What a creep.

Tibetan Buddhism as a whole is hella sus. Whole lot of institutional pederasty going on there.
And that's without even getting into the current lama being a literal CIA asset as a red scare "China so evil, they took my slaves" puppet

That blew my mind, I never knew that until this tongue thing.

I know it's weird as fuck but I'm inclined to think it's just a weird cultural thing that the west doesn't understand. Also I think it's sus that this is getting so much publicity but western politicians doing similarly weird things just get swept under the rug.

Yeah it's a cultural thing where they molest kids

Dale, just out of curiousity, you seem to have a lotta heat towards Tibetan Buddhism. You know someone that we don’t know (beyond the claim that he’s a CIA plant, bc the Chinese are cooking their own plants like the Panchen Lama)

with twitter you can be an expert on everything in 0 time flat

C’mon Dalai, Too-Rye-Aye indeed.
I think it’s time for him to step down. His PR people on Twitter aren’t even able to explain what happened:
‘A video clip has been circulating that shows a recent meeting when a young boy asked His Holiness the Dalai Lama if he could give him a hug. His Holiness wishes to apologize to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words
may have caused. His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and before cameras. He regrets the incident.’
What the hell are they talking about?
-
I don't even think there are porno flicks with titles like, "Suck my tongue."
Bizarre turn of events, but it is 2023 so I guess at this point anything can happen from here on out.
-
My friend was positing that it’s no accident that this came out just as China was scoring points with France, etc.

this is so funny.

Some helpful reading (with sources) about the fucked history of the lamas and Tibetan Buddhism.
The current lama's cultural relevance is a direct result of the US propping him up as a sainted holy man to show how horrible and nasty China was for taking this poor man's slaves. See also: the moonies and falun gong

I think tibet is in india not china.
Also tibet is it's own country. It's not in India or China. The Chinese overthrew the feudal system in the 50's, an overthrow that was overwhelmingly popular with the serfs who had been treated like shit by the lamas for hundreds of years

Good guy Mao.
I guess if you’re viewing this all from the perspective of Marxist historian Parenti, then someone like Mao comes off well?

Hold on real quick as i put on my Tom Friedman hat
China is a land of contrasts...
Jk, Mao, like any world leader, is neither Jesus Christ or Satan. I think mature students of history can look at the totality of his accomplishments and find both good and bad things that he has done. I'd say giving the lamas the boot is a good thing

My understanding of Mao (like many other freedom fighters turned rulers of the mid-1900s) started strong, but ineptitude and paranoia brought needless persecutions and nearly crumbled the very country he had elevated.
I was just saying when you get your history from a Marxist historian, yeah things might be tilted in the Mao good, religious guys bad viewpoint.
But I also don’t really want to get into a second weird debate where everything US does is wrong is amplified and everything China has done is downplayed (tik tok thread). I have no strong feelings towards either country and I don’t want to let my feelings of moderation be equivocated as pro-American jingoism.

That's a fair criticism although I will point out that Parenti's critique is strongly sourced. Often by witnesses in the early 20th century who were serfs who suffered these abuses, and had no education, let alone any conception of Marxism

China just ended the Saudi war on Yemen with some phone calls. Alliances are shifting at this exact moment and it’s not in favor of the US.

It wasn't a weird debate, you just got pushback on several points, which is fine.

It was weird because I wasn’t standing behind those points, I was just raising issues for discussion and then was being accused of being brainwashed into being anti-China by American News propaganda without addressing anything I was bringing up (in particular what blessed society you all came from that provided you with biased free information).
