Title: Flat concave Popsicles
Post by: SkollieJol on August 08, 2021, 02:39:47 PM
What are the options available for flat concave popsicle decks? I skated a Brandon Westgate element that was really nice in that regard but I don't really like element as a brand. What are my other options?

Was it a PS Stix or a BBS Element deck?

Similar boards from PS Stix are more on the flat side, as are some from BBS too, but it will depend on the mold, as both woodshops have more mellow and steeper concaves in their ranges.

There are also quite a few different woodshops that have very flat concave and kicks, again dependent on which mold is being used, more so than specific brand, but I am sure people would have their own personal preference on boards like that too.

Woodshop thread here (for both the lists on the first page and info throughout the thread)

This post in particular is relevant to your question too (difference between PS Stix and BBS wood):

A couple boards that I have stepped on in the past that were very flat:
-Baker
-Crailtap boards
-Enjoi (and all dwindle boards possibly)

Not all DSM boards are flat, check the listing or top marking, the mellow ones are very mellow, the steep ones are extremely steep.

April boards, stepped on a friends one and it was definitely flat.

April, the 8.25" BBS is crazy flat. I like flat decks and it was a manual machine because of the long tail.

Girl/Choc decks are pretty mellow, usually my go-to as the wood and shapes are always consistent.

My last board was a $lave with the flathead concave and it was incredible.

DOA has a “flat af” shape but they’re kinda hard to get a hold of

I'm about to wrap up riding the DOA flat AF herb brown 8.38. it is quite the opposit of "flat AF" FWIW. Felt more like a FA concave with dlx kicks.

Toy Machine and Crailtap are your best bets.

Did you buy from the DOA site or a shop? The info I had was the FAF was only available through the site and shops had regular shapes. If you grabbed at a shop it may have been a mislabel at the warehouse.

Been curious about the slave flathead concave, would like to try one, but my shop doesn’t carry them

Baker

Girl(crail)
 https://crailtap.com/shapes (https://crailtap.com/shapes)

I really like Baker’s og concave but the decks get steep below an 8.125. The girl decks I’ve had were nice but the wheelbase’s are short.

No I ordered straight from DOA.  I just switched to a Quasi 8.38 an I'd definitely would consider that way more FAF than the DOA.

Same, aside from a steeper kicks the last few Quasi 8.3's I've had were all way flatter than a FAF. The concave on the rails of the E mold is still very South Central, kinda exagerrated.

Quasi on top, FAF on the bottom.

Probably just a shitty photo on my end (took it on couch stupidly), wouldn't read too much into it other than the Quasi is really flat rail to rail. Couple years ago the Quasi 8.3's would vary between medium and steep for me, but the last 3 I've picked up were all consistently super mellow.

Looked at a Studio the other day, I believe it was pretty mellow too.
