Title: The Search for Marc Johnson
Post by: Doug_13 on October 18, 2021, 01:18:15 PM
Anyone know why Business & Co is still accepting orders on the website but not actually shipping anything out or responding to anyone? Is Business & Co officially out of business as they say? I’ve already filled a dispute with PayPal and should hopefully get my money back soon because they can’t reach anyone over there either but what gives? Did Marc pull a Dave Chappelle and peace out to Africa after that last round of limited boards?

He's just disrupting the skate industry by defrauding customers like every other "industry disrupter"

Exactly what I would expect from an operation called "Business & Co."

For the record I still respect Marc’s talent and all of the art that he’s created over the years despite this happening. I don’t know Marc personally but he doesn’t seem like the type to intentional harm or steal from people and besides PayPal is gonna credit my account likely. I genuinely hope the dude is alright and at least his skate career lives on if he’s not totally over it which I suspect might be the case

Just looking for answers people it’s been weeks since I placed my order and others ordered weeks before me. Received a tracking number but the box never made it to FedEx. Marc and Dan are not responding to customers or PayPal.

It’s like one of those sketchy company names that are so generic, that it’s nearly impossible to find any information on them if you need to search it up.

At this stage I would 100% say file a dispute with PayPal if they aren’t replying and you haven’t done already.
Regardless of if B+co is trying to swindell you, you’re without money after paying for a product weeks ago.

With how shitty the world is these days I’m not entirely sure this is Marc’s fault tbh. Dan could’ve killed him and is just pretending to send people their orders and is keeping the money. I’ve been seriously screwed over by a dude named Dan before so ya never know

I’ve ordered plenty from them with absolutely no problems. I’m sure something else other than the worst case scenario is happening. My orders were significant too, over 1k each time.

Relax, it's Marc's final ironic ploy with Business & Co. to imitate corporate greed by selling something to his fans with no intention on sending product.

Don't worry, the next short-skit is gonna be hilarious!

I’d be stoked for more funny skits but something just seems off imo. It’s not normal for these things to happen. He’s not making money if people are able to get their money back either. In these cases it shouldn’t be difficult if they aren’t responding and you order online. I ended up ordering the last BC board I could find in my size somewhere else and probably gonna wait to set it up until I know for sure if they are closed for good or not

Yeah I don’t doubt things were moving along fine before. I’m sure he probably still has a huge fan base too. Losing a heavy hitter when you’re trying to get the company started is pretty rough though. I’ve suffered a lot of hardships in my life but you have to keep pushing forward. I’ve also worked in the industry for years before and know it can be a very harsh and unforgiving place. It was an emotional time leaving and eventually losing everything I owned including my house but I also felt very relieved to step away

Your order’s just an idea put into action, every time you buy a deck it’s mostly in your head… your wallets just responding to what your head is telling it to do. You can buy any deck you want to. If you try it long enough. If you can think of it you can pretty much order it on a desktop computer, tablet or your phone.

I enjoyed the epicly later'd episode on Marc. That house he had looked awesome. Plus I wanted to see more of his old board collection. Especially the old Enjoi.
I've mentioned it before... but I WANT to like B & C but it looks like nothing is happening? I've had a few of the boards and they were great.

The skateboard industry was fun and exciting for awhile but in the end I found it to be a super harsh place to work. It was very tough to survive when I left 10 years ago. Covid had to have made it difficult to get started as well but people who you care about and help out will also sometimes screw you over for no reason leaving your life a complete mess and you don’t know how to pick back up. It happened to me. Everyone is trying to get theirs and some want far more than they can chew and people’s lives get destroyed. It’s just selfishness and narcissism really

Nothing specific comes to mind at the moment. I try to forget most of the horrible shit that happened honestly. I’m not a totally perfect person either and had my own issues back then. The money was certainly drying up though and everyone is trying to survive the way they know how or we’re taught. There’s a lot of jealously, greed, politics and bullshit you deal with like anywhere else I suppose. When everyone starts to turn on you including your strongest support systems and you’re physically and emotionally attached to something you love so much that’s when it gets scary and you have to make the choice to preserve whatever sanity and health you have left and dip out. Making that choice was extremely difficult but it felt right to leave even if I wasn’t welcome anymore

I had a business and co board when they first launched , I really dug the graphics and the shape. I have always been a huge fan of his skating, MJ was one of my favourites from 1999-2012. In my opinion, I think people soured on MJ because of the dissonance between his brilliant skating and his inability to resolve his personal challenges. Just because MJ was a skating hero to many in the 2000s....people though it would be predetermined he would overcome his issues like Reynolds, Ave and Guy ....and cement his legacy. The more people get educated about mental health and substance abuse in our skating community the more empathy people will feel for MJ.

