The truck brand poll was interesting. Let’s see what size wheels everyone is into. Please stick to what’s on your main setup. I stuck with just “what size wheel “ to keep it simple but feel free to post what shape you ride if you want. Cheers!
-
I’m absolutely stoked Spitfire is making 48mm F4s again. I was riding 50s-51s the last couple of years and just skating them extra long haha.
-
I come quite often back to my 54 f4 Classics, 101.
Some mm worn down so they fit like broken in shoes.
And by the way, i recognize that 99 is too soft for my taste...
-
54-56mm
54mm SML Mike Arnold big wave model is what I'm currently riding.
I like a wheel with a larger contact patch but still experimenting to find what's right for me. F4 56 full conical spits might have been too big for me in both ways.
99 duro at most cause I'm not riding on smooth ground regularly.

54mm will be always preferred, 53mm as a plan B
-
54 for literally 20+ years but now I have two setups: one 52 and one 56
-
.
I used to ride 56 Classics or Classic Full shaped Spitfire Formula Four wheels and enjoy them most when worn down to 52 - 54 or so mm.
Mostly now it is 54 mm Conical Full, also worn down to around 52 - 53 mm that suits me best as I am not skating the bigger stuff anymore and I just like an all rounder, a little on the wider side, machined off edges to round them down a bit as well.
-
52mm
-
After a couple years of exploring various Spitfire shapes, I’ve fell back in love with good old F4 classics. I have 52’s on my current setup but could rock anything from 51-55mm classics depending on what trucks I have. 53’s might be the sweet spot.
-
52 or 53. I'll go with 54 if I'm feeling thrifty. I pretty much only skate F4 Classics so 54 is about my limit before the width begins to bug me.
Crazy to think I used to skate 56s on Venture 5.0 with risers back in the day.
-

I really like Big Heads 52s but I skate better on 52 tablets.
-
53mm F4 Classics. If Cromer can do it you can too.
-
53mm is the perfect do-all size for me, transition to street. They are called “Classics” for reason, and I always love them. Radial Slims would be nice, if DLX would get off their ass and make them again.
-
52 or 53 for me. Bigger definitely has its benefits but the wheelbite isn’t something I’m willing to deal with for those benefits. On top of that I’ve found I prefer lower setups. There was a time I was riding Indy standards with 56mm wheels but I’m currently riding forged thunders with 52s and I’m finding that’s overall a lot better for me.
-
Bounce between 52-54. Been on 52's the past couple years. Like the weight and easier to go from nose to truck. But I've really been wanting to size up to 56 for some reason.
-
I'm surprised to see 53mm get nearly as many votes as 52 / 54mm, you always see 53mm wheels sitting on shelves when online retails are always sold out of 52 / 54mm.
Love 53mm, 54s feel too tall especially on steep decks and 52s feel too small too quickly, amazing how much 1mm makes that much of a difference.
-
I buy them 52 (max 54) and love them when 50. The current main set up is in my sweet spot zone.
-
i usually get new trucks and wheels at the same time. 53s and then ride them till the trucks are absolutely done (wheels are 47 at the moment, i'm guessing they have about a month left in them).
-
I'm a 54mm man. I'm curious on what kind of terrain y'all ride those tiny ass wheels with sub-52mm diameters and/or small contact patches. I could never make those work on anything but perfect ground.
-
My all time favorite wheels I’ve skated are the 58 f4 og classics. Can’t find em anymore so I’ve been skating the 60mm classics. I got some 58 conical fulls so we’ll see if those scratch the itch of the og
-
Never anything below 54's (new), my favorite probably being 56's but those can be difficult for me to come by whereas 54mm is much more common so I usually get that.
-
I put 56 since 56mm f4 99a classics are my usual wheel.
But i've been toying with 53/54mm classics/radials lately too.
-
Spitty 53mm F4 Classics or Conical Full for me... currently skating classics
-
i normally go between 52 and 54..

Rotating different wheels is the easiest way to adjust your set up for different purposes IMO. I can ride the same board and trucks, with 60mm or 50mm for a completely different feel, terrain and purpose.

been loving my 58 radial full 97du, i want the kader 59s

Same, I’ve been riding my current set for about a year and they’re down to 55mm now. They’re coning and I know I don’t have much time left on them.
I got a set of 56mm regular conicals to try out next. Conical fulls seem a little too wide for me
-
I don't think I could ever buy something smaller than a 52 unless it was crazy cheap.
52/53 on boards 8.5 and smaller and 55/56 on bigger
-
i had 55mm OG classics, but theyre 50mm last time i measured them. actually like em like this.
i'll consider buying some Lil Smokies if i need new wheels next time.

i refuse to believe you notice that miniscule hight difrence. half a milimeter is like fingernail.
but whatever works for you in the end. half of skateboarding is mental.

