Because of covid, the skateboarding market is booming more than ever. Everybody is basically having trouble keeping up with the demand.

I don't think Enjoy cares about having heavy hitters. Jackson Pilz is gnarly but you rarely see footy and they seem totally cool with that. I was told by a friend of a team rider that when he was put on they said "we don't care if you post or film much just try to come on tour if you can and keep it fun"

Enzo and Louie had some disagreements. Something along the lines of a bad attitude I've heard. Originally thought this read Eniz (Fazliov), who was getting flowed for a hot minute, but he's now on the Heated Wheel, Blender's new company. If your personality doesn't mesh well, I don't think you're going to stay around very long.

Samaria kills and gives them contest exposure. Deedz prob just skating a krooked cause didn’t have an enjoi board but even if he bounces enjoi will be fine. Also R7 decks are pretty great. To the point I think I prefer them over bbs. Just gotta spray paint them or heavily sticker them up.

The R7 I’m on I think has converted me. It was cheap (on sale as you mentioned hahah) and was a place holder til I found a deck I wanted but damn it has stayed so crispy for idk how long left in my car treated like shit and still feels crisp. It’s just a bummer enjoi almost and madness graphics wise are pretty bad.

Seems they’ve all referenced Louie directly and mentioned no hard feelings or similar. Screams of an upper management re-org riders salaries being the first thing to cut if sales are steady from chain stores and malls, team riders will always seem like an unnecessary expense to anyone who isn’t a skater.

Quick google says Andy is 51 born in 71. Louie would have to be up there/ prob mid 40s. He had a checkout in the early or mid 90s so assume he was prob at least 16 then

-darkstar sold (is still selling?) completes in walmart, their team seems fairly prolific in terms of contest skaters, could see that being a big plus with whatever investors keeping dwindle afloat

-the blind reaper is well-known enough to justify keeping the brand around for nostalgia purposes
-madness is whatever but as one of the few transition-based brands i could see it doing decently. could also see it going away
somewhat more informed take:
enjoi on the other hand is just... kind of there. they've been coasting for years - the brand's glory days were behind it a full decade ago, their team is full of niche-ish skaters who are all good but don't jive together as a group and aren't marketed enough to get a good return on investment, their last major video was several years ago, and i couldn't tell you a single graphic they've done recently (versus in their heyday, when all their graphics were great). i don't really see what market the brand speaks to in 2023 and i think that if this were a new brand no one would be excited to see it.

a skater friend who works as a programmer quit his secure government job a few months ago cause he was tired of some political bullshit inside of it, now I just saw a post of him bitching on social media for not getting any new job response... dude come on we dont have 18 anymore

Skateboardings gotta be the worst industry for just not paying people and it's somehow all treated like it's ok and normal. The least you could do it quit so they can't keep making money off your name I guess

i've never quite understood why someone would quit without having another thing fully lined up already. i understand you aren't planning on staying long term, but how is it better to forgo a paycheck, free product, etc, while you search for a new sponsor?
anytime a friend just straight quits their job i feel the same way too.
I think often it’s contracts and companies don’t renew or renew for much worse, then guys quit…..

Maybe something of a stretch but I'd like to see him on Uma. Really liked their first video and it'd be cool to see them bolster the roster with some established pros with a creative approach that deserve more shine. Nick Garcia already heading there, right?

We're due for a reboot, ironic if it was relaunched through Dwindle again and Deez still has to see Louie at the office.

There's so much talent out there without proper sponsors these days. One solution would be for the legitimate board companies to squad up like shoe/wheel/truck companies. 50 guys on a team. Another way would be the shoe companies doing things like Nike SB Wood with big teams. I think the best thing would be for the big shoe companies to do what they were always accused of but never really happened: provide logistical and management support for boutique board companies. Deedz could have kind of a 360 deal with Nike and be the face of a board company almost entirely run by Nike. But Nike wouldn't want to give up any ownership stake. Skaters at the peak of their abilities would often rather skate than be stuck running a company. Kind of shows why a guy like Rocco was necessary, and enabled such a golden era.
My vote is Deedz and Vincent on 917.

Would any shop even want to order 50 boards from one company per season? It would take up the whole wall. Once again maybe better for the 80s when there were fewer companies

Enjoi couldn't afford to pay what, 8 guys? How are companies going to afford to pay 50? Impossible unless you only want to see 3 companies and they're Nike, Cons, Vans

Serious question, how would adding forty skaters possibly help a struggling brand? What is the value add?
Deedz couldn't sell enough decks with Enjoi to justify even being paid.
