I appreciate that every time he is asked about this (and it's been a lot of times), he never says "oh I've already apologized for that, let's move on" or "why do people keep bringing it up?" Instead, every time that I've seen he gives a thorough explanation for what happened, why he did it, and why he's sorry.

Pro career aside, he knows this is a cross he has to bear for the rest of his life and I think it's great he's upfront about the mistakes he made in the past. Big Brother did him dirty by publishing that interview; we've all done horrible shit in the past and we're lucky it just didn't make it to a print magazine. Fucking baited an insure 15 year old trying to break into the industry while making fun of his speech impediment is low.

I think Chris Nieratko has mellowed out a bit over the years, become a little more subdued and has shown a lot of heart with certain causes. Like Duffel, I think he's a good man at heart. Less about chasing controversy these days. I do think he and Carnie are the most talented, most entertaining journalists to cover the skate scene.
Duffel and Williams have peaced it up, as far as I heard, and treat the past matter with the respect it deserves.
Ultimately, regardless of age, you are the only person who can control and is responsible for what comes out of your mouth. Sometimes you learn the easy way, sometimes you learn the hard way.

Big Brother were the real bad guys on that anyway. The interview should have stopped, and they should have explained to him that he went over the line. Instead they dump it on readers. Like we didn’t know that young white kids were racist assholes. There’s no reason to remind readers and it’s shitting on kids who weren’t white boys. Good for Corey for apologizing and he seems like a decent guy. Have any of Big Brother ever apologized?

They've never apologized, as far as I'm aware. I suppose they feel they don't need to since they didn't say it? I believe every time Nieratko sees Duffel he says 'I made you'. In my opinion, obvs it was in poor taste they published it, especially after Duffel called them, upset, crying, saying not to publish it. What did they do instead? they put his voicemails on their website for people to hear. That's some cold shit to do to a kid when you're an adult. As a teen, he said a lot of stupid shit, but the vast majority of us did as well, the point is that you get educated and you grow, which he did, in my opinion. But, I don't think a person would get a second chance if that happened today.
Fuck Nieratko, that dude just reeks of self-importance. I know times are different now and Big Brother was certainly cool back in the day but that's some petty shit for a company of adults to do to a teenager regardless of when it was.
