This is really cool. Gonna buy his book once it comes out.

Looks to me like Ed really does just copy shit out of his massive art book collection. Fake ass David Hockney swimming pool paintings. Didn’t even think up the logo to his company, just lifted it off a light switch plate or something equally as trife.
-
Did he just get a new house? I swear they've filmed this entire thing before.

This felt like an ON! video segment or something. really enjoyed this big time and wish there was way more content like this coming out on the thrasher site rather than random shop videos and other crap with people ive never seen before and will never see again.
Tempster is the best!

@doublesteveburger same but part of me thinks Ed. Templeton's use of non archival house paints for his artwork might fuck up his art career. Collectors get really upset if they buy a painting and it degrades and falls apart because of "fugitive materials".

Jackson Pollock used Valspar. but i guess the sheer volume of paint he used probably has an effect on the longevity of his pieces

I'm going to guess Sherwin-Williams, unless another poster wants to set the record straight with the actual brand he used.

Ed’s a creeper and shouldn’t be around teenagers or skateboarding in general. It pains me to say this because I admired him back in the day but can’t ignore the obvious.
-
I feel like Toymachine has aged well along with Ed footage, it's not alot of 90s skaters releasing brand new footage

I really don't get people calling him a creep that much. Any background newsstory I'm missing?
Mostly his Instagram of going to the beach and taking photos of young unsuspecting women and then getting EXTREMELY defensive about it when people criticize it. In one case he even played victim when a women actually confronted him about it on the beach.
Not to mention Toy Machine soliciting a known rapist to do a graphic and then trying to sweep it under the rug when people called them out on it.

That Twitter exchange is a good example of whenever someone calls him out for doing that, his immediate response is how it's "legal". I remember a few years ago he went online to post about a woman confronting him and calling him a creep and he was shocked and appalled because it was "technically legal".
I dunno, it gives me no pleasure to criticize Ed/Toy cuz I grew up a massive fan, but this kinda behavior is so uncomfortable and not cool.

you guys are surprised a guy who was a skateboarder/artist his whole life, who has always had a history of being a weirdo, is an actual weirdo?
whether you agree with his creepy photos and comments or not, he hasn't physically harmed anyone. he's just a fucking weirdo. Welcome to the world!

I just checked his instagram (@ed_templeton) and most of it on there is definitely not photos of young unsuspective women. Does he have some other account that I'm not aware of?

Maybe he's cooled off on it or maybe a lot of them were story posts, but if you check the tweet that someone else responded with, it was somewhat of a routine thing.

Never said it was “flooded”, never called anyone a pedo, and for the the third time, an example has been posted.
Don’t salivate on your keyboard as you drool trying to read these two sentences, you simpleton.

Salivating at the chance to call someone a peado
3-4 years ago, his IG was mostly daily pictures of people on the Huntington Beach pier. I’d say maybe around 15-25% of his pics were of underage girls/boys. When anyone would call him out on it, he’d get super defensive and claim there was nothing illegal about it.
I’m not saying the guy is a full blown pedo, but he’s talked about how he’s attracted to underage girls in the past.
I think people are warped by sex a lot of the time. Even Deanna and me-I wouldn’t say we have any weird backgrounds. Everyone’s first experience is weird. You kind of shape your life by that. All that stuff’s really interesting. I lost my virginity when I was 14 to a 24 year old woman. And now I have this obsession with young girls almost.
DN: Cause you missed out on that shit?
Ed: I don’t know, sometimes I think that’s what it’s about. Some people have this block toward people who are under 18, like, “Oh, this person is under 18, gross.” I find myself saying, “Man that girl’s really hot.” Not to the point where I’m like, “I wanna fuck that little girl,” but it’s weird. I’m like, “Why aren’t I freakin out like this guy? Why aren’t I so weird about it?” Maybe I’m just more open with my sexuality where I can admit, “That girl’s really beautiful.” I like the aesthetic of Jock Sturge’s book-it’s beautiful and weird at the same time. It explores that weird area that people have a lot of trouble with.
Full interview here:

Edit: do not look up any Jock Sturges books. I feel like I’m on a list now. Smh

Im not going anywhere near calling ed whatever accusation but it's just that classic attitude of I'm an artist I'm allowed to do anything I want and you're not allowed to question me. I made teenage smokers you should be kissing my ass.
-
Just want to add that in one of his interviews he spoke about not being classically trained as an artist bc he never went to art school, so he never learned being criticised and handling criticism. I found this quite interesting to see why he's so defensive about his work.

This. It's documentary photography. He's just a photog taking pictures of people. If he wanted to get off of some kids I'm sure he could just browse the internet. There's nothing sexual about these pictures at all.
I shoot street/documentary photography work aswell. I photograph old people, poor people, little kids, babies, beautiful women, ugly women, tough guys, homeless people, whatever. Just whatever I find interesting. Does that mean I'm a weirdo?

Ahhh the classic “it’s art, you wouldn’t understand” - nobody is directly saying he’s a pedo - but even an art snob or fanboy has to admit that he targets younger people for his photography.. It’s just strange for a man his age to be so fascinated with young girls, why is that so hard to grasp?
In his words;
Oh, this person is under 18, gross.” I find myself saying, “Man that girl’s really hot.” Not to the point where I’m like, “I wanna fuck that little girl,” but it’s weird. I’m like, “Why aren’t I freakin out like this guy? Why aren’t I so weird about it?

Well, let's not kid ourselves here. If you were to edit your photos down to underage ice cream eaters for a book called 'Lick', you might get a few people perceiving something suggestive about your work. Indeed, I'd wager that's both intentional and, in part, where the potential artistic value might come in. It seems silly to pretend there is no allusion here at all, in any case.

Jk.
within the world of art The male gaze is pretty played out that would be my main criticism if any. Anyone wanna discuss the topic of the nude let’s have at it. there’s loads of artists that fucked underage women in their studios and travels but that’s not a justification. What I’m saying is I’m ready for hardcore gay sex imagery and 917 didn’t deliver, pathetic

I'm a big fan of Templeton's art and skating, but what he said at the end is pretty jaded. Like I get the message, we all could be artists in our own rights and don't need to get a degree in it, yet unlike Templeton, for the most part we don't have the opportunity like him through skateboarding to make a living out of it. He just seemed pretty jaded with his "knighting" talk, I don't think people go up to him and are saying they aren't a photographer or painter because they didn't go to art school, but that they aren't able to make a living out of it like Templeton is.
-
I've been on a pretty bad case of being miserable. I had to go to the old hardware store, and I was so bummed having to do it. I was in the paint aisle and I say the valspar paint and chuckled. Everyone totally looked at this weirdo laughing to himself looking at a can of paint. Thanks for the laugh everyone, now every time I see valspar I'm going to chuckle and maybe one day actually tell someone that one dude used it for paintings.
