Is there a reason people tend to name them something special even though saying "FS 180 switch smith" is enough and not cluttered? Also, how many are there?
I can think of these:
Bennet, Sugarcane, Grapefruit, Suciu, Hurricane
-
Someone should make a good explanation of each of the special 180 grinds because I still have no idea what they are
-
Barley grind
-
switch nosegrinds dont exist and i dont wanna hear ur conspiracy theories of how they do.

So does that mean 180 switch nosegrind is actually 180 switch 5-0? Should regular nosegrind just be called switch 5-0?
-
The Pupecki Grind
-
"Scoliosis grind", I also remember 180 nosegrinds being called euro grinds or reverse grinds depending on fs or bs
-
you mean m80 grind tricks?

180 switch nosegrind isnt a trick, there's 180 fakie nosegrind (that most people just call 180 nose grind) and there is 180 fakie 5-0
Also frontside 180 to switch backside 50-50 is a gonz grind
-
fs180 fakie 5-0 is called dieing- grind (rough translation) over here. And if you 'come back to life' it means you rotated back to regular
-
Backside 180 nosegrind back to regular is called a spanish grind.
In New Zealand, backside 180 to fakie 5-0 is called a dead or alive.
-
Also frontside 180 to switch backside 50-50 is a gonz grind
Did not know it was called that but I basically saw Gonz doing it on a curb in Video Days in my mind's eye as soon as I read it.

When I was young I "invented" the coke and Pepsi grinds. The coke or cocaine grind is a nollie to sugarcane(nose sugar). The Pepsi grind is halfcab to willy. (The fake version of the coke) they were both total dork tricks which were also no doubt done infinity times before I even knew what a skateboard was.

miko grind
-
Bs 180 nosegrind back to regs is a ‘Spanish’
-
skateboarding was made up by a bunch of 13 year old's lots of inconsistency. i wouldn't stress it too much.
-

True. It's much easier to say and parse "switch ollie to fakie backside 5-0"
-

Whats your thought process behind this statement?
As i see it, you switch ollie into a backwards front truck grind, thats a switch nosegrind.

Grinder? I Barley know her.

Gnarred for fantastic dad joke. Keep em coming slapper!

Stoked to see more mentions of "Spanish grind". That's a trick I've always done and the literal explanation name is too long, so when I noticed a bunch of Euro mags all calling them Spanish grinds I was hyped to see a consistent nickname for them. I fully back that becoming the standard name.

chin chin?

I absolutely back this. Any OGs who know? If you guys list them I'll collect it and then can post a new thread with the list.

Well, when it comes to 180s into sw nosegrinds then I'd be willing to accept that, but if you're rolling switch, the truck facing forward is your front truck, so a switch nosegrind makes absolute sense in that way. It would just be confusing to call it something else
-
What’s a Howard grind? I think it might be FS 180 to switch crooks or BS 180 to fakie five-o but I’m not sure.

it’s a fs 180 to switch crook but approaching backside, that’s how howard did them. like an overturned bluntslide i think. not sure if people call the frontside version that (an overturned front tail).
bs 180 fakie 5-0 is a pupecki

Well that’s the thing. In switch stance it reverses. So on switch fs overcrooks exist. Nosegrinds are only regular. Lol

If it’s a fs180 into the grind of your choice, many PALS refer to it as an Angry Little German grind.

I’ve heard this referred to as a Coffee Grinder.
It’s also so absurdly difficult. The one Jake Johnson did in the last few years over a fuckin bump to bar is utterly shocking.
-

Nollie 180 switch smith

Lmao

I always have felt knowing those names isn't really important just so long as you know enough terminology to explain the trick, it's all just local lingo anyway. Travel to different countries/scenes and you'll quickly see how many different names skaters have come up for the same tricks.
To the people saying there's no such thing as a switch nosegrind; popped switch, would you then call the trick a switch krook or a fakie suski? Also, popped switch, is it a fakie tail or a switch nose?
This "Spanish grind" too; just for clarification, are you all saying the second rotation is in the opposite direction of the first or in the same direction (so the skater completes a 360 rotation during the trick?
-
because it sounds way fuckin sicker. “i just learned back 180 switch smiths” L. “i learned bennett grinds” “what’s a bennett grind?” “your girlfriends favorite trick” W.
-
wow that would be a w. they’d be so embarrassed they asked lol
-
I believe the proper way of naming the trick is the spin to however the grind is done in regular stance,
Ex-
180 nosegrind (simple)
Switch 180 5-0 (regular 5-0)
Half cab 5-0 (also simple)
Half cab smith (you get it)
Half cab nosegrind (because you’re doing a nosegrind..)
Nollie 180 nosegrind (to what looks like a switch 5-0)
Nollie 180 5-0 (to what looks like a switch nosegrind)
The nollie tricks are opposites because you refer to the grind in regular stance
Another example lucas’s famous trick at macba,
Nollie frontside flip 5-0 to regular
If you do the trick switch, it’s called the regular grind, just done switch….
Ex-
Switch nosegrind
Switch 5-0
It sounds right and makes sense, end of discussion. Y’all are trippin if you think a switch nosegrind doesn’t exist.
-
I think the no such thing as a switch nosegrind comes from that weird transition when switch was first starting.(and predates crooked grinds) when switch Ollie being called fakie nollie briefly wasn't a total joke.
mostly in transition skating if you were going in reverse it was fakie even if you levered off the nose. Is it a fakie tailstall or a switch nosestall? Fakie thruster or switch bean to fakie(to regular just to add more confusion)
