I rewatched plan b’s true video and what a pile of shit that movie is.
I also remember when real since day one came out there was like on 2 maybe good parts that was good and wasn’t ruined by terrible music.
What other skate videos fit in the real lackluster category?
-
that Adidas video, all I can remember is puig skating to pet shop boys, which was cool
-
pretty sweet for sure

plan b - TRUE

At least for me personally I feel like this was the death of traditional skate videos. Lucas part is pretty decent but the rest is so meh. I know the skating itself is great but i don't see how anyone could care. I can't imagine a kid having a favourite part from that video they will keep watching years later.

Plan Bs - True:
I remember specifically downloading it on my honeymoon with anticipation of the backside flip. Haha ::)
-
after sorry and really sorry...it’s extremely obvious.

It's a shame, considering the core team (Rowley, Penny, Ali, Rune) were still around. Rowley is god but that part was way too long.
-
Baker 4 was not what anyone was expecting it to be so it was kinda disappointing in that aspect when considering the 15 year gap between 3 and 4
-
Are we just going to pretend the biggest video of its time, Elementality Volume 1, didn't let everyone down in the absence of a good Bam part? I know half of the Slap board was probably so bummed

Still haven't seen Made 1 because it was licensed as like, a fucking itunes movie or something

I mean I didn’t watch pretty sweet, I found that whole ad campaign very tedious and forced, I wasn’t a fan

Has anyone seen we are blood?

in recent times????? Grand prairie, Mother was solid AF, maybe a little lack lustre at times but all solid art, music and skating.... (Loooove bledsoe's part so much) But GP was a let down... Over hyped as shit, Justin henry is slick on deck But having like 10 mins of skate vid then 13 mins of rough cut is kinda a let down lol.. also felt like all the tricks were rushed to be able to pump anything

I agree with Baker 4. Not that it was bad but I guess you kinda expect more after 15 years of filming. I don’t think company’s should take more than a year to put out a video. Never was a problem in the past, people used to film a part in a month. But now everything’s gotta be on a inexplicable higher level. It’s like it’s not real or about the fun anymore. Way to serious.
-
That has got to be pretty sweet. The whole vibe felt very off upon first viewing. Fully Flared was way over the top as well but still has some of that classic Crail feel. Plus it’s (mostly) standard def

If you followed Crail on twitter before the DVD dropped... it seems like they filmed a lot of it in a very short amount of time right at the deadline. Mostly that one trip to China(?) that a lot of the video covers, aside from the individual parts.
There are good parts in it though... Cory Kennedy, MJ kind of ripping in his part... Maybe some of Malto's stuff. A couple of tricks from Guy Mariano were weirdly technical and relatable, like him skating in the middle of Summer at some random curb/ledge.
They did botch Carroll's ollie off some stairs though. It was a really good ollie ruined by the filming with the chubby guy wobbling out of the way with the weird chest-strapped camera on him. Totally distracts from the actual trick.

This will always be my most disappointed video. Freedom the Zero Sophisto video. So much suck when it could have been cool.

they definitely did not spend 15 years filming lol, dont forget there were 2 full length baker vids in between 3 and 4 (baker has a deathwish and bake and destroy) plus several mid length promos (baker ams vid, rowan certifried promo, several tour vids, etc).
i think the main misstep was calling it Baker 4, if they had just given it a random name people would've probably just enjoyed it instead of constantly comparing it to a 15 yr old video that it was never going to live up to.

Mystery black and white was super meh after the promo section in New Blood
-
Lakai The Flare
Jon Sciano had a good part in that tho.
So lackluster no one even remembers it’s exists.
Pretty sweet had some lackluster putts but overall I enjoyed a lot of it. Vincent, MJ, CK, I also liked Jeron and BBs stuff. Guys part felt a little lackluster. I wasn’t into Raven, Stevie, or Elijahs parts. Kenny had a few cool clips, Chico and Jesus shared part was chill.

Yes I can agree with that statement for sure.

cant believe no one saying shorty's guilty. now that video had big shoes to fill, literally and figureatively speaking.

Over hyped? I feel like Grand Prairie came out of nowhere. And it was 20 minutes of skating + 30 minutes of extras. But yes Mother was better. Also I feel like it's probably a lot harder to put together a project when your skaters live all over the place. I like that Quasi lets their guys do that, so I'm willing to cut them some slack.

