"Good" socks are so much more comfortable but they are expensive!
Just curious if anyone knows where you can get lower priced but still high quality socks.
Like something akin to the vans classic crew sock that doesn't cost $15 for 3 pairs.
-
Dollar store, Ross and TJ.
-
I am rocking Mat and Vic's Diabetes socks.
Kinda thick, but not too thick and no seams around the toes. I am a princess when it comes to socks. 😅
-
I have size 8 feet and get annoyed how big socks often are….would it kill them to do three sizes?
-
Costco Puma's.
-
I got some fake Stance socks on Amazon that I swear are nicer than actual Stance socks.
-
I’ve gotten these puma socks from Costco and they fit well, keep their elasticity, and are comfortable. Thinner than vans socks for sure but good quality. 8 for $13.

thick socks: Dockers (https://www.amazon.com/Dockers-Cushion-Comfort-Sport-Assorted/dp/B00ND74ERW/ref=sr_1_3?crid=ZIF3MBS68MSQ&keywords=dockers+socks&qid=1647098904&rnid=7141123011&s=apparel&sprefix=%2Caps%2C2811&sr=1-3)
thinner/regular socks: Gildan (https://www.amazon.com/Gildan-Performance-Socks-12-Pairs-White/dp/B08WWG75JP/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=gildan%2Bsocks&qid=1647099091&sr=8-15&th=1&psc=1)
The Dockers are good for winter time and if you don't want to pay for HUF socks. The Gildan socks get the job done and I use them when I get shoes that are too tight with the Dockers.
Marshalls/Ross/T.J. Maxx is a good bet like Cthunderw said. You can get 6-packs of Adidas/Nike socks for $8-10.
edit: I've heard good things about Under Armour socks, which are cheap at Sam's Club. I've never gotten them because of the logo, but it's probably cool as long as you're not wearing highwaters.

My wife hooked me up with a bunch of high black Dickies socks as a stocking stuffer at Christmas. They’re pretty thick and comfortable and I doubt they were expensive. I usually wear them for work but they add a little extra padding skating in them.
-
I just buy whatever target brand crew socks they have and they’re pretty good, goodfellow I think it’s called? You can get a 6 pack for $10 usually.
-
I've been using these for a couple years. I think I currently have about 12 pair.

Yes, I like Stance better - but not enough to pay 6x as much for them.
I tried these cheap Dickies ones and my recommendation is steer clear. The only socks I have had that I wanted to toss before they had holes in them.
No sir, skip these: https://www.amazon.com/Dickies-Multi-Pack-Dri-Tech-Moisture-Control/dp/B008M5S09S/ref=sr_1_5?crid=156TJWEZW0I60&keywords=dickies+socks&qid=1647134745&sprefix=dickies+socks%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-5

Hanes 12 pack
-
For me it's Gold Toe
-
A six pair of adidas or Nike athletic crew socks can be found for 20 or less just about anywhere. Also Nordstrom Rack is another good spot for packs of socks.

I've owned some AKOENY socks before ALL of them caused stinkfeat. Other brands totally fine.
-
Dickies socks from Walmart are pretty nice they have a thicker sole on the sock
-
I usually grab Vans outlet socks. They're usually buy one pack get one free. So you get 6 pairs for like $15 after tax/
-
I'm also puma socking.
-
fxd socks, originally grabbed a 4 pack for cheap at a farm supplies shop but they're comfortable and breathable as fuck

Damn those dickies socks are what I wear 80% of the time, and what I skate in 100% of the time. If I skate in other socks I usually have a bad time. I would highly recommend but to each their own I guess.

From my experience, I haven't found cheap socks that have lasted me. I recently got some Carhartt force socks (3pk for under $20) and they've held up so far. Usually Vans and Hanes socks blowout all weird for me and slip super easily which is annoying while these have faired better.
-
Nike socks are awesome, i have some that are probably 3-4 years old.
-
Dickies socks
Pair of thieves plain socks
-
I rock the Dickies black crew socks too, never had any issues with them so not sure what other pals problems are
I also really like the Gilden half cushion polyester crew sock in white
If we’re talking nice socks I like Wigwam
-

can you hit me w a link pls :-*
i love the thicker stance socks and am on the hunt for socks that feel the same but dont cost as much

Costco Puma's.
I thought I was the only one. These socks are thin but have the various different support stretchy parts or whatever.
They come 8 for 10$ I think. Regardless a superb athletic sock, that is thin yet supportive. I’ve got them in white but they may have other colors.
I would also recommend Ross / TJ Max / Marshalls for discount graphic and colorful socks. On occasion they will have skate branded socks.
Marshalls and such, are also a great place to get throw blankets and decorative pillows. Kitchen items as well.

damn surprised you guys like those. i have them but i feel like i slide around in my shoes when i'm skating in them, especially when they start getting sweaty

Back in the day used to be able to get quality made fotl/hanes socks all day for cheap in huge packs and they lasted years. Since then socks have gone so downhill, you get what you pay for. I’ve been wearing gold toe mid calf socks for many years and they have never disappointed me. No thanks on the no-show socks, gotta be the crew/mid calf.

