i knew quite a lot of folks who were pretty dedicated to madness (it didn't really do anything for me) - i'm sure they will be similarly dedicated to opera if it's basically the same thing

I kinda agree with the original point. Fav brand is pass port but hate the name. Toy and alien are abstract enough to be best names of all time. Opera is somewhere in the middle prob a better name than madness (altho a name like madness goes well with energy drink sponsors, xgames etc)

flip, skatemafia, popwar, pop.co, speed demons and grindking are the only ones i can think of that actually have something to do with skating - and i think most people would agree those are some of the worst names we've seen.

The kind of brand a graphic design major at art school would come up with for a sophomore year presentation on “streetwear” even tho they a lame rich exchange student who is super racist and they only came up with shirts with Asian/Arabic lettering on the sleeves.

whoa whoa, there could hardly be a more literal name for a skateboard purveyor than toy machine. And given a little poetic license, Alien Workshop does/did a pretty good job of invoking subcultural growth and experimentation.
Best and most appropriate name however goes to supernaut, distinguished - and oft highest - travellers that we are.

Why’d you choose the name “Opera” for your new brand?
I’ve always liked the idea of what an opera represents. I love the fact that the literal definition of it is “a performance of one”. To me, that’s skateboarding in a nutshell. It’s just you, but you can have just as much fun by yourself or with a group. I think that all the stuff that comes from the idea of operas and the stage and the theatrics and storytelling, I was always moved by that, and the masquerade and the mischievous nature of what operas are about.
I mean that is somewhat a better meaning then most skate brands out there.

better name and logo than Madness so it's good in my book. Normally I agree with the whole "too many new skate companies watering down skating" opinion that a lot of people have but I don't feel that way about this or Jacuzzi because they're basically replacements for companies that might as well be dead so it's basically like they aren't new at all. I for one welcome them, Bravo Sports can go fuck their own mothers.

I'm quoting this image because it's a tighter crop than the other - i don't hate this brand or anything but why would you write "skateboards" on a skateboard, especially so nastily. I know real do it aswell, but it's wack too. Just OPERA would be a big improvement. Too bad Atlantic Drift used Madame Butterfly the other month or whenever that was - probably the most usable track featuring opera.
I actually like the name. They should put tuning forks in the boards so when you hit it in a certain spot there is a resonance.

I think Bravo Sports bought only the distribution- DSM as the production is still independent. If Steve Douglas is on board for the new distribution- it sounds like that.
Teaming up with Louie & Bod is a proper set up for new business - good luck and much success to Weiss-man.

there's this guy who i call opera man that walks around singing opera in my neighborhood every once in a while and i always love hearing him when i have the windows open on a summer evening. he's quite good and i always have the urge to stop him and ask him about his life, but i'd hate to interrupt him at the same time.
anyway, hopefully opera skateboards turns opera guy pro.

I never skated madness. But I did enjoy the joy division last flyer rip off graphic. And they had a lot of wide boards with short wheelbases. Didn’t hate the renaissance art etc either. Kinda lazy but I preferred it over some of the low effort graphics put out now.
Does anyone know if jacuzzi or opera will do R7 still ?

I’m with the holy ghost of lennie Kirk, the fact they made this distro less than a year after getting fucked over by corporate is impressive and should be appreciated. The shapes look good to me and the graphics are about the same as madness. Bill weiss seems like a cool guy man idk. Better than Santa Cruz

I can't argue much, but I guess I'm a sucker as I am kind of intrigued by their shapes. Seems like a lot of stuff with longer wheelbases but not super wide boards. Or at least that's what caught my eye.

I fuck with their graphics. The edit they put out this year was good. The other Aussie guy on the team rips, and I always like seeing Clay Kreiner. Having Kieran on the team is a good addition. I can't speak to the shapes.

Other than something like AH, what board co would sponsor a skater like Kieran? He was already on SC, so i don't think creature would put him on, or if that would even work.
Think he's getting a little old for going the Toy Machine/Olympics play, but maybe. They could use a solid contender in the men's park

He’s a perfect fit on Opera, and I don’t mean that as an insult or compliment. Really good well rounded skater, just lacks the cool factor or marketability to be on a more popular brand.
I don’t get him on Asics at all though. They’re mostly a bunch of eclectic/artsy/creative type skaters, then it’s like “oi mate ya reckon I should smith a 20 or do a bowl transfa for me next clip”.
