Title: Favorite snacks?
Post by: Freelancevagrant on May 10, 2022, 04:37:03 AM
I had a little Debbie oatmeal crème pie for breakfast. I’ve always been a big fan but I realized I can comfortably say that these are my favorite snacks.

What about you? What snacks are your favorite? Is there any that aren’t in your country that you wish were?

Let’s hear. Expecting a lot from my fellow big boys out there!

Not much of a snacker to be honest. I’ll have the odd chocolate chip cookie once in a while but that’s about it.

My one major weakness is Jalapeno Cheddar Doritos. Since that shit is like crack to me, I limit myself to once a week. I can make a bag disappear in 5 minutes.

Oh god here we fukn go. I got the worst snack habits let's not judge.
Sweet: I often will buy multiple packets of candies and mix them all together (but of the same type of candy)and have these containers on the ready. Sour patch kids all types.
The old starburst I can't find anywhere anymore not the little squares in paper it's just like snakes, fruits or babies gummies.
Red, green apple and purple licorice
Normal Cadbury chocolate (Australian not British) boosts, Fry's Turkish delights, mars bars, m&ms, Caramello koalas, fredo frogs
Chocolate hot cross buns, yogos

Savoury: toasted ham and cheese, meat pies, pizza rolls (not like a pizza pocket it's just something in the bakery bit of Aus supermarkets) whatever chips are like kettle. Fuck thins and those soggy natural chips.

Coke/Pepsi, dare/ice break/oak ice coffees both instead of food when I was broke but also often I won't eat until after I'm finished working or skating so these keep me going.

Completely agree, if a crisp doesn't offer a phatty crunch I do not want it  ::)

Sticking to @Freelancevagrant 's Little Debbie theme to start things off, the pecan spinwheels have been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. https://www.littledebbie.com/www/snackproducts/view/50/pecan-spinwheels (https://www.littledebbie.com/www/snackproducts/view/50/pecan-spinwheels)
Followed closely by the Nutty Buddy wafer bars. https://www.littledebbie.com/www/snackproducts/view/53/nutty-buddy (https://www.littledebbie.com/www/snackproducts/view/53/nutty-buddy) I like to separate each layer and eat them individually.

I have an insatiable sweet tooth so there are plenty of candies that I love, I'm more of a chocolate guy than a fruity candy guy.  One of my all time favorites is Rolos https://www.hersheyland.com/rolo (https://www.hersheyland.com/rolo) but only the rolos in the cylindrical tube, not the individually foil wrapped ones that come in a bag, I swear there is a difference.  A candy bar that I love which I feel flies under the radar for most people is the Zero bar https://www.hersheyland.com/zero (https://www.hersheyland.com/zero), it's great.

Savory stuff I like would be BBQ baked potato chips, summer sausage on a ritz with some pepperjack cheese and spicy mustard.

These Totopos might be too "healthy" for this thread but, these with some homemade salsa or guac, I can easily go through an entire bag if I'm not paying attention. Luckily, not available in Japan.

Also love almost any brand of salt and vinegar chips.

These as well:

And these; they are like the super fried/crunchy bits of Mickey D's French fries you get at the bottom of the fry bag/box, except it's an entire container of them. They come in regional and seasonal flavors as well, but cheese is the always available favorite. I think my all-time favorite was the tomato basil one though.

These are also good; the texture is like a soft/puff Cheeto. They also come in various flavors, but I think natto is my favorite.

Healthier snacks: Mixed nuts are my favorite.

Candy: Reese's peanut butter cups.

Chips: Deep River Snacks aged cheddar and horseradish chips, and Wise crunchy cheese doodles. I think they're better than Cheetos.

Frozen treats: Haagen-Dazs raspberry sorbet. I highly recommend it.

Edit: Almost forgot Andy Caps hot fries.

I've been on a fruit kick for a while.... Lots of raspberries and blackberries but I remain unwavering in my devotion to cotton candy grapes. Dip that shit in vanilla Noosa yogurt for a sweet and refreshing night time snack.

