When he first broke out I thought he was primed to be an eventual soty winner.
-
He was super dope indeed.
Not sure if it was ego, mental health, drugs or a combination of that took him down, but it’s a damn shame whatever it was.
He is def an all time style guy for the books.
Also, very happy he introduced me to Cymande.

Seemed like he had the perfect fit on real but plan b came knocking. Plan B curse.

Yeah and then Real came out with that ad that said something like “I guess we do press releases now when team riders quit, back in my day we would’ve blah blah blah”. I’m paraphrasing. The ad was lame and it was pretty much the last I heard from Darrell at that time, Plan B did basically nothing for him

Definitely wish he was still skating. Or if he is still skating I wish he was still putting out footy.

Just the best …confession skated so many pairs of Rowley classics because he made them look so kewl
-
Went to a Volcom demo once and he just sat on the couch the whole time (I think it was like zumies couch tour or something, they had a couch outside in like 100 degree weather). I wished he would have skated so bad. It was still rad seeing rowley and caswell though.
I love his style though. His roll forever part was on constant repeat for me. That clipper cover is insane.

My brain is telling me switch back 180's were his move. Maybe my brain is playing tricks on me? Maybe he had both of them down really good. I was really young back then, but I only remember him for his sw back 180s.
-
spider man style
-
Hell he had back 3s and sw back 3s in his this is my element part
-
i feel like most people remember /celebrate his REAL era...but his Element era was also v v dope.
-
An all time switch flip at 1:37
https://youtu.be/iEgNQFQsvuk
Between him and atchley those crazy element high tops nearly took off.
First photo was the back noseblunt clipper thrasher cover
Got out of a contract with whatever truck company by saying tony hawk personally asked him to ride for theeve
Dude rules
-
I don't think I can pay the man a higher compliment when it comes to style in that he's the only person who made a Dolphin flip actually look like a good/decent trick.
-
nollie bs noseblunt and ollie over to fs blunt (I guess?) Clipper, first to do nollie heel back lip down a sizable rail, first do sw bs bigspins down big sets, biggest nollies and sw bs 180s,... he wasn't around long but he left the skate world a lot to chew on.
-
unique style, but in someways actually reminds me of jerry. they both have a thing with their knees/shoulders that sometimes makes their reg/nollie look switch/fakie.
so much mad shit has happened on clipper, but i feel his two bangers kind of take it.
below wasn't mentioned yet, so posting in case anyone missed it:

That trio part is one of my favorites of all time. Whole video goes actually.
Used to see Darrell around a lot. Felt like he was kinda drugs fried (not confirmed just vibes) but he moved back in with his parents and it seemed like he was doing good again! Couldn’t really do too many tricks on the board though, couple front shoves on flat.
-
I will get a lot of hate but to me Darrell Stanton always seemed overrated. His style and trick selection are kinda weird.
Gailea Momolu had more hard tricks on rails and better style.
-
not sure how you see cannonballs and dolphin flips as weird.....

If you're in his zone ask around and get us an update homie. hope he's doing well!

Was skating SouthSide once and this was right before he went full am on Real and Vans, I don't think he missed a single trick

Love Darrell’s skating, but it almost feels like he didn’t have many flip tricks in his natural stance. It seems like a lot of his flip tricks down stairs were switch.
Not that there’s anything not gnarly about that, but I kind of agree a little about his trick selection. Also, he didn’t film many lines. Most of his clips are single tricks.

True. in hindsight they chose getting payed well for a while over career longevity.

lowkey the only one who really made it from that initial plan b super team was P Rod. i really wonder what happend with that, theres gotta be a juicy story behind it. like how could u have PJ, Wenning, Darell, Sherm, Prod + others and fuck that upp.

When you have that many alpha type superstar skaters on one board brand, it's not gonna work. I have a theory that these personality types do best when they are the top dog or one of two top guys on a team and can flex in a video. When you have that many stars on one brand, none of them will feel like they are treated correctly and their output will show that lack of motivation.
-
Darrell is a trip. He really was that guy and that styley. I remember reading that he was on his business shit and possibly took it too far with demands and ego.
I think he had trouble adjusting from the era of fat paychecks and full lengths to the influencer era. Undeniably one of those guys that look great on the board.
-

other than the element shoes, yes
-
In 2021 Darrell Stanton ordered a pair of Nyjah 2s from the online store of our shop, which is weird because we're in the middle of Canada. I know it was him because I checked his instagram and it was shipping to the same city he was living in and his provided e-mail address matched the contact email on his website.
I sent him a shop shirt with them hoping to see it pop up on his instagram but to be honest probably only checked a few times after if he wore it or not.
-
I also heard somewhere that Mic E Reyes was super pissed when Stanton left to Plan B. It would have been so dope though to see Darrell and Ishod skate on Real together.
-
Always loved his skating especially the Free Your Mind Part, this thread made me think about the time Jenkem tried to interview him https://www.jenkemmag.com/home/2013/06/27/whats-the-deal-with-darrell-stanton/
-
Always dug his style/parts.
His Bunt interview was pretty bizarre, no?