For the life of me I can't seem to find a pair of socks that does not blow out/form a hole from my big toe/toenail.
And yes, I do regularly cut my toenails. lol.
Anyone else have this issue/have recommendations for a brand specifically for this issue?

I have an issue where I get a little hole near my ankle. This is usually my biggest issue with socks. Gold toe socks, the guys at work talk about them like they are the goods.

I’m down for any quality cushioned sock that’s mostly cotton. Hate all the synthetics and polyester shit that makes my feet sweat more and stink.
For a few years now it’s been the nike everyday crew socks you can pickup a 6 pack at dicks for $12 when they semi regularly go on sale.
Not for skating but I picked up a six pack of no show underarmour cotton socks and they’re pretty nice we’ll see how they last

That's not a very high bar. Stance's turn stiff and lose all their flexibility within a couple washes. Worst skate socks I've every tried.
-
Can also sign off on Dickies socks being doo-doo.
New Balance socks from TJ Maxx/Marshalls are pretty good.

The regular and graphic ones I agree with this. I have about 20 pairs of the stance basketball socks that still feel like new and actually provide support in the right areas going on 4 years. I came up on them super cheap at a Ross. I think they were like $2.99 a pair, I originally bought 2 then went back and bought the other 18 pair on the shelf a day or two later

Tempted to try these as I thoroughly enjoy the Goodfellow brand boxers from Target. Haven't noticed they also had Goodfellow socks in that section of the store.
I'd like to add that Volcom "Vibes" socks are quality! They're my personal favorite right now. Comfortable, nice stretch, somewhat thick/padded, they feel protective, and they last! I get sweaty feet in EVERY sock I wear, so I'm not the best judge for determining "breathability" in socks.
Whenever Volcom does sales (which happen often enough) you can sometimes find these for $5 or less a pair, depending on how good the sale is for which colors they're clearing out. Also, if you are a regular Volcom customer like I am (love their pants/shorts and some of their button ups/tops) then you can always use reward points you've earned to cut the cost. We're no stranger to that tactic if we frequent the Sale Gear thread tho hahah
For how good they are, I'm willing to spend about $5 a pair and grab a couple at a time to swap out some other old ones. They're comparable to how good Stance is brand new, but less scratchy feeling.

I also wear mostly these. They don't last super long, but I don't get stinky or sweaty feet in them like I do in most socks.
My wife bought me some Bombas socks as a gift, that look goofy but are super nice. The price point is a little fancy for my blood though to restock.
This!

If you live near a Ross/TJ Maxx/Marshall's or Burlington type place then they usually have the Nike/adidas/vans ones for like $5.99/6 pairs.
Check the clearance rack too, they always have super cheap socks and underwear. You can get those fancy puma athletic easy breezy ball hugger jawns for like $1.99 a pair if you're effete enough to squeeze into a small or medium.
-
I've found all my favorite socks are made up mostly of cotton. Nylon and polyester make my feet sweat and feel like they're sliding around inside my shoe. Pretty much any reputable sportswear company has good cotton socks Nike, Under armour, new balance. Just check the tag for their blends as it varies by sock model.
-
I agree, it’s just a feel thing. I even love stance, but can’t skate them….in my day to day, one thing that I’ve come to realize is that if it’s raining, wear wool or poly….makes such a difference…
-
highly recommend Pair of Thieves ankle socks. great cushioning and the best feeling socks I own! can get them from Target or their online shop.
-
I have size 8 feet and get annoyed how big socks often are….would it kill them to do three sizes?
Me too. I’m size 8.5.
I’ve found that the black Hanes crew sox are the only cheap sock I can rock. I get them at Walmart or at the goodwill if I see packages not loose sox
The best socks I’ve ever had came from the army navy store.
They are made of an excellent wool blend are grey in colour and are tall. The toe has an R and an L on the bottom of them.
I haven’t got a pair in a while because I was getting them as factory seconds or something. When I found them in the store store they was 4x the army navy store.
Tip for pals.
If you got chronic foot rot or bad smelling feets. Go wool/cotton blend. Ax polly blends. Polly blends perpetuate foot fungus and stank toe.