Cory and MJ parts are good for sure. Of course there’s gonna be some good things in that video. It has a lot of great skating. I liked Elijah’s part and Alex Olson’s footage as well. Guy and Malto’s parts are unwatchable to me because of the songs. Vincent’s part was robbed of being really dope because of the annoying editing.
-
For me it’s the transition from buying a dvd to getting them free, the Adidas video has came up which I agree with it’s like football (soccer for yanks) you can have the best team but if it ain’t vibing it isn’t there, I think extremely sorry was pivotal in these sayings
-
After having my mind blown by 'Questionable' every other Plan B flick was a let down.
Bruh, Virtual Reality is a really good video. Kits got a little better and there's less late flips. C'mon

Agreed. My main problems with a lot of the newer guys' parts were the editing (CK not included). The songs either didn't match the skating or the vibe was off. A lot of forced bro-ing that they tried to milk the vibes from the Yeah Right days.

nike nothing but the truth
skating was good, the stupid acting parts ruined it for me

Tony Hawks trick tips volume 2 was such a let down.

After Mosaic and Inhabitants, i felt like Origin was very lackluster.. the other ones that first came to mind have already all been mentioned (Since Day one, Guilty, and Nothing But the Truth).

Toy Machine Suffer The Joy
-
Those newer Transworld videos. Not duets the other two or three that were filmed so close and shitty that you could barely make out what was happening. may as well of been watching laundry tumbling around in a washing machine. I'd see photos in magazines and tricks all looked so gnarly then the video made everything look like a curb or foot wide gap.
-
Toy Machine Suffer The Joy
I want to disagree with you, but I only watch Trapasso and J-Lay's parts. It was tough following up Good and Evil.
-
pretty sweet for sure
-
Maybe a little unpopular opinion but Extremely Sorry didn't live up to the hype. Sorry and Really Sorry were/are classics. The soundtrack to that video was terrible and I could have done without all the clay animation. It had some good parts but overall it felt subpar.
-
Propeller was a letdown.
propeller is a good video. i watched it in it’s entirety for the first time in years not too long ago and it really grew on me. tnts part is so good and i completely overlooked it.

That but also I feel the quality of the skating just wasn't there. A lot of fluff, a lot of dragged out slow mo HD nonsense, and a lot of bad editing and song choices. It just wasn't what it could've been in a lot of ways. This was during a weird shift in skating on up of everything else but this one hurt. Maybe some funny skits could've broken up the monotony some.
I can say for extremely sorry there was a lot of good skating even if the editing was trash.

elijah berles part was really fucking good. one of the better parts in the whole video and the dude was only 16/17 during it. are y’all using your brain or just your head
-
pretty sweet
the skating in it is great, but everything surrounding the skating sucks. the jack black skit is hard to watch, the will arnett jokes feel forced and awkward, and there is a lot of bad music. the whole vibe of the video does not make me want to go skate at all.
im of the age where fully flared got me into skating as a young teen, so i was excited for this and went to a premiere but left feeling disappointed.
that said CK, stevie and MJ's parts are still great
-
Pretty Sweet for me. Way too long, felt like how tricks were filmed were prioritised over how good they were when choosing what went in there. Tired skits with unoriginal ideas (they basically just did the Owen Wilson bit from Yeah Right again with Will Farrell). It played like a showreel for Ty Evans to get into the film industry, which it pretty much was AFAIK. That whole plan fell on its ass pretty quickly and he was straight back to making skate vids with painfully over the top production. Ty actually said in an interview that he edited it aimed at a non-skating audience, which is a huge disservice to the amount of work the skaters put in to it. It had a few good parts and could've been an all time great but was just overproduced dogshit. Shame really.
After Mosaic and Inhabitants, i felt like Origin was very lackluster.. the other ones that first came to mind have already all been mentioned (Since Day one, Guilty, and Nothing But the Truth).
I personally preferred Origin to Inhabitants. Nothing will touch Mosaic though although Habitat always put out solid videos
Maybe a little unpopular opinion but Extremely Sorry didn't live up to the hype.
Don't know who you've been talking to but that's not unpopular
-

I actually gave it another go today and it wasn’t as bad as I remember. I think I wasn’t really feeling the over polished HD look at the time and that cheap After effects polygonal motion template they used felt a bit cheesy at the time but I don’t mind it now.
