There seemed to be loads of fall out when private equity bought into Girl/Chocolate.
What’s the status now? Altamont who bought them don’t list them any more.

For sure, I had a girl board last year quite randomly, it was as good a board as I could hope for - I know a lot more people riding girl and chocolate skateboards these days than any other time in the last 10ish years and no one is complaining

It's difficult to say, I know that Crailtap and HUF share a lot of similar suppliers and Lakai is licensed/operated through HUF. However, they are not owned by TSI Holding.

They seem more popular than they were 8-10 years ago when everyone left, but they’ll never get to the heights of 15-20 years ago. Ironically enough this era has produced some of their highest quality product, just their content aren’t the events it used to be.

Local shops sell their decks, which everyone agrees are pretty good now, they have a successful new line of trucks, they just had a tour video with Thrasher, the shoe company has an entire full length dropping this week. What are you basing this opinion on? The fact that they're not the team they were when you were a kid?

Kind of interesting to see them leaning into the Pacific Northwest kids, Cory first and now Simon and Griffin. I'd be fine with seeing more of that. Working out well up here, Girl and Chocolate move all sorts of boards in this neck of the woods.

The feel the Girl/Chocolate vibe is iconic. I understand this is common in 37 y/o skateboarders like me that have nostalgic feelings. But I’ll support them until the vibe changes to something I don’t like. Losing most of the original/semi-original riders to age kind of sucks and definitely changes things, which is what happens naturally when the identity of the brand are the riders as opposed to the aesthetic of the brand itself. However I feel the aesthetic and art direction is strong enough to survive with a new crop of riders.
This is why sci-fi fantasy is doing it right - they solidified the identity of the brand before adding riders.
Talking about branding for that long made me cringe myself out, sorry about that

It's been 10+ years since I have rode a girl/chocolate, and what others have already said, I had several break while still close to new. That more then anything keeps me from wanting to try them again, never had that kind of experience with DLX wood at any time.

Basing it on a local shop that has continued ordering there product like Yeah Right has just come out. They have an entire backroom dedicated to Girl and Chocolate boards that haven't sold like stacked floor to ceiling
I'm probably quite biased after seeing this crailtap graveyard but the fourstar collab no one asked for and the Lakai site is overflowing with product on sale tells me they are not making the greatest decisions.
Even if they made the greatest truck in the world the Royal trucks brand has been dragged through the mud so I don't see them taking up much more market space than they already had
Also nothing to do with nostalgia since the Girl/Chocolate teams I grew up on killed the company. They can't be blamed for Mike Mo's injury, CK1 DUI, Raven quitting but no nostalgia for McCrank or that dickhead Koston etc.

I bought my first chocolate deck in probably close to a decade earlier this year. At first I hated it and almost switched back to the dlx shape I’ve been riding for the last 3 or 4 years. But now I’m on my second one and I must say I kinda love it.

I've been skating Girl/Chocolate boards exclusively the past year or so after bouncing between brands. I saw they brought back the OG concave and grabbed one to try.
Super happy with them, mellow concave & good snappy wood.
a Chocolate video w/ Girl section would be vibes for end of summer/fall...

i mean i know that it’s hard to really say that the losses matter much anymore with how much each one skates at this point but.. losing ba, guy, koston, olson, gino, chico, elijah.. kicking off marc/biebel & having mike mo/cory both have their tragedies… it’s honestly more telling of how legendary they are that they were able to recover from that and keep their brand. that’s literally 11 guys within a few short years & far from forgettable ones at that, over half of those guys had been on for a decade plus if not since the very beginning & mike mo/cory/elijah were honestly the young and hungry stars of the company. most companies don’t make it through stuff like that.

Skatecompanies need to stop doing collabs.
When supreme does it most of the time (not always) the company they are collabing with brings something to the table when it comes to producing products wether it's a certain textile ceramic or plastic they produce and are specialized in.
That's the main point why collabs work.
I doy know how fkig stupid you have to be to not get this but a huf × girl doesn't bring shit to any table since huf is just a similar printing on blanks company. It's not what anyone wants or cares about . If printing on huf t-shirts makes your product better I will never buy a girl tshirt

They have a really sick team at the moment, some REALLY talented guys, beyond the YouTube personalities.
If Powell could put in a fraction of the effort it did in the 80’s of promoting their riders instead of h just relying on hammering the nostalgia button and word-of-mouth for their admittedly really quality gear, they could probably reinvent themselves and make themselves relevant again.