Im still trying to put on weight so loads of almond butter and perfect bars too.

So berries and nuts. I might be a bear.

I cant remember the brand but there’s these maui onion kettle chips that are slappers.

Reisen
Take 5 (and Take 5 peanut butter)
Choco peanut butter eggs from the local churches
Gummies of all shapes and sizes
Red and blue Gushers
Green apple licorice
Twizzlers mystery flavor

Aldi has a great buffalo cauliflower dip that I love, they also have some banging salsas.

I’ll be back with more.

My main snack is usually trail mix

I keep a large gallon type bag in the cupboard and pour it into my mouth when I get hungry

Then I don’t get crumbs on my keyboard when I go back to work on my computer

I dated this girl from New Zealand for quite a while, one time she went back for a few weeks and brought back some Cadbury Crunchies for me. They became my favorite candy bar, but I’ve only ever had them when she brought them back or when I went to Australia. I’m also a big fan of Pay Day’s too.

Yes here we go so snack beef. Gonna say violet crumble is superior to crunchie. Crunchie just turns into plastic and sticks to your teeth. Crunchie Easter eggs tho might be the actual king of honeycomb chocolate

I haven’t been able to have both side by side (or even within a year of each other) so you may well be right.  I can only find violent crumble here in the states, I don’t have a good crunchie supplier. Maybe it’s the experience of being in England AND having a crunchie that made it so good…

Haven’t had a crunchie in 9 years and I’m going to order some just to break that cycle. I also don’t have a crunchie plug and I could be looking back at them through rose colored lenses.

But when I have both and Crunchie is obviously superior, I’m coming straight back here and starting a blood feud with @meansalto

(Tbh I think crunchie and violet crumble are the same candy just different names for different markets)

I can't tell you how many Crunchies I shacked while I was in England. Absolutely S tier candy bar. There's also an Australian version called Violet Crumble but for some reason it just doesn't hit the same...
[close]
Yes here we go so snack beef. Gonna say violet crumble is superior to crunchie. Crunchie just turns into plastic and sticks to your teeth. Crunchie Easter eggs tho might be the actual king of honeycomb chocolate
[close]

I haven’t been able to have both side by side (or even within a year of each other) so you may well be right.  I can only find violent crumble here in the states, I don’t have a good crunchie supplier. Maybe it’s the experience of being in England AND having a crunchie that made it so good…
[close]

Haven’t had a crunchie in 9 years and I’m going to order some just to break that cycle. I also don’t have a crunchie plug and I could be looking back at them through rose colored lenses.
[close]

But when I have both and Crunchie is obviously superior, I’m coming straight back here and starting a blood feud with @meansalto

(Tbh I think crunchie and violet crumble are the same candy just different names for different markets)
Ha I've probably bitten off more than I can chew here (pun intended) I think violet crumble is mars and crunchie is Cadbury. Cadbury is by far the better chocolate but the yellow bit inside doesn't fuck with my teeth as much or make me get thirsty with the violet crumble whereas it tends to with the crunchie. All honesty I have both about the same Aus doesn't have huge selections at the supermarket and basically it's always one brands on special while the other is full price then they swap. I'd never pay twice as much for one over the other.

Extra toasty cheez-its.

Also, chunks or slices of sharp cheddar, smothered in sriracha is super legit.

this has been my shit lately:

it's like emptying the cream out of your oreos/hydrox cookies, crushing up half the cookies, mixing them back in with the cream, and then they put that stuff between two chocolate wafers. i can't not finish these the same day i get them. they are too good.

i can inhale a whole bag of these in 15 seconds:

also any softdrink with watermelon or guava flavor will get checked out by me.

Yessssss motherfucking pom bears. The salt and vinegar were my favorite but ketchup sounds amazing.  I fucking love ketchup chips and they're so hard to find in the states. We could only get pom bears off-base or from the British garrison's little shop/restaurant thing, so I would always stock up on shit like that when I went out in the city. I must have looked so fucking stupid stumbling back through the gate hammered out of my mind with a giant bag of German junk food over my shoulder.