lol where do you get those? i hardly ever even find stuff under 52mm in Canada.
-
52 f4s. Everytime I skate 54mm everything feels strange.
-
54-56mm range so I can carry some speed into a trick after pushing at an obstacle.
I’m in SF, so I usually take a wider contact patch (like a Coni Full) for more wheel meat to wear down whilst sliding my way down these hills.
Pretty much gotta be F4s for me (loyal to the soil, feel me?)
99du is my fave, but I’ve got a set of 97s on one set up that feel like the best compromise between soft & slippery I’ve tried yet.
-
54 mm is my usual and I’ve never bought wheels smaller that that. I do skate them until they’re around 50 mm though. I just changed from 99a F4 classics that I used indoors in the winter season to 97a F4 conical fulls and holy shit what a difference it makes in crusty ass Finland. Fuck classics unless you’ve got some smooth ass ground around most of the time.
I’ve gone up to 56, 58 and 60 before and actually liked it more but now my legs have been weak so 54s are feeling better and likely will until I regain my strength.
-
54mm 101a OJ Elites are my main wheel.
I'm hooked on the hardness and the shape, 54mm is nice since I don't have to run risers to make em fit. Definitely unforgiving in any crust tho.
56mm OJ Plain Janes 87a on the crust cruiser which are just delightful in most situations. Smooth ride, nimble enough to get cutty, and big enough to hold speed.

Had the pink snot 55s before this. I always end up going back to minilogo after i finish whatever other wheels i wanna tryout, and for $20 you can't beat them. just don't buy the black ones for whatever reason they dont feel as hard regardless of duro

I like doing a lot of powerslides and when i skate transition i tend to do a good amount of revert tricks and I like the slide on them it's pretty similar to bones. I like the shape too, it's like a conical. I haven't flat spotted them but they do tend to start coning(my tucks are on the looser side), like any other wheels, usually just flip them around and keep em rocking. And honestly they're half the price of other wheels and they don't have a big ass logo on them.
-
I ride all sorts of wheel sizes between my 12+ boards in my quiver but the majority of them have sub 50s and that's what i'm kind of most used to so that's what i chose, I do enjoy a nice midrange wheel though from time to time
-
Been rocking 53's since 2010ish. Just seemed like the right size to not feel too fat and also have enough wheel to last a while. Anything over 54 just feels wheel bite prone.
-
Love a well worn in bearing cover wheel. Not a purposely scaled down mini wheel but like a 50mm wheel worn down to 40mm 🤤
-
I used to skate 56mm all the time, then one day they just seemed to big. So 54mm now and I ride them until they're like 50mm. F4 conical full.
-
I’m surprised 53 is so high. I switched to 52 because I could never find 53s and 54s just felt weird. I assumed they just weren’t as popular as some weird inbetween size.
I think 53s Are the best when they’re worn down to a 52.

I'm also a top poster on the Gear Madness thread FYI

56 is my sweet spot. My trucks are loose to where ill get wheel bite with any wheels, so i wanna ride something i can skate anywhere. 54 skates much lighter but isnt as fun.
-
For the past couple years i was obsessed with trying to find one set up that i could use for everything, 53mm Radials were my wheel of choice.
These days im trying to get my flatground game back up to speed, but at the same time trying to skate bigger transition. So im back on 2 set ups, 52mm classics and 54mm radials. Kind of sucks, but whatever

So far the only surprising data (to me anyway) is the proliferation of the 52mm. Great tech wheel, nice and light. I thought for some reason everything was trending upwards. At least in my area. Lots of 55 and 56 where I’m at. Funny how the 57 is the bastard size.

Thinking back 57 mm used to be pretty common in the older Spitfire wheels, with so many options just from the one brand, but now I can only think of the Bigheads and Radial Oski off the top of my head, both of which are rather limited in supply.
A few others when I went looking though - Skate like a girl Classics, Lock ins, then some OJs / Slimeballs, Rictas, but so few all up compared to almost every other size.
The funny thing is more than a few people I know have issue with odd number sized wheels, so they will ride 52, 54, 56, 58 or 60 only, never 51, 53, 55, 57, 59 etc. Just another one of those "interesting" facts that make no sense to some people, but make absolute sense to others.

