I notice Spenny does this a ton, and although I think he’s amazing it’s kind of annoying tbh. I get that maybe it helps with the setup, but I’m pretty sure it’s just become a habit at this point. Others are doing it also I’ve noticed.
Is this a new trend or has it always been around? What’s the history?
I’ll admit this is a frivolous, shit thread, but just wondering if other people notice this and what their opinions are.

some people dont want to get their pants dragged
so you have two choices
wear those stupid high waters, or lift your skirt ;D
or you could just wear pants that are the proper length

what is the history of pullin up pants slightly he says
is pullin up pants new he says
as long as your pants aren't below your ass or choking your nuts idc
also just wear whatever who cares
-
Haha kinda reminds me of the crotch grab/readjust people used to do.....
-
i adjust my pants because i have a flat ass so i have to hike them up before a trick or my asshole shows if i fall
-
its just to get your pants ready for the acrobatic manuever youre about to attempt - not just a skating thing. baseball players do it constantly. pants hike itself is benign, it will take on the characteristic of the person doing it. A dork hiking their pants up is dorky, a bad ass doing it is bad ass

This applies to almost every "rule" people have about skating.
-
In Bloom era P was pretty prolific at adjusting his Rod pre trick
Which was the style at the time

I’ve brought this up on here before and even asked it to The Bunt boys. Some people claim knee stick, ankle drag, etc. whatever. I personally observe it as either a nervous tick (a-La the Reynolds 3 rule), or fake steeze habit. I’m not a fan either way, and it detracts from the skating. That’s just me tho.
Guilty parties, Spenny and PRod included, will do it in shorts and joggers. Find your evidence as need be.
-
it helps prior to popping
-
I know so many people who used to do this because of prod
-
Worst offender of this violation is that scumbag Jagger Eaton.
-
When the crotch of your pants hangs too low it can restrict the movement of your legs, which is how skateboard tricks are mostly done; with your legs.
Been happening since at least the goofy boy days when we were rocking some ridiculously baggy pants.

I dno , TJ rogers gigantic baggy pants have him doin this before literally everytrick
-
Peter Smolik. Case Closed.
-
feels good
-
I’m thinking about inventing some shit that goes around the waistband that holds your pants up so we don’t have to do this shit anymore, it gets annoying after a while

All this negative talk, blasphemy.

Man literally opens his part with a pants hike.

Every time I’m about to do a trick I look like I’m putting out an invisible cigarette on the tail of my board for like three seconds pre-pop. Imagining how freakish it would look if I didn’t wear a belt and so performed both of these tics simultaneously.
-
I fucking do this and I know it’s because of Paul, Wade and Spenny - mostly Wade
It just works man idk it sets up the pants with a little crease on the thigh so when you pop it opens and you feel so loose and free
I wear a belt and used to crop my pants and I still did it so idk I’m just fucked
-
P-Rod invented this, obviously
-
Nic boserio does it and that makes it okay. I’ve done it but it’s bc of knee stick.
-
If you have to keep adjusting your clothes while actually skating then you're wearing the wrong clothes. Pants tug is equal to fixing your hair. Do it before you get on or not at all
-
Doesn't happen on the regular but it has happened. Sometimes your pant leg rests on your shoe weird
-
mike york in mouse pioneered the pre-trick pants-hike
-
Sometimes it’s not the pants that need adjusting. I just gotta wiggle my underwear back into place
-
I sweat a lot and my pants/jeans get soaked causing them to stick to my knees. It’s not an issue in shorts or sweat pants(rarely skate sweats). It definitely restricts movement and I hate it because it looks so weird sometimes.

Real man talk
-
It’s so the pants don’t make contact with the grip when you pop. Otherwise, you sand down, fray, and rip through the bottom of the pants.
-
In the days of ridiculously large pants, I remember my heel getting stuck on the bottom of my jeans as I crouched to do any trick or after pushing. Thus I pre-trick pant hiked oft.
-
my girlfriend used to do that when she skated more, I thought it was the sickest flex. said she got it from playing basketball.
-

Ray Barbee 2.00 disagrees.

The baggy pants Era was fucking gold for this
-
It's the equivalent to a basketball player hiking their shorts up before defending a tough opponent. Probably has some basing in helping get the pants out of the way of your legs, probably has more to do with mentally getting in the right head space to shut that shit down though.
-
that kid toby bennett who i think rides for WKND and has the quick feet does this a lot.
doesn't really bother me, i like that kids skating. his part in this video looked cool, below is the example that comes to mind. i absolutely love that one foot mid line.

Hear, hear! Tailoring is underrated.
-
Is it really about the pants length tho? They do it in muay thai every 0.4 seconds. Very annoying
-
I do this a lot. I also sweat a lot and the first thing that gets sweaty on my legs are my knees. My friends find this hilarious. If I have pants where it clearly shows that they’re sweaty, I’ll have completely damp knees before any swamp ass. So I do it to avoid my knees sticking to the pants. Would be nice not to have to do it but I’m no style king anyway so I’m fine with it.

Anyone thinking this is about pants falling down, pants too baggy you need to pull them up, needing a belt, etc. are scrubs.
Anyway, I still kinda have a habit of doing the "grab my pants at the knee between my thumb and index finger and tug just slightly just enough that a little sock is showing" before hitting a ledge trick. 100% nervous tick and fake steeze, but whatever I've been doing it since I was like 14 so my midwit brain has incorporated it into my skate life.
-
Yeah the pre-trick pants hike is not a good look lol.

i always imagined it starts with a pair of pants gone wrong and then it just turns into a nervous tick / coping mechanism
-
I first noticed this with Wade D and his legendary fits in the Kayo vid way back.
Wasn’t Spenny one of those giant white tee shirt Canadian kids way back? Could be ingrained force of habit.

Who's the user on here with a signature that is a guy doing two separate crotch adjustments mid manual? That's what this thread is making me think about, haha.
