this sucks, i’d take that blue jersey though
-
another poser collab
-
Never been a fan of Palace.
-
More power to them, they support bunch of great skateboarders by doing these kind of stuff.
-
This is bordering on being silly!
As long as they keep making great videos, they can do the most out there collaborations for all I care.

Not really my cup of tea, but hope the skaters are getting paid.

Better than that Lacoste thrasher Collab
-
hard

I guarantee you'd get more grief from your group of pickup soccer players than you would at the skatepark for wearing that gucci jersey.
-
I look forward to buying $20 bootlegs off DHGate
-

Like anyone that skates will buy this shit, all good for Palace thou take that money and run. I'm betting a complete will cost less than that jersey.
-
pretty cool video
-
TBF they've all been wearing Gucci loafers since about 2005 so a nice load of freebies. The brainstorming sessions between Palace and the people they collaborate with must be hilarious, a bunch of suits getting told that unless the ads are a pisstake it's a no haha.
-
And Palace boards always last me wayy longer than Quasi or GX boards.
-
Every collab between skate and non-skate companies - "Fucking sellout kooks"
Palace collab with non-skate company - "Oh, how wonderful! Good for them!"
I'm so happy the company that charges $80 for a re-labeled cotton Gilden t-shirt finally has an opportunity to make some money!

Get a load of this guy thinking our fakie lord and savior Daniel Brady doesn’t deserve that bag.
I’m an aging crust punk who wouldn’t be caught dead rocking Palace gear but you’re tripping if you don’t think they crush it time and time again. This is skateboarders milking big industry while still maintaining core credibility because they’re all just skaterats at the end of the day.

It's funny because some fashion snobs I work with would say Gucci are selling out by collabing with Palace haha. The fact of the matter is that Gucci need Palace's youthful audience more than the other way around, else they just wouldn't do it... Same with 90% of the collabs they do. And the way these guys market it is like they're just a bunch of blokes who've won a competition.
The biggest selling out happens when Girl, Lakai and Habitat do outrageously cringe and hollow collabs with things like Hello Kitty and Bob's burgers on the off chance that super fans of these things will shell out for some cheaply made tat to go with their collection which makes the company some money.
The biggest Kook shit is when the owners and riders are lying that they fuck with this insanely cringe shit to get the bag.
Palace collab with brands, musicians and drinks that they actually fuck with.

i think they showed a snippet of a palace/gucci video in the IG ad, need to see a clip in the gucci loafers

If Palace get sold for $500 million to BlackRock I called it. Hard to hate on Palace considering how great they treat their riders which in our industry is out of the norm...eg:Crailtap

I’m not a fan of most of Gucci’s stuff but this ain’t bad. Not paying full price but will absolutely be getting a rep of one of those baseball tees (or raglans whatever they’re called) if possible.

At least in London the Gucci stores seem to be frequented by a young, non-white crowd. Often queues outside. The Palace shop is always pretty much dead (unlike Supreme), and the only time there's a queue is when a collab drops. Nobody wants Palace on its own (basically a million different sweatshirt/t-shirt designs).

So what you're implying is... Palace are trying to reach their bread and butter target audience of young people by collabing with Gucci because apparently their clothes aren't doing well and their store isn't busy on non drop days?

Nahhh. Lol wut? Their tees are definitely not no Gildan. I worked in production center that made shit for a lot brands and helped with prep on occasion, ripped off many a AAA and Gildan tags... Not saying Palace shit is some egyptian cotton but their shit def is not Gildan. I have a tee I got from End in 2013, very minor fading on the fabric, cracking is minimal too considering how old it is. I would say tee quality is more comparable to LA apparel, but pretty sure they've had have their own blanks for a while now.
Also where have you seen $80 tees from palace? Never seen a basic screen printed for that much unless on secondary market.

The Palace shop is quieter than supreme because they release way more of everything online rather than trying to create false scarcity. See way more people wearing palace than supreme pretty much everywhere I go, Supreme has died off pretty hard as shown by the epic drop in resale prices for it.

It really does feel like some skate companies are just licensing these shits and passing it off as a collabs.
Like how much collaboration is happening when they pick an illustration that can be found on Google Images, and just swap to using the cartoon's font. "Inspect Element" type shit, no?
I feel like there should be proverbial venn diagram happening for a collab to actually make sense... Idk maybe I'm expecting too much here?

The inverse in California. Only people I see wearing Palace are rich foreign students in the Bay Area who obviously don’t skate at all. I have some palace stuff and no shops sell it here whereas we have two supreme stores on the coast and everyone and their mom has supreme gear plus it’s not hard to get anymore. England only has the one store. I noticed lots of people in London wearing palace tho and yeah the store was pretty empty when I went the couple of times.
Anyone listen to the Olson interview with Gucci?

Who on the Gucci team fucks with skaters? They hook up a lot of really cool musicians and some skaters too. I don’t think we’ll see Alessandro Michele do a kick flip on some Roman cobblestone anytime soon but who knows.

