Wow this reminded me of a kid I knew in kindergarten. Who would smell really bad after PE. And I just figured man that kid smells after he sweats a lot. When I asked my mom she said oh that kid doesn’t wipe his ass. Apparently all the adults knew but the parents probably didn’t care.

He said that there were not really many avenues open to him to get coverage because of the helmet. Conventional photographers wouldn’t shoot him, because magazines won’t run pics of of a guy with a helmet.
He’s left basically with only working with people who want to work with him, which are not the main industry guys. He met up with NKA vids, who was stoked on him and introduced him to Braille. They were willing to promote him when the rest of the industry wouldn’t.
I don’t like Braille either, but what’s he he supposed to do?

Thanks for clarifying, I was never even aware he had been on the Nine Club, I really slowed down on that podcast after the whole Jason Jessee buddhist masquerade. So there's of course tons I don't know but still I'm not exactly convinced, the dude rides for Powell with a shit ton of connections in California, professional photographers will shoot whoever they are paid to shoot and magazines will buy && photos if only via the advertising. If Powell technically couldn't market a skateboarder with a helmet then they wouldn't have made one their current mascot. The fact that Braille also showed interest and potential for capitalization despite the helmet is another sign that there is popular interest and when it comes to that I'm not certain Thrasher, Jenkem and comparably big media outlets would be the last to slip. But just Powell letting that happen is weird; it would have been more typical for them to cling onto their 'own' 'dork' as opposed to sacrificing his soul on the altar of a completely different company of dorks. When was the last time you saw a rider for a board brand associate with a whole other board brand altogether, actively getting coverage on both channels and everyone being fine with the situation? For what that's worth, at least I'm certain there's at least a bit more to the story than the helmet.
Also, out of all the 'dorks' in skating, he still didn't exactly have to associate with the scientologists.

he’s explained the helmet before too. As someone who wears a helmet, it’s a personal choice, I don’t force it upon anyone, if someone rips, they rip! You don’t hate on people who wear a wrist guard do you?

Only the brims on those were long enough to confer an advantage by blocking some light (which was entirely made superfluous by wearing goggles). That said, I actually think it’s kind of cool that he wears a helmet despite everybody making fun of it, so I rarely state my distaste for the stupid little visor.
I’ve also always imagined the visor would make slamming face first so much worse.
Oh wait, this was about piercings? I think && could house a bellybutton ring.

About 15 years ago there was some older dudes skating at the helmet required park I was at.
One of them had a customized helmet that was shaped and colored as a Florida Marlins snap back.
He was wearing it backwards and had a stoned lazy boy style.
Idk how it relates but that's the coolest I've ever seen a helmet look

unless its for a health reason, you're a little kid or a for fun 30+ at the park then a helmet is ok but being a pro and wearing a helmet on regular street spot is weak. Why not just wear full pads and a cup and start hitting 40 stair rails?

Eyebrow rings are distracting. Have you ever tried have a conversation with someone that had eyebrow ring? When they talkthe ring is flipping all over the place catching little rays of sunshine. You could go blind if you are not careful. Are you even suppose to look at it? Is that rude? Like when you stare at someone’s lazy eye. Also an eyebrow ring can turn a 10 into a 2 but it will never turn a 2 into a 10. My math is solid.