52s have been holding strong as a go-to for at least number of years now. Every company makes a 52mm in nearly each formula/shape they make. Almost everyone has ridden 52s before and people seem to either stick with it, or size up if they feel small or slow
i don't think i've ever seen any 57s
-
F4 99a 54 Classic Full one of my favourite wheels so far
-
Not surprising to some, I still rock 50mm's and have for like 20+ years now.
-
55 or 54 on my regular miniramp set-up with a set of 58s or 60s to skate big tranny. Typically Bones SPF P6 shape but I've found Cherries recently and I'm digging them a lot.
-
If I'm on a mission to learn basic slappys would bigger or smaller wheels be optimal to make it easier? I got some 50mm on my regular board but some closer to 60mm on my cruiser which I was planning to use later tonight
-
I lied but it will be true in some hours. I am addicted to 58mm wheels.
It's ok I can admit it today. I'm just moonlighting with my old 55s.
Also 99a og classics are way way louder than 101a classics.
I need the sound on for manhole slides. I feel like I'm doing it wrongly when I'm backt/blunt power sliding the bald holes.
I'm going to do some manholes rn now that I just scored an awesome dinner.
Uggggh

Rotating different wheels is the easiest way to adjust your set up for different purposes IMO. I can ride the same board and trucks, with 60mm or 50mm for a completely different feel, terrain and purpose.
This quote and this thread are making me think that my insistence on an “all purpose” setup is probably not doing me any favors. If I look back, I was better at street with a sub-54mm wheel and I was probably skating big transition best with 58s. My current wheels are probably around 54 (originally 55.5). I shouldn’t be surprised when I can’t get speed on rough tranny or my pop is a bit sluggish.

I'm all about having multi set ups. I just find it hard to get two set of trucks feeling equally good. I'll just end up going for the bloard with the best ride feeling.

in the midwest, I do 'seasonal' wheel rotations. Fall/Winter = 54+ in conical or other wide shapes because I'm not trying to flip my board in negative degree weather, then Spring/Summer = 52-54 in classic/smaller contact patch because I have delusions that this is the summer i'm gonna learn some new flip trick and in an attempt to get the board to feel lighter despite the humidity making the deck feel dead/waterlogged.
wheels are the best/easiest 'madness' to manage for these reasons
-
i too am surprised about 52s…it’s what i prefer, it’s the biggest of the small wheels, meaning i can skate them on venture lo’s or 147s. i don’t hate the way my board feels with 52s. big wheels make me so bummed/sometimes angry. the rolling over shit is nice, but i despise the added weight, and the way the board feels/reacts.
i’d assume a wheel 54ish would be good for transition, i wouldn’t know, i’m scared of not flat. doesn’t gt ride 52s? i don’t think raven rides huge wheels…
i always thought the huge wheel was a street thing, and i’ll admit to having 60mm classics more than once, most memorably for me, on an early chocolate gino with most likely tight tight tight 129s. i felt like i could ollie over anything.
i’ll always one of my skate buddies being like ‘what are those 52s!?’ with just the perfect amount of scorn/derision. and he rips everything so i had to laugh.
i mean if i’m being totally honest with myself, peak skating came on some really small wheels, pizza cutters, maybe started as 50s , skinny as possible. but i used to carry the board to the spot. and if you do that, than you need maneuvers, and i don’t have those.
-
52 mostly but Ive been known to fuck around with a 54. Might actually set up some 54mm sml wheels next.
-
My tre flips are trash but small wheels help . I also like to feel closer to the ledge or coping. Spitfire formula four classic for life
-
53 or 54 spit f4 classic.
-

I think bigger is better. Easier to roll on the curb and better lock in. With smaller wheels you might slip over more easily. Wheel shape also makes a big difference. Conicals lock in better but will take more force to get in. Tablets even more so. Classics go nicely on the curb but it’s easier to slip over. Whatever you do, don’t go slapping with soft wheels. It’s doable but it just not a good time IMO.
-
my all time favorite wheel is the 58mm 99a f4 classic, but they have been extremely hard to find lately, so i'm on 56mm radials rn. i don't go under 56mm because i can't afford it, i skate my wheels until they're like 48s, with 58s it takes me about a year to get to that point. i prefer the classics because they look alright when they wear down since they're round. i used to skate conical fulls in 54 for a few years but they look ugly as fuck when small, i rode like 5 sets of them until they were about 45mm, looked like shit. the classics still look ok at that point.
-
These truck and wheel polls should make it possible to have at least 2 votes. Who on slap is sane enough to have only one setup?
53 mm on my "main" street setup. But 57 mm on my transition board that just turned into my main because I love it so much and skate miniramp all week
-

I'm the other way around, I prefer odd numbers over even numbers in wheel size. 55mm has been my drug of choice, now thinking about switching down to 53mm as I'm skating more flatground/curbs these days.

There has to be someone on here who only skates half mm wheels. Im certain

50-51 mm works for me and my no riser pad usin, tight truck ridin fat ass.

50mm 103a Bones STF V4 (slim)

Spitfire F4 Conical 52mm. I tried 54 conical full, but they felt sluggish and heavy to me. The 52 conical have a nice riding surface while still remaining light.