Funny because thats exactly what happens. I designed collabs for my old job and Warner Brothers and DC comics for example would give us a link to a private website with a shitload of vector images and fonts. All I had to do was copy and paste the characters onto a cool background and made sure it looked good on the product we were printing it on.

This is fucking sick. I've been skating since '94 so have every right to be like "Fuck this. Skating needs to be core." Fuck that. It's 2022. I'm stoked that Lev has been able to escalate what started as a core little company to being the first brand Gucci has ever collaborated with. I think it's authentic too because it's shit that Lev is into and probably never dreamed could happen. And I don't even have any desire to own or wear any of this stuff. It's just sick that it's happening.

I don't know how true this is but saw this on Twitter. Not that skaters really wanted this but now it's like you can't even if you tried. There is prices on that Twitter account too and they are higher than I even thought. The white soccer jersey is $1,290 when I thought it'd be $800. That leather jacket is $16K!

Back to the topic.
My humble opinion, it's just marketing. Whether that was better or worse than the collaboration with e.g. AMG or Salomon shoes. I dont know. In terms of PR, they remain on everyone's lips.
But the degree is very narrow too... as a deterrent example: Ed Hardy!
So be careful who you sleep with!^^

The cologne is actually really good.
I think CK being an outlet brand at this point kinda killed it for most people.

except palace was doing this shit before either of those. I mean palace sponsored someone who won Wimbledon, Juventus, not to mention the collabs with stella artois, polo, CK, kickers, among others. they played a pretty big role for this generation of skaters, for better or worse. not to mention their decks are in all of my local shops, something that can't be said for supreme or any other of those upper crust brands.
in the grand scheme of things, who gives a rats ass.
-
I think it's still hilarious how Palace started off as a meme, and has turned into a brand perceived to be of some sort of prestige among people outside of skating, and Lev is seeing how far he can take it.

Palace doesn’t promote hellride branding.
Not to mention Gucci is way boujee than Lacoste which is mostly in Marshall’s, the fact they even wanted to collab with them is impressive in itself.
It is corny though and undoubtedly going to be Gucci prices so it’s completely unattainable for regular skaters
-
Wack. But then again Palace is wack and so is Gucci. Stupid money culture.

U a weirdo making shit up bruh. Wtf is hipster at this point it's not 2010
Virgil actually skated as a kid. If the pics of him skating in the 80s or the fact he built skateparks in Africa doesn't convince you he was for the culture then idk what would... just it seems weird to randomly throw a dead person into this..
Not everyone that skates makes it to your rando criteria of veteranship.
KC Rookie confirmed on SusSupplyCo when u tried to pretend that Palace prints on Gildan and charges $80 for tees but were unwilling to say where you've ever seen a $80 Palace tee that wasn't from secondary market.

ah palace and polo, that was a collab for the ages. timeless.
i like a lot of the palace/gucci pieces but the novelty of high fashion skate crossover has completely worn off, it usually just comes across clueless and desperate, like when supreme collaborated with lv and there was the skateboard with the trucks mounted on backwards. and the skateboard trunk. this one is better because there’s no reference to skating but it’s still pointless and kinda gross to me, how eager they are to make stuff for the purpose of flaunting wealth.

They've always been hi / lo mix. The name PWBC is basically connoting hi and low. Pretty sure Lev was working at DSM (or in cahoots with?) before all the masses started caring about fashion /streetwear, before Palace was even a full on brand

worst palace collab imo was arc teryx. they just got shell jacket and slapped a embroidered logo on.
-
Every collab between skate and non-skate companies - "Fucking sellout kooks"
Palace collab with non-skate company - "Oh, how wonderful! Good for them!"
I'm so happy the company that charges $80 for a re-labeled cotton Gilden t-shirt finally has an opportunity to make some money!
My thoughts exactly

They've never printed on Gildan.
https://shop-usa.palaceskateboards.com/collections/t-shirts
S/s $48
L/s $58
Most brands charge about $35-$45 for their s/s on actual Gildan or Alstyle.
Palace charging slightly more for better quality / producing their ow nblanks with their own patterns make sense

I'll get the motorbike I think
I’ll tow you to do a trick over the rail at South Bank.

A bunch of bitch ass Mikey Taylors in this thread.... "if they're making money good for them"
Capitalism has rotted your pathetic brains... all you dumb motherfuckers are the reason skateboarding can't sustain its own brands anymore.
You love Palace, you love the horse-face, probably an elon musk fan too. yuck.
This.
That whole "get that money" shit is so lame.

I don’t get this Collab thing. I’m getting old and skateboarding has changed. Back in the day when a skateboard brand got big, non skate people would wear it. But it would still be skate stuff. Now skatebrands get big and sell their core Soul to suck some fashionista/corpo bs and penetrate a whole new market.
Remember when it was skate owned local stuff is best, fuck big corpo and their money, trying to get street cred? Guess the future is now, and I’m old man.
I don’t get it and I don’t care anymore.
That said, this add is weird and cringe af.

