoors theme is the new big thing. Vintage Nike ACG is cool again, Arcteryx, Columbia and other outdoors brands are growing in popularity, and “earth tones” has become more than a color scheme you wear during summer.
Some of you may not be totally into this, and that’s perfectly understandable. I’m also sure that some of you definitely are. So let’s cease the awkwardness and embrace this thing.
When it comes to clothing, it’s rather easy to pick your stuff. Outdoors clothing is rather comfortable and is designed for active mobility and movement, so it works quite well for skating too. But when it comes to shoes, we’re confronting a whole new problem.
Some shoes back in the day definitely were inspired by hiking shoes. Some DC models come to mind, but I can’t remember the names.
For the contemporaries, I can’t think of a single one, actually.
So let’s drop it. Let’s see the pictures, the suggestions, the inspo. Let’s get this whole thing rolling. Love and respect to all of you.

Silas shoe is so nice.
Recently there was an Australian release of a lynx that had an amazing retro hiking vibe.
Did mike Arnold have some footage in a more tech hiking looking shoe?
I thought there would be more of this: the technical hiking shoe/boot, mixed into skating. Especially after palace had that salomon boot commercial. And the euro drug dealer look of the last few years incorporating outdoor-tech....i would for sure skate some weird B.O.A lacing hiking boot. I’m going back to skating tiny boards, might as well put whatever the fuck on my feet

God damnit, that shoe was so nice.
I've always thought the vans sk8 hi hiking thing looked pretty cool, minus the flannel top part.

Are you talking just skate shoes, or shoes in general?
First two aren't skate shoes.

Main reference for the silas was the marathon tr range... Its kinda like a skateable low top of these (marathon tr mid):

The outdoor look was pretty sick imo.
I still have a pair of them in burgundy that I wear casually from time to time only because I dont want to destroy them skating...
Some old shoes that come to my mind that have a outdoor kinda look are the éS koston 2 and the Vita Dill... there’s probably more.

plenty of brands have done lifestyle shoes that look like hiking boots and what not. Nike SB has gone out on the branch probably a dozen times with hiking dunks, trainerendors, janoski mid max abominations
for something skateable..

Damn these are amazing.
Anyways, I like how it’s going so far but I don’t think everyone’s getting exactly where I’m going. I was thinking skate shoes specifically, and not skate-inspired boots, rather hiking-inspired skate shoes. Here are some things I found.

Also, to the point
I kinda like the janoski crafted after seeing Max Palmer skate in them. It might just be Max though...
Kinda off topic, but I wonder how well the new Golf x Converse shoe would skate... It looks pretty cool though.

there was an etnies model in about 97 - 99 that was the first really hiking shoe inspired thing I was aware of: Anyone remember what model it was? black sole, brown leather and dark blue mesh upper? Sid Clarke in skatecanada vid if anyone remembers that...

The adidas Alltimers ZX 4000....more of a runner but if they had a different colourway....

Fuck yeah, the Rocket rules. Not exactly hiking, but I see what you were going for because I think the same way.
Gonna look into that etnies shoe though... anyone have any old catalogs from back then?

I know which shoe your referencing. I too forget the name. Also, Elissa Steamers pro model was based off a hiking shoe if i remember correctly or she skated a pair of those hiking etnies.
-
Trek!
That's the one, thanks, I had a few pair of those. The hiking reference for me in these shoes is like a Hi-tec or even a Merrel contour. Etnies should bring back the Trek, I think it'll be due by next summer.
Yeah the Steamer one too, it was like a brown leather mid?

The Rowley Civilware x Vans collab was definantly a hikeing boot probably skateable with the vans sole. It was a cool shams’ inspired shoe.

"Mocha" colorway for the imaginary Numeric shoe I drew up at work.
It's a mash up of the 575 Trail Upper and the Numeric 420 sole.

DUDE these are awesome! I’ve sketched some imaginary NB#s in the past as well lol. Just so much to work with there. I assume you design for a living, right?

I work in design related field and have fine art experience. I do want to get into skateboarding footwear, specifically design.

most of the shoes from the vans "otw" collection a few years back. there was a cool hiking style boot with a moc toe but i can't remember the name of it.

Adidas Tim O'Connor Mid. I feel these looked like hiking boots. Looking at the green and brown lettering now it kinda looks like foliage.
I had these. They had zero flex and that felt awful. No board feel at all. They did last forever though.

Some other good looking shoes here too, like the éS Sesla. 👍

Yeah these are not bad. The sole looks pretty cool. Don’t really like the PU on mesh construction (most hiking shoes have actual paneling I suppose), but the colorway definitely redeems it.

Yeah the colorway ain’t bad, but they should’ve definitely tweaked some things on the reissue there... definitely too fat, some paneling is pretty random too imo.

Picked these up not long ago!
Someone mentioned them previously.

For the last couple years, in shitty weather (basically most of fall, winter, and into spring) I wear boots as my everyday shoes. At first I went the cheaper route and for a hiking type of boot, I've found it's really worth the money to get a quality boot that doesn't fall apart. I've been wearing a pair of Danner's and they're incredibly well made and extremely comfy. If you're going for a hiking boot style of shoe, check them out.

Just found this randomly googling. Was this (shoe on the left) ever a real thing? (Ignore the shit on the right it's from some blog)

It's been a very long time but, last summer, last summer, I stumbled upon a pair that looked like hiking shoes but felt like clouds on my feet. They were perfect for impromptu hikes or just running errands around town.
It's like finding the right piece to complete your hiking outfit (https://thehappinessfxn.com/spring-hiking-outfit-ideas-for-women/), you know? Comfort and style all rolled into one.

Hiking clothes are generally hideous. Why is it a trend to wear them casually?