This is my snack rotation…..

Pre skate: banana
Mid skate: apple
Post skate: granola bar

The point of the snack rotation is the balance between being good, but not too good….filling…but not too filling.

You must repeat ie. you eat that granola bar….you want another….but knowing that you have to eat an apple and a banana…..forget it….

Anybody else have specific snacks they always want for road trips?  For me I always have to have a bag each of Pizzeria Pretzel and Pepperoni Pizza Cracker Combos.

Man, I drunk drove waaaay too many times with a big bag of pizzeria pretzel combos and 32oz fountain drink. I remember when it cost $2 for both. That was a dark fucking period. Killer Whaaaaaaale.
I love B&J’s Chubby Hubby but it’s not as good as I remember it or maybe just not as special since my local supermarket stocks it reliably.
Kettle chips and top of the tater.
My contribution to halfway adult/healthy snacking:
Your favorite cracker ( I currently like cracked pepper & olive oil triscuits), slice of cheese (god help you if you think cubes are acceptable), thinly sliced sweet yellow onion, and drizzle with sriracha

Vegemite and sprinkles sandwich/bread
My mother's sister discovered it when her mother (my grandmother) said she needed to eat something healthier than bread with sprinkles (or fairy bread) all the time. in order to achieve this, she started putting vegemite on the bread as well.
to pretty much anyone vegemite is horrid, to australians vegemite with sprinkles is inconceivable. but i invite you to try it, as it's unexpectedly very good

I find myself going through waves with snacking. Some months, I catch myself buying packs of cookies, pastries, cakes, and similar shit on a weekly basis. Other months, I avoid the sweets altogether and go for nuts or fruit cups. I think my snacking correlates to how my mental well-being is at that moment in time.lol
BUT, my favorite snack as of late has been this homemade hummus my partner and I made. We followed a standard hummus recipe, but added our own flavors like gochujang, kimchi kick powder, and a good amount of fresh garlic. Best thing I've ever added to any sandwich or bagel.

Krispy Kreme teevee snacks. Pref the pink ones but all are good. Teevee snacks are just a little box of biscuits (or cookies to Americanos) usually in varied shapes and flavours. The Krispy Kreme crossover are donut shaped and have icing. I first had them maybe a year ago and thought they sucked they were so hard I had to put them in coffee for a second just to be able to bite thru them. Got them again and maybe they're literally the same batch from back then but they were soft and real good only prob is I can eat a whole box in about two mins.

Got a Costco membership today and I immediately grabbed a tub of those peanut butter pretzels when I saw them.  They are in fact the bomb.

Haven’t tried it yet but also grabbed a bag of this Snickers popcorn;

Costco definitely has a dangerous selection of enticing snacks.  Kept it pretty tame today though, mostly went to buy Kirkland boxer briefs.  They may be inedible, but they’re easily the best fit/quality/value when it comes to mens undergarments.

I am in Amsterdam for a few more days, if anyone can suggest snacks to try I will hunt some down.

I’ve seen Pom bears, something I was looking for but no ketchup flavored to be found yet, frank  ;)

I’m well acquainted with Trader Joe’s items, they are near and dear especially now that my brother works for them. They offer a 20% discount to employee spouses so while I could possibly pass myself off as his husband to reap the benefits, until the courts allow siblings to wed, I’d rather not risk him getting in trouble.

Ps, don’t bother suggesting magic truffles, I’m here with my mom and we’re tripping tomorrow so fingers crossed all goes well.

Been on a frozen blueberry/trader joes peanut butter pretzel kick recently. I like the tj’s pb pretzels a lot, like 2.50 for a decent sized bag that generally lasts me about a week-week and a half.

Also, the unique snacks extra dark splits pretzels are so good albeit pricey. would highly recommend if you want to splurge a bit. I like the charred flavor and they have a super good crunch to them.

I somehow think being able to make popcorn on the stove makes me a master chef….not a single kernel….
