That was great, such good footage throughout. Never realized he did a 20 before anyone else.

Great footage. Can't imagine what a culture shock going to Tokyo must've been then. I first went in 2012 and it was a mindfuck then. Phelps isn't to my taste but I've always loved Diego.

Great watch. Looks like Diego hasn't aged in 20 years. I'm jealous.

The mutual respect between Diego and the transition dudes (Hewitt and Bailey) was rad.

Diego bent his axle and almost fell off just like Joslin did on the El Toro tre flip. Crazy similar.

It's sick to find out the crazy roll away was from a bent axle. I've watched Good and Evil a couple hundred times probably, it's always cool to find out new lore

@Labucha

I assumed it was the stair set he ollied in Good and Evil, but watching Thrasher unearth this old footage is even better.

Seeing Phelps skate street is a treat.

havent watched but wasn’t this after the nuge did el toro? Totally fucked either way. The butcher is a criminally underrated hucker and also had a deep bag of tricks

So cool how they just barged the city during the middle of the day when considering japan is so strict with that stuff.

Funny to think the ender was filmed years ahead, considering Diego was on Think (I think) during the Japan trip and Good and Evil came out in 2004.

This was a great watch. I love this kind of story telling. I am also surprised this is so old considering the time it was used for an ender. So beast!

I might be totally wrong here but I vaguely remember the clip of this ollie being included in Thrasher's Jaded video before it was also used in Good and Evil.

I don't think it was too unusual to hold onto footage for that long in the VHS days. His part really needed it to end the video/ have a reason to have Diego as last part following Billy marks very strong part. And I'm guessing they wanted to give Diego last part as a bit of thanks for riding for toy machine when it was about to die which also kinda fucked him over for a bit (quitting think also got him kicked off Indy and spitfire and soured things with him and thrasher for a bit)

ed said that they were both neck and neck for last part & that butcher got it for ollieing that quadruple set in the intro that at the time was supposed to be his ender but it ended up only being in the intro and the 20 being the ender instead. i can’t remember where i saw that, i think it was probably in one of the 50 bonus features on the video, man i need that dvd again now that i think about it.

As someone who has explored every bonus feature in the DVD, please do no watch the Austin Stephens ankle break, it haunts me till today.

I do miss DVD extras, Video Days on What If takes the cake.

Can't remember if it's a bonus but Austin also has that fucked back slam on a little skatepark flatbar in suffer the joy.

As far as the quad set Ollie it was his ender in an Osiris video just to complicate the timeline further

Diego was definitely on Think at this time, as it had to be some time in 2000 or 2001 since the Bailey cover from the same trip was December '01. Someone is correct in noting this was in the extras of I want to say Playing in Traffic, which as a 13 year old obsessed with "big shit" made a big impression on me and made me a lifelong Diego fan. But without knowing the exact date, it's possible Nuge did the El Toro ollie before this as that had to be 2000, as the footage came out in Amateur/411. Regardless, Diego really shook up skating at the time, nobody was really going that big at the time.

Hewitt and Bailey are just incredible to watch from this period, frontside floater over the channel is just seared into my brain.

I don't think it's ever been brought up but Diego and Jeremy had some kinda wierd rivalry skating a bunch of the same spots, often with Jeremy getting the better trick

Stacy Lowrey ollied it too.

While trying to find the Santa Cruz ad I stumbled upon several things I was unaware of:

1. Stacey Lowrey is now a shoe designer
2. Duffs still possibly makes shoes and Cooper Wilt has a pro-model shoe with them

no not that quadruple set, it’s one in brea i think. i thought it was in the intro or one of the trailers but now i can’t seem to find it, it has a black rail both sides & is narrow. there’s another rail there that harmony skated too.

i also noticed jeremy wray constantly showing diego up when i was younger & was always confused by it. i noticed the same thing happening between prod/antwuan back in the day & then antwuan brought it up on the nine club & i couldn’t believe it was real. also austin’s friend’s terrible ankle break is at 41:20
http://youtu.be/WXFo2o81zaw

edit : found it. it’s at 15:25 not sure why it was in suffer the joy when it was filmed for good & evil but who knows.

He had heavy clips in every video he was in. Could've been way bigger.

RIP

He was getting bigger but a fight with Diego Bucheri put him on the black list of skateboarding and all of tha beacuse Diego waas jealous of Robert

Source? Super lame it true.
Anyone have details on how Robertito passed?
[close]
Thats true. In Hurley tours, Robert was doing way gnarly tricks in Diego's spots, and Diego didn't like that.

Still a weird story considering how nice is Diego; but I’ll take it   ;D
