I'm 49 now and was on the periphery of the NYC version of this scene for years (2011-2019ish). I was on the young side; most were already in their mid 50s.
I imagine it's pretty much the same anywhere with a decent bowl. Most were all great guys but the "only skating bowls" thing was just too much for me.

There was a little Sunday morning bowl Barney scene at my local when I really started skating again, but I haven’t seen them or heard their industrial boombox blasting face2face in a few years.

The silence of some pals in this thread speaks volumes (insert Homer Simpson backing into the hedges) confirming some of my suspicions.
I only have the picture and the first line of the article to go on though, that WSJ paywall might as well be Fort Knox to me.

i know various people in this crew, some of them kill it. definitely don't see anyone from slap being in that crew though. slap is more like loners in parking lots skating curbs

Yeah I’d say literally every SLAP pal who hasn’t responded to this is part of this crew. Literally every single one of them.
