Lame? Cool? I have been seeing more of these lately than usual. They've always seemed like a skate park hero trick to me.
-
It’s only cool when bam does them
-
It’s only cool when Chadd does them

I’d do one if I could, for sure.
So there’s one vote for lame.

No not never, you should too.
Although I've never seen it done frontside. Likely with good reason.

Aka the Screamin’ Eagle
-
I did one down a little gap in Japan back in 2015, and the local kids were not impressed.
If those kids weren’t feeling it, It seems like a hard sell back here in the states.
-
I used to do them a lot when I was young buck in the 90’s. Didn’t know any better. Did one down a gap in front of like 30 people at a local diy spot and got mad props from everyone. Honestly one of the best feelings I recall having on a skateboard. But no, they’re not cool
-
These are equal to benihanas. They beyond disgusting and should never be done by anyone over the age of 10.
-
Supreme tried to legitimize that trick in Play Dead.
-
Easier than a plain ollie tailgrab.
-
It’s all based on the obstacle
-
Only if frontside

I disagree, shuv tailgrabs are less egregious than benihanas. Shuv tailgrabs to me are like varial kickflips - tolerable on some obstacles but generally a regular kickflip or shuv would have looked better
-
I thought I was pretty cool when I learned them as a kid. I even did a few kick flip varial tail grabs. But honestly they mostly look pretty terrible and I consider myself open minded to all manner of illegal trickery.

Skateboarding isn’t about what looks better, but, what you have fun doing.
-
Overhated trick. I honestly really like them with the right application. The only people who hate them are oldheads still stuck on 2000s regulations.

If you are under 13 and can pop shove it the board will naturally make its way into your back hand sooner or later. Pretty sure I thought I made this trick up when I was little due to lack of skate media lol.
When I was a teenager there was a local here named Tyler who'd do the Bam one where you popshove tailgrab then toss around another shove with your hand. He also had a shirt printed with a picture of himself doing a fatty to flatty stinkbug air and all the older guys would clown him and call him Skyler. He was the kind of guy who'd take off his shirt (eventually to show off his fresh tribal tattoo on his chest) anytime a girl walked by the skatepark or stopped to watch. Last time I saw the guy was on Tinder trying to get cucked for his wife. What a world.
-
If you hit the pop shuv tail grab you better send that board around for another shuv and complete the bam
-
I feel like I did these during Shackle Me Not Era but may be wrong on time frame
-

FS shuvit melon grab would look tidy. Surely someone has done a good one.

I find this one like the shove tailgrab as it's easier to shove to grab than just Ollie into the grab
-
I had a mean one in 1990. They were criminal, even then.

Is it crazy that the person I associate this trick with is also named Tyler?! Could it be the same Tyler?! Everything you mentioned sounds like the same guy, maybe it’s just a personality trait of a Tyler? Seriously though, this dude Tyler would huck these things like crazy. A huge pop shuv it with a legit tail grab. He did it down the Carlsbad gap, shit was crazy. He then disappeared into bro obscurity…probably driving a lifted truck and drinking a rockstar

I’ve honestly never do one and I do some corny shit.
-
On the contrary, as far as what was mentioned in this thread, varial flips are pretty tight. Especially when thrown into manual combos.

Not that crazy no. It's a Tyler kind of trick and that's a Tyler kind of lifestyle. Definitely not the same person but they are essentially still the same person spiritually.

Was over a year ago but it was his wife's profile and he was in a lot of the photos and it explained their "situation" etc.

That's definitely some small town shit. Don't they realize there are specific websites for that kind of thing? Posting that on tinder for all the world to see is pretty gnarly

Mark Appleyard does one to fakie in a mini ramp in some old transworld video montage or something like that. He made it look very cool.
Edit: I think apples did varial heel melon and Getz did front shove melon.

Anyone ever notice that the people who do this trick without irony tend to have a certain personality type? Gets in fights, is often re committed to being straight edge, can’t hold a relationship, etc?

Real talk.

Front shove seat belt grab. Or front shove tail grab, on transition, while traveling frontside (like an fs air) might look sick.
-
Wall foot plant ones. Good stuff.
Know what would be sicker fakie big spin tail grab over a spine or hip.
Imp tail grab nah son no thanks. Yuck. Tre is the worst one.
Half cab one footer tail grab on anything is the boss tail grab.

Damn it's an old times classic here.We use to do those all the time.Thing is that the trick is easy so that might be why people find it lame...

Thanks Wavy. Not to detract from JB's abilities, he truly fucking rips. But that trick isn't really that good looking. I had envisioned it caught and boned. Do it again Justin, back to Sa Riera, and boned this time...
-
I remember jani laitiala doing a normal popshove it indy (or some other grab) from macba 4. That one looked pretty okay and rare to me.
-
I can only do pop shuv tail grab with a piping hot grilled cheese in my free hand