Pretty hilarious to blame capitalism for Palace existing. Skateboarding is a marketplace and always has been. You have the freedom to buy and support whatever you want, start a brand today, and express yourself however you want. That's actually what capitalism is about. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Acting like somehow all these core brands were super high quality, when a lot of the big brands were putting out absolute dog crap quality. All the big brands made their stuff in China/Vietnam. Now you've got Dime/Polar among others who actually make stuff in NA/EU.
Hate collabs? Don't buy it.
Hate the hypebeast companies? Ignore them.
Support what you like. Make shit people actually like, and don't cry on forums about how the world ruined everything for you.

Gucci need Palace's youthful audience
(https://i.ibb.co/g46qQqd/Screenshot-20221016-095934.jpg)
Do they though?
I know some of you guys only think in skateboarding but why would gucci need skateboarding when they already are synonymous with the rap/hiphop genre. The lil pump song shit but a good example here. when Gucci got rappers name dropping them for 1.1 billion views... do you think they really interested in cashing in on whatever lil niche of an audience theyd find in palace has? I mean more than likely those people are already onboard anyways considering the trends hip hop and skateboarding share more tethered than ever these days. Hypebeast zoomers or whatever the fuck.
In 2022 palace benefits more from this from a notoriety standpoint than gucci. It's fucking gucci lol.we talking a brand that teters at the top of women's fashion and accessory aswell as one of the most popular genres of music. Gucci is assured it'll sell and that's about all they care about. They'll probably lose out internally on this cause the people who heavily invest in brands like gucci or luis or tomi Hilfiger, board memebers and shit, anf like old fashion boomer business men consumer absolutle hate that their posh luxury brands have become associated with skateboarding and rap music.
I mean skateboarding hot but what you gaining from palace youthwize you don't already from tiktok thots, hypebeasts and rappers?

I guess after that house of Gucci movie the brand some raise in popularity, but still its Gucci.
Don't know how the situation in the us is, but here in Europe, especially in Germany, it's still popular among young people. Gucci caps, belts and bags are very common, although in most cases they are just fakes and replicas

The palace ad was great, like most of their collabo ads. Can't hate that.
Has thrasher done some vid for their collab? Was there just that insta vid from Giorgi?
-
not really into streetwear anymore since the 90s, so I never thought about to buy any softgoods from Palace/ never care about high fashion.
But both industry have a huge audience- and if you are a highfashion victim with a weakness for streetwear this colab is the ultimate porn. Some pieces have that street swag eye catching & scream Gucci all over the place. I am a lot in Milan/ Italy - and London /UK - and I am sure this shit will sell very well.
The standard Skaterat is not the target group.
But at least better then the Lacoste / Thrasher colab I didn’t understand the sense behind.
read thrasher since the 80s, had some Lacoste polo longsleaves in the past - and love alligator- so the colab shoud/ coud touch me - but is doing it absolutely not. Just business wise - I understood the Palace/ Gucci thing - and I see a opportunity on a new targetgroup for both parties involved.
For Thrasher / Lacoste I can’t see that.

First of all that’s a funny case study. Second of all that’s not the market that palace attracts.
The fact is LV did the supreme collab a few years ago and then had Virgil in which turned the tide in terms of how it actually got young teenagers buying LV. And when I say LV I don’t mean just little caps or side bags… They started buying full outfits, head to toe, rich trendy kids. It’s how brands starts to get lifelong customers, their mum’s have their bags m/purses and now the kids are interested in the full collection.
Gucci belts and caps, headbands etc will always sell… they don’t care about that stuff, it’s the customers for life who are willing to buy multiple pieces from each collection and now there’s a huge, much younger audience they can push it to. Enter Palace & Supreme. Brands that are ‘alternative’ and ‘authentic’ and are appealing to rich kids who want/can buy their approval. Price wise they’re also a stepping stone to high-end luxury fashion.
Gucci and LV aren’t dirtying their names for quick paydays and to help out skateboard companies. They’re playing the long game, same reason they did Northface, it’s entrance level collection pieces for rich kids. Not saving up months of earnings to buy 1 belt to last a decade cause rappers told them its cool.

Thing is though, do these companies see Palace as a 'skateboard' company or are they just seeing the line of rich kids buying their shit and knowing it sells?
The skateboarding side of it is still legit, the team get paid and get to put out shit. As long as that's still going on I don't really pay attention to the collabs.
I wanna see a Cadburys one next or something.

Palace x Mr. Bean x Heinz Beans

For real, Palace in the eyes of the general public is more of a streetwear brand than a skateboard company. I knew about Palace way before I started skating and a lot people who have no association with skate-culture will recognize the triferg logo. When I visited the Palace store in London about 90% of the customers where rich kids who dragged their father to the store.
