I got very mixed feelings about the olympics BUT i will say it's fuckin cool that two of the potential people on the squad have deep roots in PA (foy's mom and family is from my hometown and Mccoy is from about an hour and change away). But it's also the olympics

Super confusing but Ishod could get in, just needs to do well in that street league in London.
I think it’s cool USA has a national team but only 3 skaters max from each country in each event. Slim chances of getting to skate in Olympics but I’m glad they’re having fun with it.
This will be good for women’s skateboarding. Won’t change much. It’s just street league on a bigger stage. Nyjah will win and they will have to give him SOTY and Slap will explode.

I just started paying attention to skating again a couple years ago, so girls skating at a high level still blows my mind. She has great style period, not just for a girl like it used to be.
There was some girl skating at the skatepark yesterday on my lunch break, didn't even realize she was a girl until she came up and introduced herself and said her name. She was way younger than me, and skating the mini with me, only with better style. Honestly was pretty neat. I hardly ever skate around people until lately going to the parks again, and so far she has skated that section best and with the better style than anyone. Really reminded me of Alexis a lot. It was cool as fuck to see how things are changing.

While the 14yr old punkrock skater kid in me is saying fuck the olympics, the adult in me is saying, you know insane skating is these days? The tenchnical levels are up there with floor and hell it's good exposure for something I was arrested for doing ;)
Women weren't ready for the Berrics, they're not ready for the world stage.
As noted above, who the actual fuck are some of these people, granted I don't watch every park contest buuuut....
Hate all you want but it's the robots like Nyjah, Shane, Aurelien, Yuto, etc. that are worthy. I like watching Foy, Zion, but I don't feel they are at 'that' level.

I fell in love with skateboarding b/c it was a bizarre esoteric little world that I had to put effort into finding, understanding and become a part of. If I was a child now, I'm not sure it would have any appeal to me.
I'm too old to care now but I hope today's 12-year-olds- have a special little subculture that speaks to them in ways, uniforms, teams, energy drinks, robotic routines, televised performances never can. Not sure what it might be but it is likely not skateboarding.

*THE* subculture is still there and I'm talking about a very specific portion: Blood Wizard, Bacon, Zero (the team not the chief), Slave, Heroin, Black Label, Krooked/AH / Creature / Foundation (to some extent still); the dirts.
'Clean Teams' have always been weird to me...not discounting the skating but it's just like any other clicks...dirts, preps, jocks, nerds....hipsters (fucking set all the subsets on fire).

I just wanted to add that who else hopes that the US loses. My reason for this is because I'm sure the borrics would like to capitalize on anyone who has skated their facilities to tack on some olympic level crap to their title and make some wack documentary about the champion and how the borrics helped them get there.
Has there been any other countries that beat the US at baseball, basketball, etc. or all the other events that originated from the US? Lots of pressure if we get smoked and don't even medal at all.

Seriously though, skateboarding is now all too accessible, conformist, commodified and formulaic ... all of it. Part of the appeal was how elusive it all was. You really had to find your way in and that weeded out inauthenticity. I'm not mourning the 'good old' days but it does concern me that everyone speaks our language now.
I don't like exclusive clubs but I do like dark alleys where fuck-ups, weirdos and ADHD outcasts can welcome each other and bond over laughing at the rest of the world while they laugh at us.