MJ is prolly searching for whatever after his career. Most people when they decide to retire from a career end up doing random shit. hopefully he’s enjoying himself, and having a good time. Most guys that take a beating like that physically and most importantly psychologically(a lot of people don’t think of the psychological impact of having to make video parts consistently), tend to have a hard time transitioning into a new role in life. He seemed jaded about the skateboard industry in any interview you ever see with him, mainly about the way men handle their business ya know. He knows kids and even old ass adults trying to stay in the game use Instagram and all the other modern ways of trying to promote their skateboarding. Dudes old school and just didn’t want to be in the industry after everything changed, don’t blame him, would rather watch a 4 minute skateboard part back when men were noble on a board than whatever weird shit they have now.

I don’t see his career being over necessarily but just slowing down some. The natural progression of life. Running a company is a lot of work I’m sure. Hell he could probably just sell his paintings, drawings, and whatnot and just live off that if he really wanted to. Narcissists just don’t like it when people are informed about narcissism though, specially covert narcissists. People who are able to see this get treated the worst most of the time and it can make you jaded for sure. Skateboarding should only be about having fun on your board and enjoying life imo. Not trying to fuck people over every opportunity that presents itself. If more people just focus on that we will all be better off

I think you make a really good point

The best example I can give is this
I really only know about construction and for sure you can get shit pretty bang on if you take the time but sometimes deadlines and also shitty work by previous trades can have a cascade effect where all the work that went on top of it is all a bit Pete tong
But there are standards and there is stuff that may look wonky but it’s not technically a defect and someone in the industry would be like yeah cunt that’s fine I know that the concreting was all fucked and you didn’t quote on levelling it - just an example

Imagine putting your heart and soul into something and this fucking peanut gallery just picks your work and talks shit about how you put your hands down on a frontside flip or whatever
From the pros point of view maybe they are thinking Jesus Christ you little shit id been on tour a month I was fucking tired and sore and I just took that one, it’s fucking good enough

I done domestic work for full cunt clients that want the world on a platter for fuck all money and there is no pleasing cunts like that

I mean I’m not gonna stop roasting pros on slap cause from my point of view it’s not malicious I’m just trying to have a good time

But as I said, I think you made a good point there

No, that’s an awful take. You put something out - a product, a video part, a contest run, whatever - for the public to consume or purchase and the public can comment on it all it wants. If he didn’t want us to make fun of his stupid fucking company/skit/arm bending sleep syndrome, he didn’t have to put any of that out there for the public to know about.

…would rather watch a 4 minute skateboard part back when men were noble on a board than whatever weird shit they have now.
Ah, yes… the bygone days of noblemen on skateboards; I too yearn for these long past, glorious times.  ::)

Definitely went through a pantaloons phase during that era. Sessions made the best ones, November a close second.

It’s a real bummer because it should have (and could have) been so much better.

Happy to report I finally got the board I ordered. I can see how y’all might not like some of the graphics. Marc has a weird sense of humor for sure but B&C boards are made thru Bare Back Mfg which also makes Baker, Polar, Kayo, and DLX boards FYI

Well I wanna just let you know that there is a whole 140 or some odd page thread discussing woodshops and what board companies use said woodshops, pretty sure most people that use this forum understand that BBS is responsible for making half, if not more of the skateboards on the planet……Marcs sense of humor has been lost since he left enjoi just FYI

How good were those 8.25s with the 14” wheelbase though?
I skated with a flow dude for business and co at cream city and it was magical. Dude ruled.
Really good shape, I think the Dashawn toy machine decks are on the same shape
